Trade a 2nd For Jimmy Now; This is Not a Long Term Commitment

If Bill believed that, the #15 would be long gone.

Unless the Patriots have a game next week, or the 49ers have another trade of JG imminent, what is the pressing need to make the trade right now? Why would Belichick give up #15 if there's a good chance the price goes down between now and the draft (or shortly after)? The fact that he hasn't traded a first rounder before it's necessary says nothing about his evaluation of JG.

Why isnt SF a playoff team?

Good WRs, HOF TE, Decent RBs.
I suppose we could try to be a playoff team by spending $65M in free agency and having the worst starting QB in the NFL.

BECAUSE IF I SAY IT IN CAPS THAT MEANS IT MUST BE TRUE! ESPECIALLY WITH AS MANY EXCLAMATION POINTS AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!

.
I guess it is too much for you remember when you put paragraph titles in all caps for easy reading.
===========
In any case, do you disagree or just making noise. Do you believe that we don't need to add a 2021 quarterback?

waiting could be good for the patriots or bad.

You presume that there are no other bidders, and that the

Well of course it could, but I'm not presuming anything. YOU are. You're presuming that having not already shipped off their best draft asset means they don't believe in Jimmy Garropolo. I'm saying it means nothing until the Patriots are playing games without Jimmy or he's been traded somewhere else.

Well if traded up before SF did we wouldn’t be in this predicament so sitting on his hands with the worse qb room in the league might leave him empty handed when someone else moves.
Chicago, Carolina, Denver, Philly, Washington, Detroit, New Orleans may all be calling about Jimmy and they won’t ask the patriots if it’s to early and the price might come down.

So Miami would have happily traded with us and given us potentially our next QB of the future? You and I disagree that they should just draft a QB no matter what, so let's just drop this, eh? If they like one of the kids, that makes sense. If they don't, you don't spend THREE first round picks on a blind dart throw.

Jimmy the Glass has had 1 successful season out of 7. You don’t trade a 2nd rd pick and pay a guy with that kind of history. If we can get him on a low risk fair deal, go for it. A 2nd and that kind of money though? No thanks.
NEP second round picks are a total crapshoot. We’re as likely to land a Tavon Wilson as we are a legitimate NFL player. The pick doesn’t matter it’s the money and we have room.

If Miami gets 3 1s they would love to get them from us and weaken us.

I never said draft a QBs no matter.
I said we need to get the QB so we need to do what it takes to get him.
Had we done what SF did we would have gotten one of Lawrence, Fields or Wilson. It may be decades before we have a chance to draft a prospect of that caliber.
Look at our last 8 years of drafts which first rounders would you have cried over losing to have the shot at a franchise qb?

QB is the most important position on the field. We have the worst QB room in the NFL. A team that has a QB we are begging to trade for just spent 3 1s to move up to where I wanted us to.

Where in the world do you expect us to get a good qb so we can be competitive?

Tavon Wilson is a legitimate nfl player. He’s had a 9 year nfl career and is still going and has played in 125 games, starting 45 of them.
He also has a SB ring.

If every QB was declared a free agent and they did a draft for them newton probably wouldn’t be in top 50 picks.

It’ll take more than a 2nd to get him. He’s not worth more than a 2nd. Basically the Pats are screwed unless Jimmy shoots his way out of town.

I get where you are going with the push for urgency, and you are starting to win me over.

I don't think the FA spending should be tied to it, though. The Pats aren't spending any more on players this year than they normally do. They just had a hole in the player compensation line item in the budget which they filled quickly, and that pacing is being conflated with big spending.

I don't think so. But we'll see.

You act like these 4-5 young QBs are a commodity and BB would be willing to take any of them.
Guaranteed he has a different grade on these kids than you do, and using multiple first round picks just to draft any of them, is an act of desperation.

Of course I am assuming that.
But why is that such a stretch? He couldn’t trade for a QB he liked. He couldn’t sign one. The entire world says these 4 guys are excellent prospects.
What is the alternative? He hates QBs and will never get one?
Hoe can you guarantee what grade he has on those guys? That’s ridiculous and ignorant.

But in any event I said in January he needs to identify the QB and do whatever it takes to get him. There are any choices left except the draft. Guys rated as high as those 4 and possibly Jones are rated in the range where almost every successful QB comes from. Everyone else is rated in the range they all fail. Do the math.

I'm convinced BB has a man crush on Mac Jones.

If so, im fine with that but he better move up to not risk losing him.
Can’t be left empty handed.

It’s possible. I can see Bill saying “you don’t want my 2nd? Whatever we’ll see how the draft goes bud.” Then ignores Lynch until draft day, sees who he drafts, and then if Jones makes it past ATL and CIN and MIA (he should) he calls up DET to get ahead of CAR at #7. Maybe send #15, this year’s #2, and one of the #4’s. Then he calls Lynch back and says OK I’m out of ammo so take a 4th or cut Jimmy and I’ll take him for nothing. I don’t care I’ve got Mac now so Jimmy would just be a bridge anyway.
