Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

I’ve woke up pretty flat this morning and we haven’t even signed Jimmy G yet. Just not the route I want us to go down and I think it’ll be an underwhelming move.

I also don’t see us drafting a QB if we bring him back, at least not until the very late rounds and stuff him in the practice squad. I know BB has carried 4 QBs on a roster before but it’s unlikely. He’s not cutting Cam and there’s benefit to keeping Stid around with 3 years in the system.

If San Fran is smart, they hold jimmy out for the best possible deal from three totally desperate teams, Chicago, Washington and us!

The problem with that is Garoppolo has a no trade clause. If he only wants to go one team like the Patriots or Chicago (his hometown), they cannot play teams off each other in any trade negotiation. Garoppolo holds all the cards in any trade talks.

I think the QB situation is fluid. Really could go anyway.

A week ago it looked like Jimmy G had no chance of being available and the patriots had a real chance of trading up and getting a top guy. Do they have that chance anymore? With all the trades the "guy they want" may not be reachable anymore.

But, now Jimmy G may be reachable. So if you can't draft a guy then Jimmy G is the next best option. He's 30, knows the system and looked good in it. We know you can at least make a superbowl with him. BUT his biggest issue is durability.

Worst case scenario is we can't trade up for a guy and have cam newton for another year and then go through this exercise again next year.

I think with cam newton we are a wildcard team, with Jimmy G we are in the hunt in the AFC barring injury

One thing about this trade no one seems to mention is that they plan to recoop some of thier losses by trading Jimmy. They can always say if they trade Jimmy for a first 'all it cost us was 2 first round picks and a 3rd'. However I don't see them getting a first for Jimmy. He hasn't been amazing for them, and has only played 1 full season.

SF is not trading Jimmy G this year. Whoever they draft (Mac Jones), Jimmy G is going to start and the rookie will ride the bench and learn.

QBs often fetch / get paid way more than they “seem to be worth”. Examples : Stafford trade, Goff contract, SF moving to #3...

Not you, necessarily, but many posters who once cried about the AWFUL, CATASTROPHIC 7-9 record are now bemoaning the FA haul and the prospect of finding a solid QB to lead them.

I was fine with a rebuild. Obviously, as Guy told us at the end of the season & BB showed us by bringing in established players, they don’t want a rebuild. Therefore, it makes sense to get a QB. Injuries are a concern. There is no avoiding that. But why are fans crying about the possibility of flipping #15 for a guy who (1) knows the system better than any non-Brady (2) has recently lead his team to the SB (3) has the trust of the NE coaches/teammates ?

Maybe. But I think you are underestimating the psyche of an alpha NFL player and his agent.

SF would essentially be saying “we traded away everything to find your successor, because we don’t trust you going forward and we’d rather use all of our precious ressources to replace you. But, today we’re good. Go get em, Tiger !”

I'm sure Jimmy G will be happy knowing the team doesn't want him and to train his successor.

Or Jimmy could be extra motivated and play lights out, raise his value and get a mega contract from a new team.

I don't get it. You guys act like Qb competitions don't go on all over the league. Payton just paid Hill and then told him he has to compete with Winston for the job. Tua just watched his team gain a ton of picks with the expectation that they will take a Qb at 6.

It's the NFL. No one is guaranteed anything least of all the starting Qb. San Fran drafting the supposed next guy could be the best thing for Jimmy as there is no guarantee that who they take will not be a bust. Actually the odds are heavily in favor of him being a bust.

i just don't see that route. Its possible but the Niners would be losing Jimmy for nothing next year vs recouping a pick this year.

and also, Jimmy Knows one slip up, one missed game and the kid looks good he has a good possibility of not playing the full season killing his value.

Can't Jimmy play hardball too? Jimmy could perhaps sit out training camp (if he's still in SF) and say he wants a new contract.

The Bears should have traded for Jimmy G from the Pats instead of taking Trubitsky who set the franchise back five years at least. Not all on him, mainly the GM. Chicago having signed Andy Dalton and with NF still on the roster they won't be trading for JG this year.

The Pats should offer the 49ers a 4th rounder this year and perhaps a 5th rounder next year for Jimmy G. They probably won't get a better offer this year. Jimmy would have to re-do his contract but at least Pats get their QB.

Mike florio says the Niners will likely ask Jimmy G to take a paycut. (or any team who wants him). i'm sure he will be enamored with taking a paycut and then having to train his replacement.

wouldnt be surprised if Bill has already been texting him.

because they know him, he knows the offense, the possibilities to find an upgrade at QB are narrowing and he’s an upgrade on what we currently have. Seems quite straightforward to me.
knowing the offense is a huge factor that some seem to overlook.

Get your number 10 jerseys out the closet ladies and gentleman.
Trade Harry and a 4th for Jimmy G on a redone deal.
Then Draft Mills in the second sounds great to me.

Been saying this for months.
Nobody gives you a better chance to win now.
Nobody gives Mcdaniels the ability to run the passing game the way he wants.
In a perfect world we trade Cam to San Fran to mentor Fields.

Because he's 30, has a big contract, and he had a deer in the headlights look at the biggest moments of his career.

Patriots fans severely overrate this guy.

There's a reason that SF is going another way at that position, and SF actually has a very talented team.

Let them blow their salary cap if they're unwilling to trade him for much less.
