Bourne talking up Cam

Nah what does a pro NFL Wr know at all about football and what it takes to be a good QB.

All the experts on this board have made it clear Cam is trash so C can't possibly be the QB for this year

WTF is Bourne supposed to say? That Cam is a stiff that can't read a defense, feel pressure or throw an accurate pass? Of course he's going to talk him up.

It doesn't take an expert to see that Cant Newton has holes in his game.

Cam has holes but he isn't a bum either. He is better than Suckbisky, Mariota, the shell of Alex Smith, and any other QB was that reasonably available during FA.

Getting Russ or Watson, before rubbed gate, was never attainable.

Cam isn't elite, but he can be serviceable, and with the right weapons, which I think Bill got him, can do good. The draft is where a franchise QB will have to be found

If Cam turns it around and has a really good year I’ll eat a rock. The guy we saw out there last season looked washed AF and was constantly making bad decisions.

I hope I’m wrong, of course but the narrative going on around here excusing his play on a mystery injury or the no offseason doesn’t add up. Some bumps in the road were to be expected but he was a bottom 3 starting QB last year and hadn’t been doing very good in the years prior.

That said we were 7-9. Our team around him is much better and he can’t get any worse. But people seem to be forgetting how unclutch this dude was. We lost a few games pretty much entirely because of him.

newton is beyond horrible and we could surround him with tons of all pro talent and he will still be pathetic.

our hope is because the running game should be better, newton is put in less third and long situations.

Bourne could have played starting QB down the middle and let the chips fall where they may.

Its hard to fathom Bourne not playing a significant role for NE this season. Bourne says that he cant wait to get out there and play with Cam. Everything keeps pointing to Cam as # 1 QB for 2021.

1 Cam would not come back to sit on the bench.
2 He wants an opportunity to right the wrongs of 2020. Cant do that watching Stidham.
3 BB never let Cam hit free agency.
4 We heard rumors of Cam returning for months prior to his resigning.
5 BB paid Cam significantly more money. Is your 5 million dollar QB going to watch your no experience QB who gets paid peanuts start? No

Cam is definitely the starter week one. I’ll be demoralized if we don’t draft a QB first round though.

But a 1st round QB wont play this season unless its mop up duty.

Whatever this means as far as Cam, if anything, Bourne sounds like a motivated dude. Like him already.

Only thing that makes me optimistic he can turn it around is that Bill Belichick chose him over all those other guys available. This is a guy who coached him every week last year and certainly knows where cam newton is as a QB physically.

if he truly is washed up (as he looked last year) would Bill choose him over all the guys that were available this year?

Im still holding out hope that there is another plan a in place but if cam ends up being the starter week 1 he’ll have earned it in bill’s eyes. In that case id be ok giving him one more shot. But lets see

I love how sure some people are that going into the Patriots system with no offseason, catching covid, an injury(?), and high school level receiving corps couldn't possibly explain Newton's struggles. I'm not even saying he played well last season after his return. But to act like there is no hope for improvement is.. interesting.

did you not see newton repeatedly burying outlet throws in the ground? The pain of watching his awful mechanics is really hard to get over.

if he improves, that means burying outlet balls at receivers ankles instead of the ground. Somehow in my mind, that still reeks of incompetence.

Let me guess, covid, injuries, lack of knowledge of the routes, lack of trust in the receivers to win routes, lowered confidence in general, etc. couldn't possibly contribute to any poor throws, right? Still managed a 65.8% rate so those haunting images in your head of balls hitting the dirt might be a bit overblown.
