Cam says he would be happy to return to the Pats

Why does everyone take these posts as a comparison of Brady and Cam Newton like it's an attack on Brady. It's more a comparison of the trash they had on offense.

NOT a single person is saying cam newton is as good as Brady. Let's get that out of the way.

People are saying the lack of talent on offense hindered both QBs performances to a degree.
That's too logical for some people.

It can both be true that Brady was clearly better, but both were dealing with trash but had specific advantages and disadvantages. For parts of the season Brady had a significantly worse line, but Cam also had significantly worse receiver quality. Brady did better and Cam did worse, but they both did less than they would have with a superior supporting cast.

If a QB like Brissett couldn't make the playoffs on the Colts who are one of the more talented teams in the league, idk why people are placing hopes on him here. Same with a lot of the bottom feeders people are talking about. We should just build towards the future. That might mean next year is on ice to a degree.

The disrespect from that kid is high. I've always been pretty respectful my entire life, but I wonder if teen me could've done this to Peyton or Eli Manning. My hate for them in 06/07 was high enough lol.

i think the odds of him being back are much higher than zero....i'm just hoping it is in a backup role
After last years debacle showing that Sham’s throwing mechanics and ability are garbage and that his decision making is at an all time low......there’s NO WAY BB can bring him back....even as a backup for low cash what’s the point....He can’t play! I hope he catches on somewhere as he was a great guy here and teammate....just don’t want him here!!!!

I think it is something we should all be prepared for.
It would just signal another gap/rebuild year but honestly bring in Mariota or some other guy that can at LEAST THROW the ball and make decisions!!! Cam had one of the worst QB performances in any season since league began...and STILL KEPT THE JOB! Got to get him out of here BB!

No matter your feelings on Cam, this kid is a little douchecanoe. Cannot imagine doing this as a high schooler.

A Hiesman trophy winner, National Champion QB, #1 overall pick and Superbowl QB takes the time to show up at a football camp to help you and you are a little sh@t to him? Whoever was running that camp, should have tossed that kid out on his ear.

Now I want BB to bring Cam back and win a SB (over Brady) with him!

They conveniently left 3rd down conversions out of the criteria, and that more than anything else was my biggest problem with Newton.

I agree that this would not be a fair QB comparison at all.

The thing is -- and for some reason a certain segment around here just doesn't have the reading comprehension for it -- the point of those comparisons is not to say one was better than the other but point out that for different reasons the bottomline (i.e. production on offense) was on a similar tier.

Which is where ultimately the question comes in.. we give Brady his two year 50M deal and pay him either 31M APY (dead money from before) or go the Saints route and just backload everything, now what ?

Yes we have the QB item of the equation solved for (hopefully) 2 years but given the cap space situation we are now more or less sitting ducks unless we throw our entire philosophy out of board and backload everyone knowing we will be in cap hell in 2 years and have to cut practically everyone like the Eagles do now.

Which is usually when people bring up inconsistent drafting in the last couple years where they have a point but that point is ultimately irrelevant now because that is done. It is in the past and while venting and whining about it makes some feel better for a bit, there is nothing you can do about it but you still need to put together a competitive roster for the upcoming season.

And that is why the entire Brady conversation is so mindnumbing to me. It leads nowhere the same way that whoever ended up being QB for us last year would have led us nowhere but at least with Cam we saved a ****ton of money and the coaching staff got to dabble their feet a bit in what it is like to build an offense around a more mobile QB.

I want a much better veteran with a 2-3 year contract than Cam.

That being said, how does sign a veteran (cam or better) delay our search for a long0-term answer? We could draft a QB high in 2021 and if necessary in 2022.

Cam would be a delay if you think that Bill would pass on a veteran answer at QB, one would lead us for 4-5 years.
"I think" it would delay the process because a slightly improved Cam with slightly improved personnel around him and our opt-outs back, likely equates to play offs. Cam is 31, so the sense of urgency to find a long term answer goes away because he's relatively successful. Wouldn't you rather see a decisive move for a young talented QB in the draft or FA? Maybe its a gamblers thought process, but I'd rather roll the dice for a kid with high potential than the veteran on the mid-higher side of mediocrity.

Difficult not to root for him. I still think the a version of a good season would be a young QB in the draft (if the cards fall right) and Cam with a full offseason as the bridge. But his ability to make that jump with more time in the system is just a gut feeling. I wouldn't put much money on that.

The guy needed James White to tell him where the Blitz was coming from. Threw 15 yards pass in the ground after 5 yards. This had nothing to do with learning the offense. Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. At this point Mac Jones at 15 is much better value than Cam Newton and Mac Jones shouldn’t even be drafted in the 1st round. If Bill resign Cam, I understand why he is under .500 without Brady

Cam Newton makes 'hell yes' pitch to return to Patriots in 2021 (985thesportshub.com)

We really are going to see Cam start in week 1 aren't we. Welp... go Pats.
I think we'll know by the end of the draft. We'll see what other teams have done and what's left for Bill's "value" picking in FA. Unless another team decisively moves in and offers him $$ and rescues us, we may very well see him again. I like the guy mostly, just not his right arm. The Seattle game, 1st Buffalo game and the Denver COVID game... we might have been 10-6. If it's Cam, go Pats.

I think we'll know by the end of the draft.

We will know by the end of the first or second week of FA. Most likely earlier, to make more informed FA pitches to available players.

There is no way anyone drafted would start over a healthy Cam (or any other vet QB) and at the same time I doubt BB & co. will end up in the same cluster**** again with a QB signed late.

Pretty much. If we bet on a draft pick, it makes sense to keep a cheap Cam on the roster until the new guy is ready.

Another clip from the podcast or whatever it was:

Not surprised the Pats leaving the door open. A rare locker room presence.

Cam would be a good backup if he signs for cheap. He could fill in short term ok but long term would not be good but that applies with any backup we've had, a long term injury to QB we expect to write off the season.
