Belichick criticism mega-thread

It's so odd that the Boston and New York sports media are so bad. But several places jump to the top of my head as being abysmal: Miami, Orlando, Kansas City, San Francisco. So many twerps do sports media in these places. Oh, and I forgot Indianapolis. How could I forget Indianapolis?

Is that why the vast majority of Bucs fans wanted to fire him?
That's what losing does. Just look around here after only 1 losing season there are folks that want BB's head on a pike. Lol

Please inform us all where, in the NFL, the line between successful/failure is. What's the win total? Is a playoff appearance the line? A particular round in the playoffs?

Where's that line of demarcation?
Successful season: Winning the Super Bowl.
Unsuccessful season: Everything else.

Having said that....

If/when you have an unsuccessful season(s), it is both fair and reasonable to step back and evaluate if the team is heading in the right direction towards a successful season, or if they are not. 2021 will be a very important year for NE to establish they are indeed moving in the right direction.

Licht's first couple of drafts were pedestrian, and he had the same misfortune that McDaniels had in Denver:

In terrible QB drafts, they needed a QB and took the best one of the bunch, only to have that not work out.

But take a look at his recent drafts (2017-today)

Howard
Godwin
Vea
Jones
Davis
Kappa
Whitehead
White
Bunting
Dean
Miller
Edwards
Wirfs
Winfield

Vaughn
Johnson

thinking BB's legacy should diminish because of Brady's 2020 season on a new team is like saying Brady's legacy should diminish because in 2002 he didn't win another SB. Or because of the '05-'13 seasons he fell short. It's absurd!
Add onto that - BB was already a 2x SB winning coordinator on a very D-based team. He turned around the useless Browns in 1994. He was an established entity. He made Brady successful early by having an amazing D built around him from 2001-06, when he was throwing for 3000/28/14. BB's system (and Weiss/Pioli) allowed an unathletic but smart QB thrive. It's not all or nothing.

You really warped that quote. Read it again.

Arians said, "I think personally, too, he’s making a statement, you know? It wasn’t all coach [Bill] Belichick.”
I didn't "warp" the quote. I copy/pasted it verbatum.

Making any long lasting judgements at this point may be premature, but Belichick's legacy will be diminished if he has no success over the 5 years or so while Brady wins a Super Bowl or 2.

Sports Illustrated: SI reports (quoting Arians) that Brady was driven to win to prove Patriots success was him and not Belichick

“Tom is playing for his teammates right now,” Arians said. “He wants those guys to experience what he’s experienced six times. I think personally, too, he’s making a statement, you know? It wasn’t all coach [Bill] Belichick.”
I wondered why arians is mentioning belichick so much. i realized that it likely is because BB and the pats routinely beat down his colts and steelers teams and beat him at AZ with garrapolo starting his first game. Nothing personal i guess...

Like it or not, Brady's not coming back and Belichick is the Patriots' best (and only) hope for success moving forward.

Either that or.... you know.... he's right.....

He didn’t trade Brady. Brady was a free agent and told the patriots he was leaving and there was nothing they could do to keep him
Why make stuff up? He never said that. He spoke to Bill one last time early March to give the Pats one last chance at keeping him. Bill told him the highest they could go was 1 yr $22m, talking like he was employee #12 and not an upcoming free agent. All it took was 2 yrs $50m, the Drew Brees deal. Bill blew it, plain and simple. That early March phone meeting was reported on from various outlets. Stop making stuff up.

He went to Robert krafts house before free agency started and told him he was leaving. Kraft asked him if there was anything they could do to keep him and he said no.
Thats a fact.

Your rumored offer from belichick is not a fact.

Ya, he went to Krafts house after he spoke to Bill on the phone. What the hell do you think Bill and Brady talked about?

We all know the facts:

2018 - After winning MVP and bringing the Pats to the SB, which they lost because Butler was benched, he was offered a 1 yr incentive deal

2019 - After winning the SB he got another 1 yr incentive deal which he only signed if he could become FA. He knew he wasn’t gonna get a multi year commitment from Bill.

2020 - spoke to Bill one last time before hitting FA. Got nothing from Bill and signed with Bucs for the 2 year Brees deal he wanted from Bill. Won SB first year making Bill look foolish.

Any way you slice this Bill comes out looking like an ass. He had the greatest player ever and ****ed him around with 1 yr prove it deals. Bill rolls out Cam this year and we have the worst offence we’ve ever seen. Brady should of retired a Patriot and it’s on Bill, and to a lessor degree Kraft, that he isn’t.

AFAIK it was widely reported that pats and brady had zero contract before the FA . They did talk before the season started in 2019 and once brady knew it wont work out he knew it was going to be is last season in NE. He even said so on the howard stern show.

Certainly agree Bill has missed on some picks but my god that's a lot of talent and production that walked out the door.

7-9 looks more like a miracle to me every day.

That meeting at Kraft’s house was after BB shafted Brady. Infact BB and Kraft really shafted Brady a year earlier when just after he won the SB they told him “no extension” and Brady put his house for sale.

7-9 will look not so bad if we do even worse next year.

Exactly. Why are people forgetting this sequence of events. BB kicked out Brady by jerking him around on 1 year incentive laden prove it deals.
