Are the Chiefs in trouble?

the OP is just histrionics. No QB, even Brady can overcome key losses in the Superbowl. Just look at 2007. We lost our RG in the first series and that's where the Giants attacked Brady up the middle all day. Mahomes losing BOTH OT's made the Buc DL look like the 2nd coming of the 86 Bears. I'd be shocked if the Chiefs don't draft the OL early and often.

On the other hand the fact are the facts and winning Superbowls adds a premium to everyone's salary making it harder to keep under the cap and keep your own FA's. But KC has the hardest question answered for a LONNNNNG time to come.

BTW- It was surprising that it seemed KC was being outcoached by the Likes of Arians and Bowles. Not only did they have better game plans on both sides of the ball, they seemed more focused and better prepared. Penalties KILLED the Chiefs on both sides of the ball.....and THAT's coaching.

Very true, but there is no one in the AFC that I'd be worried about if I were KC. Buffalo maybe, but other than that, no one. Baltimore with Lamar Jackson doesn't scare me unless he can learn to throw the ball.
Buffalo needs more defense and a running game.

The luxury of having Sammy Watkins as the third pass catcher is over. Hardman is trending towards bust status & the other WRs are JAGs.

Gilmore has trailed him in the last few matchups. He’ll now be free to cover Kelce (if he stays) while Hill is bracketed.
Hardman for Harry?

Harry gets to play with an elite qb so we will get to see if Pat can get anything out of him and we add some much needed speed to the offense.

They will always be in the mix because they have Mahomes, but they’ll begin to resemble their 2018 team soon. Good offense but a defense that, to quote Bart Scott, can’t stop a nosebleed.

Not to mention Mahomes sells Allstate insurance, Head and Shoulders shampoo, Helzberg diamonds, Nebraska Furniture Mart, groceries. I expect a Mahomes Toyota dealership to pop up any day now.
Used to live in the Omaha area. It’s Nebraska so not a lot to do but I can say I miss Nebraska Furniture Mart. That place was awesome.

Not only this but he needs to change his style. If he keeps running around like that his prime will be the same as Cam and he will be a shell of himself by age 30. He has to become more of a pocket passer and read the defense better.
He had to run around due to his depleted O-line (and a great defense) though.

Glad a few people are being honest about Mahomes's health. Guy was clearly battered, and not moving well on that turf toe. Several articles state that he's likely headed for surgery. When you've got a messed up foundation, that's going to affect everything. You could see a lot of times he couldn't even get his feet into position as fast as normal just to attempt throws.

Overall, I get the cause for concern with the cap. The Chiefs are not in trouble though, and certainly not based on this game missing the two damn starting tackles, and with an injured star QB.

Side note: I don't think those injuries diminish anything for Tampa, and Brady. Injuries are a part of this game. Sure bet a healthy Rob Gronkowski against the Giants would've added another ring to the Patriots collection...but thems the breaks.

They still have one more year before the Mahomes deal explodes, though in 2021 his cap number goes to $25M (up from $5M this year.)

  • Frank Clark deal just so, so bad. Give up a first round pick to overpay like this? My god, when will teams realize that big contracts for edge rushers are the worst deals?
  • Mathieu‘s 20M cap hit is outrageously high. Guessing restructure but restructure always just makes things worse later on.
  • Fisher seems like a potential cut.
  • Hitchens...lol at that contract.
  • Schwartz like Fisher might be cut...back problems

Not good. They’ll still be AFC favorites but they’ve been making bad deals for a few years and relying on Mahomes and superstars. It won’t be long before they’re the Packers/Seahawks fielding teams with significant roster holes.

I do not understand why this happens but history says it is true.

Chiefs are great but shallow. If they suffer injuries there is no depth. That will haunt them the most. Watkins is gone and if Hill or Kelce gets hurt, they are in trouble.

And that's only going to get worse as Mahomes' mega contract kicks in.

It appears as if they will not be able to get BETTER next year, however, they are still pretty damn good if they can stay about the same.

The KC O line needs major retooling or Mahomes will end up as RG3 2.0
Weren't both their starting tackles out? I think they'll be back next year on top of the AFC (competition-wise).

You are delusional.
It is a joke.

I'm really curious why the Bills didn't implement the Patriots plan against them? I mean...they gave the damned blueprint with less talent. Do the Bills not have the talent I thought they did but frankly I didn't follow the NFL much this season b/c I had a new job so only watched the playoffs.

Really poor game plan. They also decided not to run the ball and instead win on josh Allan's arm.

You don't beat the chiefs getting into a foot race

This is exactly what I'm talking about. For some reason some posters take it as they won't be good anymore.

I'm just saying their "stacked" window is ending.

Mahomes is an incredible talent. I don't think there are many absolutes to draw from last night except that a championship team doesn't just need an incredible QB, but a serviceable offensive line. From a cap perspective, I'm not too familiar, but Reid and Co. seem to be good enough to figure something out.

Pretty sure Brady, when talking to Mahomes on the field after the game, said "Hey, now you know how 2015 AFC Game felt. You're a great talent and sometimes its more than just a "you" thing. You'll go on to more SBs.

But don't ever ****ing think you're gonna surpass me."

He got pressured on 50% of his dropbacks and this is your take out of it?
And he hit guys in the hands/facemask/chest on several occasions too.

One throw he made was totally incredible to me - rolling to his right, a defender snagged his foot, so he was falling forward onto his face, essentially. Somehow, while falling, he got enough energy into his arm to throw it 20 yds downfield and hit his guy who cleanly dropped it. I've never seen someone make anything resembling an accurate throw while being in such a bad throwing position - unreal.

the second one, the year after the Pats lost to the Eagles.
It took the GOAT QB and HC to pull it off.

Plus, prudent salary cap management. Depth on the OL. Stellar defense. The means to run the ball effectively.

The Chiefs have none of the aforementioned. They have a trio like the Steelers had with Ben, Bell and Brown. Mahomes, Kelce and Hill. Twice now Hill has been made to disappear and twice the Chiefs lost.

In the post season thus far,, the Chiefs beat JAG to bottom top tier QBs. 0 - 2 vs HOF bound HCs and QBs in the post season.

I think that was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. The picture from that play is now on the Chiefs front page at reddit.

Because of wild homerism, I've always been a bit more hard with Mahomes than necessary but that pass was one of the most impressive displays of focus and talent I think I've seen in a long time on a football field.
