Wow. Guess the Colts are in the QB market too.

This is surprising as everyone on the Colts was saying they wanted him back. That brings them back to square one on having a strong team but no QB. They will be a top destination if any free agent QB’s come up in the market or for trades.

I have a lot of respect for Philip Rivers, his body of work as an NFL QB, how he's conducted his career, and how he lives his faith as a fellow Catholic.

Congrats on a long and productive career, Philip... God bless you, enjoy your family and whatever comes next in your life.

Colts were heading into the season with a good amount of cap space ($65 mil), but no quarterbacks. Rivers and Brissett - who took up a combined $46 mil of cap space - were their 1st and 3rd largest cap charges in 2020.

Unfortunately for the Patriots this means there is one more team looking to sign a QB, unless this is Suck for Luck: The Sequel.

I heard this guy has a lot of children

I was thinking about Rivers' HOF chances the other week and he is probably in. He's currently 5th all time in passing yards and passing TDs with 8 pro bowls. He's been very durable and has a postseason "moment" where he played the 07 AFCCG with a torn ACL. I was surprised, though, that the most TD passes he had in a season was 34. He never had a season where he threw for 40+ TDs or was regarded as the best QB in the league. The one year where the Chargers were the best team in the league (or at least the AFC), they lost their first playoff game. He'll get inducted in the Hall of Fame, but it will be due to being very good for a long period of time, which is an accomplishment.

pretty sure he would have a ring if McCree goes down in 2006. chargers would have beat the colts and bears
I think his lack of rings keeps him out of the HOF at least in the near term but I wonder if voters would consider the fact he played in an era with a lot of all time great QB's. Maybe that's what kept him from getting to the top.

Solid career, good QB that never won a ring with that SD team back in the day with LT/Gates.

I wonder what would have happened in the 2007 AFCCG if Rivers was healthy. The Pats only won that game 21-12 and it was only 14-12 after the third quarter.

Crazy him and the guy he was drafted to replace (Brees) will both retire the same year.
