another farcical punishment for a non-football operation misstep...
Said this when the "issue" first broke.

I had dinner with some friends the day this came out. One of the young men there was a videographer for another NFL team - did basically the same job as those Pats folks who made the video. He was in a press box when it broke and he and the others there, all similarly employed, started laughing at how stupid the whole thing was - said you can pretty much watch the same footage just by watching TV.

If it was anyone but the Pats, nothing would have come of this. And this guy most certainly was NOT a Pats fan.

If I were to go around saying I was Emperor because of some farcical aquatic ritual.........

Yeah it really stings this year because the pick would have been #77, not in the 90s as usual. Winovich was the 77th pick, Thuney was the 78th.

The Pats will get the 97th pick for letting the greatest QB in the history of the NFL go. Almost as bad a return as BB got for Chandler Jones!

You mention Thuney and Chandler Jones... wasn't the return for Jones : Thuney himself ? Which was an excellent return...

a guard for the leader sacker in the NFL??

They traded Jones for Cooper (who never played a down) and a second rd pick that they sent to NO for a 3rd and 4th, which ended up being Thuney and Mitchell.

So they got Thuney and Mitchell for six games. Thuney is a good player, but the differnce between not having Tuney and having Jones is night and day.

Compare that with what the Raiders got for Khalil Mack.

fun thing is, it has not had anything to do with Bill, it was this Robert Kraft guy but lets say it was Bill, he knew everything about a non-football tv-show paid by Bobby Kraft was around there a week before they played the Bengals, fecking Bengals, who cares about them anyway?

what did the ravens get for the bluetooth headset? hmm nothing I guess, unfortunatelly you are not able to see the drop off in performance since the headset guy has been removed from the sideline, wait what? yeah right

The also got ~$16m in cap space a year. Which they used to signed Gilmore.

So elite guard, defensive player of the year, and a WR who contributed to a SB win. Seems like a good trade off to me.

Considering they won in a SB in 2016 after they traded him, the last year of Jones' rookie contract, I think they came out massive winners.

Yeah we really could use that pick this year.

Next time maybe hire a crew that isn't stupid enough to point a video camera at another team's sideline.
Or the league could not rob the team of draft picks for trivial, non-football ops infractions (if it can even be called that).

The onus is on the league to be fair and consistent, not on the Patriots to toe some perfect, arbitrary, ambiguous, and constantly changing line.

What's ridiculous, is that it wasn't even Patriots personnel doing the filming. It was the Kraft production company. And the BROWNS should have been the ones fined for not letting the Bengals know about the taping since it occurred at the Browns stadium. The BROWNS knew it was going on and the BROWNS were the ones who gave permission.

Also, considering that the NFL allows teams like the RAVENS to use the 360 Cameras in every stadium so people can look at the opposing sidelines with them it's farsical to claim the Patriots violated some non-existant rule.

This is really a 7th round pick violation, but since this is the 2nd time the league basically doubled the punishment. I do feel that the league should take intent into account when assessing penalties. The intent here seems clear that it wasn't to gain an advantage.

The NFL hires crews to do JUST THAT for every game. It's shown on the NFL 360. It was a HIGHLIGHT of the Ravens website. Every game. Every Down. You could watch the opposing sidelines with NO PROBLEM..

Pretending Jones is in the class of Mack or that sacks are the best indication for a DE doesn’t make sense to me.

Jones was inconsistant, was always getting sacks « when it didn’t count » and showed up naked or semi-nude at a station.... I prefer Thuney and Mitchell (who you minimise, as he was a very key member of a SB win).

How about the fact that this occurred at the BROWNS stadium and that the BROWNS were notified and it was expected for the BROWNS to notify the Bengals since it was the BROWNS stadium..

Blaming the Patriots for the Browns screw-up is just laughable.. But then, that is Herr Gooddell for you.. Guy is a joke.

This was a Kraft documentary crew. If the league had done it then I agree it's not a problem for the organization. Since it wasn't, it is a problem.

Don't point a camera at another team's sideline. It can't be that hard can it?
