Patriots expected to part ways with Cam Newton

If had to choose between Cam and another starting QB, I would take another starting QB 10 times out of 10
You do have to consider that Jimmy will cost about 10-15x as much and be an injury risk and the jury is out on whether he can elevate this team.

Cam has had 4 games this season of a 100 Rating or better (vs. MIA, vs. BAL, @HOU vs. NYJ)

Cam had a 94.6 Rating @Seattle

Cam had a 99.0 Rating @NYJ

Cam's Ratings @Buffalo @LAC and @Mia were 81.1 - 87.4 - 86.8

9 out of 15 Cam starts, Cam played at least decent and sometimes great

Enjoy seeing Cam win MVP as a member of NE next season
You are out of your mind

No, actually he sucked.

Newton had fewer TD passes than Dak Prescott who missed 3/4 of the season. Sam Darnold, who was a total disaster this season, had more TD passes than Newton. There are multiple other quarterbacks the Patriots would have been better off with. I can think of only one quarterback who had over 200 pass attempts that I wouldn't prefer over Newton... Dwayne Haskins (probably your 2021 Patriots starting QB).

You can't evaluate cam with just TD passses. I agree he sucked, but you need to evaluate him for what he is, a run-pass option quarterback who even in his prime was as likely to produce with his feet as with his arm.

The problem with Cam this year isn't a lack of passing touchdowns per se, it's that the air game in general wasn't good enough to force defenses to respect the pass. That put too much pressure on the run game and didn't let Cam do what he does best, which is use his legs for ambush plays, catch opposing defenses napping and make big gains with his feet.

In order to execute his game Cam needs to be able to keep defenses off balance, not with big throwing games, but with at least enough gains in the air that they can't stack the box. When all he has is his run game Cam is utterly unremarkable. Unfortunately that's the Cam we got this year.

This is all that needs to be said.
it doesn’t need to be explained, codified, argued, defended, detailed or expanded upon.
It is an incontrovertible truth and 100% of the newton story.

take this offense as constructed, throw in the injuries that happened over the course of the year, and find me a QB in the league that wouldn't have "sucked"

you watch brady struggle at times last year with a much better roster, yes?

I'm ready to move on from Cam because of his issues with pocket awareness and his mechanics breaking down when he's under duress. At the same time, I think we would have been lucky to get 10 wins if Tom was still here. We have issues on the OL, nothing at TE (hopefully one or both of the rookies breaks out next year) and our options at WR start with a guy who, as much as I love him, would be a #2 at best in most offenses.

We have to address those missing fundamental pieces of our offense. Help on the OL and Hunter Henry would go a very, very long way.

Adam Schefter might be high. No way cam newton after his performance this year gets a $25million contract. Brady only got $30million

Excuses excuses excuses.
Brady had a much worse offense and didn't 'suck' but had a much better record and took them to the playoffs. Comparing Cant to Tom is laughable.
Cornelius, it's time to come back from the Yukon. ;)

last year? 2019-20 was a much better roster across the board than 20-21....hands down

there is no doubt brady is a better QB than Cam at this stage and any stage of their careers......different sorts of weapons in their prime, but right now brady clearly better

but this team this year goes nowhere with brady at 43, brady in his prime, cam in his prime or cam now.......7-9 or 9-7, same result.....not excuses, just simple reality

Cam cannot how the ball. Most other QB's can.

This year's offensive line was lightyears better than 2019. The TE position is a wash. The RB group is the same. The receiving group was better last year but not by a ton. I would say based on how bad last year's line was this year's offensive supporting cast was better.

It doesn't matter if Schefter is high - the issue is if Snyder is still high.

Last year we had a WR Corp of Edelman, Dorsett, Gordon, and later added Harry and Sanu. This year Edelman was out most of it so we had Harry/Meyers/Byrd has our premiere targets. Massive downgrade.

Once Wynn came back I think the lines were pretty negligible. We are better now, but we are more inconsistent than our best variation last year.

Gilmore bring in and out of the lineup definitely was a hit to the secondary as was Chung’s loss

It is entirely irrelevant what Brady got. Whatever the market is, that he will get.

And from a comp pick view I say the more the better.

I get that, I just think it would be kinda crazy to think the market for Cam Newton being
25million

Fitzpatrick got 8 million and he showed more last year than cam did

I'd say the visible improvement was mostly in run blocking. Pass blocking was better but I don't know if it was that much better than 2019.

WIthout Edelman I think the offense not including the QB took a small step back. But the defense I think was way worse.

Last year Edelman being healthy the first 3/4 of the year was big but Dorsett and Byrd are basically the same guy (Byrd might be a hair better I guess) Josh Gordon didn't do much before he fizzled out and I doubt would have even cam close to matching Jakobi's numbers if he didn't flame out so I would say Jakobi > Gordon. Harry last year and Harry this year were both basically useless. Sanu had a good game against the Ravens and that was about it. All in all I think the difference is negligible from 2019 to 2020 for the receiving core.

Andrews was a major loss for the offensive line as Shaq Mason seemed to struggle without Andrews in the middle. We all know how half the season with Newhouse went. Cannon was starting to show signs of regression and Thuney was solid as ever. This year has way more depth on the offensive line which went a long way to helping the run game. I don't think last year's O-line was even close to this year's.

I'm, isn't this news like 3 months old already?
