N'Keal Harry (lack of) Progress Report

I'm convinced you haven't the foggiest clue what you're talking about anymore. I've criticized plenty of players when it's deserved. The difference between you and me is that I look at reality and see the entire picture where you look at everything through s**T covered lenses.
I can promise you I do look at things through a lens but it is not s**t covered. It is BB covered for sure. I am biased and I have favorites, Edelman has a life time pass. He can't do any wrong. He has paid his dues.
Harry on the other hand does not garner any confidence in me, I see that he can jump and make contested catches but that is just playing with fire. Lets see how this plays out over the years. If you happen to be right about Harry, you will become my favorite poster.

You're insulting Aaron's ability. He was juking guys out of their shoes. He was awesome in the open field.

He was the best TE I ever saw at juking, cutting, stop n go...The Real Deal. That's why he got that big contract. Harry looks like he has moon boots on when he makes cuts. He eurosteps through his routes.

Liar, liar, pants on fire.
Outside of a few catches late in the game against one of the worst secondaries in the NFL, he’s been a complete non-factor. Where are you seeing improvement?

He caught a fade in the end zone last week. Did you see that fade last year? Last year he had no idea how to run a fade. He caught a few back shoulder passes this year. Last year he tripped over himself trying to run a back shoulder grab. Last year it looked like he had three feet. At times this year he has looked special - I know very rarely, but last year it was never.

Coming out of college everyone said he was a project, just like Keene this year. He was injured last year, and there was no pre-season this year, so his growth is possibly stunted. He tried hard during the off season - not a slacker. I can understand that playing for the Patriots and TB12 could be intimidating and take a bit longer to gain confidence. When someone is nervous, their brain freezes and they can't move naturally. That is why I was glad to see that Cam was encouraging him. I am guessing that Stidham is "star struck" too. With Harry or Stidham overcome their issues? Let's hope so, but who knows.

Not a great argument I realize. But enough to give him the rest of the season. Hard to believe he looks no better at all to some people.

I hope we draft "back to back' wide receivers in 2021 after a DL in round 1. OLine, RBs, and hopefully Asiasi and Keene are good so TE are all set. Will Harry ever be a #1? I doubt it, but maybe. I would prefer to have 3 good WRs and two good TEs coupled with our OLine and RBs. That could be a good offense for years to come.

So if the plan was to draft a "Project" WR at 32 overall, why not go with DK Metcalf? Metcalf possessed the most outstanding physical tools/athleticism coming out of the draft since Calvin Johnson in 2007.

Russell Wilson said the other day he believes Metcalf will go down as one of the best wide receivers of all time when his career is over.

You do not need speed to be successful. It helps, but the league is littered with guys who have speed and accomplish nothing more than the lumbering Harry.

Technique can be improved upon. Better routes can be run. I'm not saying anything new or revolutionary here.

And you are 100% dead wrong saying that an athlete cannot improve twitch muscles. It will take you 30 seconds or less to Google it... I suggest you do...

If Harry wants to be successful as a wr in the nfl, he needs to put in the work. It's that simple.

Yes you can improve fast twitch muscles to a degree, but that improvement is based on your genetics. Harry just doesn’t have the fast twitch gift.

900 yards, 7 TDs over 15 ypc, almost 60 catches his 1st season . 400Yards, 3 TDs 25 ypc so far this season...

Hes absolutely killing it.

This is ridiculously easy to do.

I mean, Green Bay took Jace Sternburger over Chase Winovich!

Heh. When he was a rookie last season, I said his ceiling was Anquan Boldin.

In retrospect, I’d like to take this time to apologize to Boldin for that.
I also said Boldin and Dez. Now I think his ceiling may be Aaron Dobson.

Metcalf is amazing. I agree. Almost every team passed on him twice. I do think Metcalf and Wilson are a match made in heaven (the same as Brady and Gronk), but Metcalf would be good with anyone. I would love to have Metcalf but I am not going to cry over spilled milk - that is not helpful in any way. BB demands everyone gets better including the scouts. Maybe we will get Dimitroff back after he was fired in Atlanta - somehow he picked Julio Jones so he has a respectable track record.

In the meantime I think Cam has the right attitude. Let's encourage and work with what we have. Can't change it now, but get better going forward.

In 12 career games over 2 seasons he has 271 yards for an average of just under 23 ypg. He’s broken 30 yards 3 times, but only broken the 40 yard mark once.

Laughable production for a first round pick.

National offensive scouts for the Patriots were livid when their opinion was over-ridden, to NOT draft Maroney. When Belichick chose to listen to McDaniels and his kid brother who coached Maroney in Minnesota, over the scouts. That was over a decade ago, McDaniels' clout has grown since but the talent eval is still total garbage from the OC.

.

Just to get past the million excuses for NKeal Harry (just like for Maroney, Chad Jackson, Michel), look at all the rookie WRs this year producing despite shortened covid training camp. Not just early picks but low pick guys.

Jefferson, Claypool, Lamb, Jerry Jeudy and Higgins

Brandon Aiyuk, Laviska Shenault Jr., Bryan Edwards, Devin Duvernay, Gabriel Davis, Tyler Johnson, Collin Johnson, Darnell Mooney and Donovan Peoples-Jones

--

14 rookies this year. All better than NKeal Harry

Took time to look at stats for all these COVID impacted first year WR and they are all but one doing better than NKeal. But none of them suffered an injury in their first year and the Patriots offense is hard to learn....I have run out of excuses.
If you look at his numbers and how they rank in the NFL, it is very saddening but then his QB is also not very accurate so it is hard to evaluate his stats alone, however the most accurate QB was not willing to throw him the ball and that should be a red flag.

I put this squarely on Belichick. He wants to coach guys he wants to coach. The position of WR is full of divas that don't fit the Belichick mold, IMO. That's not to say that every guy that plays outside the numbers is an uncoachable pain the ass, but the position has more "me first" type guys than, let's say, O line. So he has to not only navigate the normal hits and misses that every team does, but then add the layer of looking for his type of guy. I am 100% convinced this is why they can't draft true outside the numbers field stretchers for chit. They've passed on far too many wideouts since the days of Deion Branch and David Givens. This is BB's Achilles heel, and it's part of his legacy. It's the one thing he sucks at.

There were plenty of people who looked at Metcalf and his combine results and thought he had a very high bust protentional. Someone had to take the risk. I am also convinced that if he came here, he would have not gotten he coaching to develop him into what he could become. He would have been a one trick pony, running fades and jump balls. Add to that that we had crabby TB freezing wideouts out and admitting to it. The first time he ran a wrong route, zigged when he shoulda zagged or wasn't explosive enough for Old Man Brady, Metcalf would have been frozen out. Quite simply Metcalf wasn't coming here unless he fell to the 3rd or 4th round, IMO.
