So how did most countries in the world flatten their curves by requiring the use of ordinary masks ?

Of course cloth mask work to lower the overall transmission rate. It is just that they won't stop the wearer from taking in the virus. But they mitigate the amount of particles a potential positive wearer might spread to others. And that cumulative mitigation -- if enough people are wearing them -- is what drives the flat curves everywhere else.

Could you please provide the link where it's said that "most other countries in the world flattened their curves with the use of "ordinary" masks"? Because, my research shows that isn't the case at all.

Did you even bother to read the article from Forbes that shows that 12 of the 17 states with mandatory mask policies since the end of May still had upward 14 day trends? If cloth masks worked, those places wouldn't have the issues they are. It completely debunks all the BS coming out of the "experts" who are claiming that 4-6 weeks of mask wearing would all but end the virus. It's just not the truth. Otherwise those places wouldn't be seeing upward trends. If a majority had been showing downward trends, then I'd agree with you. But, reality is that they aren't..

CA - 2 weeks - 90% upward trend
DE - 9.5 weeks - 73% upward trend
HI - 10 Weeks - 30% upward trend
IL - 9 weeks - 5% upward trend
ME - 9 weeks - 34% upward trend
MI - 2 weeks - 85% upward trend
NM - 6 weeks - 105% upward trend
PA - 10.5 weeks - 56% upward trend

Of note: Forbes has changed the article at least 3 times since they originally posted it without making any statements that the article had been update.

Well, there aren't five anymore. Both the UDFAs were cut today. Along with Will Hastings which makes me sad.

First of all thanks for the thorough response. I respect that.

That being said.. quite honestly I could not care less about statistics of the US when the majority of remaining countries on this planet weathered the storm some time ago and have reopened for the most part. And all this without suffering through -- what I will provocatively call -- the American idiot spikes.

None of the other places had some magic formula to get there except about a month (or more in some cases) of uncompromising shutdown followed by a strict mask mandate which since then has been relaxed to the point that in most of the EU for a month now we didn't even had to use masks in most public places or e.g. when shopping anymore.

I usually get a chuckle out of people who think they "debunk" actual work done by experts that have spend a good portion of their life doing research in an area. Mostly because this is often where the Dunning-Kruger effect comes in.

In this case specifically I am baffled because in order for all this not to cause some cognitive dissonance you must be ignoring everything that happens outside US borders:

I am curious what your explanation for the magic ****ery is that the EU countries employed to keep their curves flat. There are about 120M more people living the EU than in the United States just in case you think this is a normalization issue. Also the numbers have become even more lopsided since June.

It almost seems like all of this is not about masks at all but many simply think of fighting authority no matter the consequences as part of their identity.

FWIW, under the new CBA teams can have two players with unlimited experience on the PS, and 12 total, barring the proposed COVID-related expansion.

However, their salaries are fixed at ~$10K a week. [Teams are no longer allowed to overpay PS players, as the Patriots (and other teams) routinely did in previous CBAs.] I highly doubt Hoyer will stick around for that little money.

$10,000 per week?!? $40,000 per month? Wow.

They should sign Brett Favre and Jerry Rice. $40,000 per month has to be more than they're being paid to make those cheezy Copper Fit commercials.

Surely you know the evening FOX response. We test lots more than the EU.

Seriously, the much more telling statistic is the death toll by country on a graph. This can be raw numbers, or adjusted for population differences (to deaths per 100K population). The US numbers are terrible, likely the worst in the industrialized world. The idea of comparing deaths to the EU as a whole is instructive, since the EU population is higher than ours. Also, their reporting is as least as good as that in the US.

There are indeed 3rd world countries is as bad a shape as the US, Brazil and Mexico stand out. These countries also under-report death by large amounts.

I presume that you just make this up as you go. Please state the new NFL/CBA rule where there is a 14 day quarantine and a loss of three games. Don't bother. There is no such rule.

So, now there's a few situations to put your thoughts in context....lol

"The reserve/COVID-19 list is a temporary injured reserve due to the ongoing coronavirus.

Stafford can be activated off the list once he receives medical clearance, which entails passing NFL/NFL Players Association treatment and protocols. Unlike the standard injured reserve, there is no specified time frame for a return."

It's quite simple. The EU has used the same methodology for tracking COVID since day 1. Hospitals in the EU don't get extra funds from their individual governments based on the number of COVID cases they report.

The US, on the other hand, has changed it's methodology at least twice. The current methodology in TX bypasses just a positive test counting, but allows for 17 ways for you to be counted as a "POSITIVE" even if you aren't tested. It's f'in ridiculous. Florida has had issues where labs were ONLY reporting Positive cases and not reporting the ones that tested negative. They are also counting deaths as COVID deaths even if COVID wasn't the COD (ie. guy died in motorcycle accident).

Texas makes changes after combining, possibly skewing COVID-19 test data

Also, you have places that are calling any death where the person has COVID a COVID death. Even if COVID wasn't the COD. It's why the CDC actually has several different death numbers. The media is insisting on reporting only the deaths where the person had COVID even if COVID wasn't the COD.

All deaths involving COVID - 137K.
All deaths involving COVID and Pneumonia - 59,837. (This is the number where COVID is the COD).

Provisional Death Counts for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

The numbers that the media is reporting are bogus. Plain and simple. We'll never know what the real numbers are because that fits into the whole agenda of fear-mongering and control that is being pushed by certain aspects of this country.

Sorry, but you're incorrect. As of July 31s, the US still had less than 60K deaths where COVID was the COD with 4.6M infected. That's a 1.3% death rate. Considering that France, Belgium, UK, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Sweden have death rates of 14.5%, 14.2%, 13.5%, 11.2% , 8.6%, 14.2%, 7.1% (respectively) the numbers are hardly terrible. Adjusting for death per 100K population skews things ridiculously and no death rate is done against the whole population. It's done against those infected..

The EU's reporting is significantly better than in the US. They haven't changed their methodology nor have they skewed the numbers in attempts to get more funding.

So it is yet another conspiracy. Gotcha.
