Opt-Outs

So there's 36 players opting out so far, an AVG of 1.1 per team. Pats have 7. Clearly an outlier. I don't believe Pats players have unique circumstances that only apply to them, so something else is going on.

What do you think? I assume that as the # of players increased it created a psychological reason in the team to the point where some players that had doubts saw this team wasn't going to go far (no Brady, etc.) and maybe realized it just wasn't worth the risk given the potential return (aside from $$). This is obviously pure conjecture but it just seems odd.

Also, does anyone know if there's any validity to the tweet I posted about players w/ large guarantees being better off opting out if season ends up being canceled later?

IMO I think most of the Pats that have opted out have won their super bowls, made their $, played a long time (10 years-ish) and are concerned about their family. I think all those factors played a part.

But how do you explain what is happening in MLB with much less contact than football. I've got my fingers crossed they make this work and keep players and coaches safe in the process but it seems that every day new info comes out and usually not for the better. I guess we'll see.

There are 3 more days to go. Many more names to come, in all likelihood
.

True for three of seven Pats opt outs, no?

It'll be interesting as we get closer to the deadline. Since the player/league deal hasn't been signed yet, we're not even in the seven day opt-out period. I suspect some players will take it down to the last day, and if it looks like the team will eventually cut them anyway they'll take the $150k and opt out.

It's my understanding that letter still isn't signed so the clock is still ticking. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

The other opt out thread has become a *****y clusterf&ck so I need to start a new to ask a real question.

Does anyone know if there is an advantage to a player if he opts out vs doesn’t in the event there is no season?

thanks in advance for info
Specifically started a new thread because I didn’t want to post in an opt out thread that is no longer about opt out but people arguing about each other morality and intelligence and it gets merged right in.
How about we just rename this one People fighting about COVID 86.0 and start a new opt out thread so people interested in opt out news don’t have to page through a bltchfest?

Stick to the topic or get out.

Looks like the deadline is shifting:

Might sway some NFL players to opt out, no?

This is a little concerning.

Seems to me they're hearing there will be many ore opt outs and they want official word of it as quickly as possible. Likely to make big decisions sooner so they don't waste money.

I mean why else be in a rush to move the deadline up a couple days?

I thought that they were moving moving the deadline BACK, not up.

Sounds like they were moving it later. Now they are changing to move it sooner again.

Slater was contemplating opting out but is sticking it out.

What a shame... not a single Colts player opted out? Colts fans are having a celebration on their forums over all of the Pats players that are opting out, I was hoping for some karmaic balance to happen

shouldn't they be more worried about the psi of footballs and not a global pandemic.

Damm, Mosely got the best of both worlds with this one. he already got his 10Mill roster bonus last March. So the jets cap get hit with his 1.5 mill SB Amort, and his 10M roster bonus. His 6 mill salary gets rolled over.

I forget, does this count as a year against contract?

But yeah he definitely made out pretty good this year. If this doesn't count as a contract year though, he'll have one really cheap year coming up w/o a large bonus.
