So there's 36 players opting out so far, an AVG of 1.1 per team. Pats have 7. Clearly an outlier. I don't believe Pats players have unique circumstances that only apply to them, so something else is going on.
What do you think? I assume that as the # of players increased it created a psychological reason in the team to the point where some players that had doubts saw this team wasn't going to go far (no Brady, etc.) and maybe realized it just wasn't worth the risk given the potential return (aside from $$). This is obviously pure conjecture but it just seems odd.
Also, does anyone know if there's any validity to the tweet I posted about players w/ large guarantees being better off opting out if season ends up being canceled later?
IMO I think most of the Pats that have opted out have won their super bowls, made their $, played a long time (10 years-ish) and are concerned about their family. I think all those factors played a part.
