Opt-Outs

Between 50,000 and 90,000 people died in the us from the flu in flu season 2017, 6 months, with a vaccine, so you have no idea what you are talking about. Yes covid was worse then the flu this year.
If C19 was counted using the same methodology that is used to count flu cases, the C19 case count would be significantly higher than it already is.

The other thing that cracks me up is that you denialists/minimizers apparently don't realize the flu case counts involve all sorts of estimation and inference that you claim is happening, is illegitimate and is fraudulent in C19 case counts. Or perhaps you do realize it and accept pushing a double standard because it accomplishes your goal of trying to gaslight people about the seriousness of C19.

Another lineman out:

Chandler Brewer, OT, Los Angeles Rams

No surprise that >70% of guys opting out play at or near the line. Then there's this:

I actually don't even know what this last guy is trying to prove, but it sure has all the hallmarks of "Look what I learned to do in a junior college statistics class!"

I get so sick of that shlitz online. I dunno maybe in any given case they need to say goodbye to a close friend or relative over the phone to shut them the frack up.

Much of that was based upon the fact that there was no natural immunity along with no vaccine, and rather than keep elderly in the hospitals, New York city sent the sick elderly back into nursing homes where they infected more of the most at risk and caused a huge percentage of US deaths. The common flu attacks children, especially infants, at a much much greater rate then covid-19 does. When a 75 year old dies from the flu people think it is sad but don't report it in the media. Additionally, unlike the flu, most states as well as the CDC count any death of a person who has Covid as a Covid death. They are upfront about it, but they don't do this with the flu.
I've have stated this on the forum before, but I guess it needs repeating. The mortality statistics for the flu produced by the CDC are estimates based on hospital admissions. The annual number they come up with for flu deaths is much higher than the number of cases where the individual is known to have died from the flu. When this year is over and the CDC has time to digest all the data, the number of estimated Covid-19 deaths will undoubtedly be considerably higher than the confirmed number - just as with flu mortality.

I don't think there will be a season, and not a long one if there is. But what if there is? what are everyone's thoughts on assessing long-term health risk?
I don't think the owners want to play this season. If enough players opt out, they can take the high road and suspend the season out of an abundance of caution for the players and their families.

They can cut the salary cap in the 'off season' and get the players back on the plantation.

What a shame... not a single Colts player opted out? Colts fans are having a celebration on their forums over all of the Pats players that are opting out, I was hoping for some karmaic balance to happen

Do people actually believe that "rooting" or "wishful thinking" for a particular outcome has any bearing whatsoever on the outcome of professional sports? In another context R E A L I T Y.

Nothing that you do has any effect on spectator sports. The players are not going to call you up for your feedback on matters.

Id argue that the fans as a collective at a home game can have an effect on the game by cheering for the team

now this absolute piece of excrement, WhackjobFukknutsInVirginia is calling for deaths of those that disagree with his IDIOCY!! Ban this jerk!!

]If an athlete opts out of the season for personal health or family reasons due to Covid, he doesn't owe me any explanation beyond "that's my decision."

100% agree.

EVERYONE is entitled to make their own decisions.

That said, hopefully they understand that part of the risk of doing so includes never being able to re-assume their position on the team as it was prior to opting out.

They might not ever get back into the league again.

THIS AZZOLE MUST BE BANNED!!! Calling for deaths on a sports fan message board??? What part of this don't the rest of you people not get?? This person IS A NUT!

@RASTAN99, you're using commercial transport category, regularly scheduled aviation (i.e., "fly on an airline" as most understand it) in some of your posts, then posting data tracking all of aviation ("air traffic"). I am not sure whether "air traffic" also includes helicopters, but technically it does.

No helicopters.

Joker, I disagree with you a lot but you're not a dumb guy; you know he didn't call for the death of anyone.

He said that perhaps in order to make the downplayers realize the severity of the pandemic it may require them losing someone who is close to them.

and why is this crapola on a Patriots FOOTBALL fan football discussion page? it's because he's exactly who I said he is, a passive aggressive, ultra narcissistic egotist. He KNOWS to keep this crap on the political tab yet he pollutes every football thread he enters constantly with this barrage of negativity and oppressive opinion badgering. It's in the thousands of posts now and he's not showing signs of ever stopping this ridiculous jihad. I'm sick of his branding tactics and I despise what he's done here at Patsfans the past six months. Saying people need to die to prove HIS point IS calling for people's deaths in my book. I suggest he START right at home. EOS.
