League opt-outs

Seems like it. Pats definitely hardest hit by a wide margin.

It's not like every team has announced the opt-outs yet. As mentioned, there is still several more day. And with the league/NFLPA talking about allowing the opt-out deadline to be pushed back further, we could see quite a few.

Very true - meant to say "hardest hit so far" but didn't.

add nate solder to the growing list... given the health concerns of his son, it surprised me it took this long for him to opt out

What an amazing position these guys are in. You can sit home and get paid $150k-$350k while the rest of your teammates are playing. Anyone that has played competitive sports will know these quitters won't be welcomed back by teammates a year from now unless you're a high risk individual.

Meanwhile, many Americans are anxious to actually get back to work just to make enough money to pay rent/mortgage and take care of their families.

I think that the "quitters" ARE high risk or have what they believe to be high risk family members.

That said do I share your concern for the many who have lost all or most income and decades of life savings, e.g. family restaurant owners.

.

I don't believe one cross word will be said to any player who opts out this year. And if you think otherwise you haven't been paying attention.

I'm not saying this in any type of way but if I'm a 7-8 year vet that has made some good $. Body most likely feeling it. Maybe you have some other $ coming in through real estate or endorsements. Yea I bet a bunch of guys are thinking a year off doesn't sound awful.

I don't blame them either when you look at how serious this is to certain people that get it. It's real.

Idk I definitely don't blame them even though I want to see them play. It's just sports.

Lou merloni on eei just said rb Damien Williams has told the chiefs that he will opt out this year.... No official statement or link yet

This is a really awkward situation for Solder and the Giants. His $13 million dead money limited how much cap room the Giants could save by cutting him this past March, but next year he’s going to have half as much dead money and be a year older after taking a year off. They’re going to cut him next March.

Solder's suitation is interesting.

Nate is 32 and having already earned $60 million plus he might decide he likes loafing around with the kids and choose to retire.

On the other hand 24 hours a day hanging with the wife might make him gladly play out the last 2 years of his deal provided the Giants haven't found a younger, cheaper replacement.

And his job will be gone next year when Clyde Edwards-Helaire takes over. Hilarious.

I'm sure that he is aware of that, but I don't care either way. What is more important to me is that this is big hit to their RB depth. The Chiefs obviously still have plenty of talent on offense and CEH could be a monster for them but will he be as reliable as Williams at picking up blitzes, bc teams will definitely test him early and often. He was solid in this role at the college level but how will that translate versus professionals? Also, more likely than not, CEH will miss some time bc of injury or illness (COVID 19 is real) this year. Do they have the depth now to run their offense in the event of a multi-week CEH absence?

KC doesn't ask their RB's to do a lot of pass pro. Bottom 5 in the league. Plus he's good in that area. Reliable and thinks on his feet.
