Now Chung opts out

Belichick is playing 4D chess having 2 of his indispensable defenders out, Hightower and Chung, amid covid. Whoever wins the Superbowl will be last man standing. Just kidding on the whole 4D, pretty sure the Pats are very concerned right now

I don't worry about the 2020 season. I don't think there will be one, but if there is one, God bless every Patriot (and other player) who opts out. These guys have parents, grandparents, people in their lives with various vulnerabilities, etc., just like the rest of us.

They have the means not to roll those dice, who can blame them.

I do not blame players for their choices amid Covid-19. They know best their and their relatives health conditions and of course they have rights to give up playing this season. However this season seems to be very weird, in some way a bit unfair because of the players decisions although I truly respect them. And unfortunately I think this could be Hightower's last rodeo as a Patriots.

Chung is opting out because his wife is pregnant.

So this season is likely to NOT be a good one, considering all thats going on, personnel losses and our schedule. Everyone remember "humble pie"? This likely to be crappy season sets up a great draft, weak schedule and a year to digest the departure of the GOAT. Just trying to be real about this season but still optimistic about the future of the team.

Chung mentioned in an interview this morning that in addition to his pregnant girlfriend, he also did this out of concern for his son who has asthma and his father who is 75 years old.

Why do you think that? The last year of his contract tolls into next season, his weight loss seemed to help him stay healthy & nimble...I think (hope?) that he plays here in 2021 and then looks at contract offers thereafter...

Do not get me wrong but there a few concerns about Hightower. His absence during that season does not help him to be better on the field . Additionally Winovich,Jennings,Uche and Bentley ( or maybe another LB taken as a FA ) will want to prove their valuation. Do not forget Hightower's last season salary cap is 8 mln. $. If the young men plays well it might be an opportunity to say to Donta'e good bye. Like I said there are too many question marks and believe me I hope I am wrong.

Patrick Chung: I want to play football, but family came first - ProFootballTalk

"I have a girlfriend that’s pregnant, a baby girl coming soon, my son has a little asthma, my dad is 75 years old. I just felt like this was the best decision for my family to keep everyone safe. I don’t think it’s fair to them. So I decided to do that. It’s not over. It’s just postponed a little bit.”

Chung said he had a short call with head coach Bill Belichick to let him know his plans and that Belichick is “a very caring person” who understood why Chung made that choice.

lol But @XLIX who told me the NFL had this all wrapped up and did a great job!
Whuh huh? This is nothing more than discussing the technicalities of opting out.

Seriously... wtf point are you making here? BTW, putting words in my mouth only proves the bankruptcy of your argument. You can't respond to what I actually said, so you make something up and respond to your world of make believe. Weaksauce.

Lol yes nothing more than a floating deadline for players that teams likely assumed they would have only to opt out. All part of the NFL's master plan!

Yes, teams are going to have to make adjustments. Why is that a problem? Are you suggesting they not allow players the ability to opt out??

Lol move the goalposts all you want. You said what could the NFL have done that they didn't do? I said pretty much have done anything over the course of the last few months. You said big deal it is all wrapped up now so who cares? Here it is not all wrapped up. And for the record I hope every last player opts out.

OK now here's what was really said:

"They should have made the "opt out" date weeks ago" - 203Pat

"That also would have been unwise, and quite likely unfair to the players. I doubt the players would have accepted so early of an opt out date." - Me

There is no logical reason whatsoever why the League should have set an opt out deadline so early. That would have been grossly unfair to the players to make them decide so early what they will be doing. And if some teams have to make unanticipated roster adjustments in early August, then suck it up.

Curran realized how much of a dumbass he was and apologized pretty quickly. Still.. an absolute moronic take.
Very dumb take. I'm sure the 'Brady factor' does matter for other things, but not this. At least he didn't double down. Most of those reporters would ride that hot take all the way through afterwards.
