I don’t think he was even a lock for the roster. Especially since they drafted Dalton Keene in that H-back role.
Jakob Johnson baby

What a joke. He should be released.

Cannon may reportedly opt out too

Why the hell should he put his newborn in jeopardy to play a stupid game? Likewise all the blacks that have sickle cell, it is not worth it.

I’m not going to critique the players who choose to sit this season. I figure I’ll be in the minority on this board.

If Cannon opts out, I can understand that. The team might want to move on from him though as he's getting older

Do we receive any salary cap relief if Cannon opts-out of this season?

@Miguel is the best person to answer this.

My guess is that they would as the only salary he'll be getting is 300K (Cannon is definitely in the high risk category because of his previous cancer diagnosis).

Re-post from Early Cuts to 80 thread: Time again to place calls to the agents of the following: Charles Clay, Ben Braunecker, Ben Koyack, Jeff Swaim, David Morgan, Clive Walford & Luke Stocker...We need an experienced in-line/back-field blocker now...

Will Hastings was called back at least....

Stupid game? That's how he makes his money! He can live in a hotel or rent for a few months. He's leaving a lot of money on the table when the position he plays is pretty much extinct and lucky to even have a job. He's taking a massive gamble financially.

Guys like Cannon, Andrews and others with real health problems have a valid excuse.

And FYI, most of the NFL is at high risk.

What an age we live in. Folks go on tours of duty for many months overseas. Folks go on oil rigs for half a year. In past ages folks would be away from home for years.

let's be real. Some of these guys are making many millions for a few months work. They can do this for another 2-4 years maybe. Should they give up a couple of million so because they can't be away from their families for a few months. BTW, if we are talking about a spouse, surely she can be tested couple of times before spending time with husband in a place that doesn't endanger the elderly of the family.

While true, don’t discount the fact that hundreds of millions DON’T go on oil rigs or tours of duty because of the downside... so while « some do » that is hardly a reason for an NFL player to use as a reason to play...

If Cannon was wise with his $ (a rarity in the League, I fear) he can opt out and protect himself and live comfortably.

They get to make the choice. It is a free country and they can do what they want. I won’t criticize anyone for doing that. I may not think it is a financially smart decision but it is certainly one he has every right to make.

he is not leaving any money on the table. the contract rolls over to next year. He wants to spend the time with his family and not in a hotel room for 5 months. And if he takes a chance that is his prerogative. I want to be entertained on Sunday afternoons and I want the pats to win, but not at the price of asking someone to risk his family, rather than wait till next year.

I'm with you. These guys risk thier health for money I don't think we should ask them to risk thier families heath also.
