Sort of OT: MLB Covid outbreak- season might be in jeopardy

Honestly wondering, why is South Korea able to play baseball and Australia able to play full contact rugby but we may not be able to pull it off in the US?

Really curious, what are they doing differently that we should be (or vice versa)? Or is it something like 'climate differences' that make it more possible. I don't know.

Think of sports as rewards for countries with effective leadership and citizens who are capable of responsible collective action. Unfortunately, that's not the United States in 2020.

30 players on the taxi roster. Clean that clubhouse and LFG! We didn't give up after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!

MLB - worst run league in all of sports.

There aren’t? We haven’t even started the season yet
Crystal ball, if there is a season, it will end prematurely.

Because South Korea hasn't spent 2 months with countless riots - uh I mean <cough>peaceful<cough> protests - all across their country.

Oh yeah, it's the protests that's prevented a cogent national response to the virus. Thanks for your unique insight.
No, it is the protests that took numbers that were getting better and better all throughout May and reversed course. We had a 7-day rolling average of 32,000 cases per day in mid-April. That number declined to 20,000 cases per day by the end of May, but then the riots started. We are now at 65,000 cases per day, with cities still seeing rioting.

It would take a special type of fool not to see some cause and effect there.

The blamethrowers are still sending around the daily talking points.

It's not rocket surgery. Kid's sick? Keep him home from school or everyone gets sick.

Marlin's sick? Keep him home from baseball. Every team has sick players, and the incubation period is 3+ days? Stop playing the stoopit kid's game for fcks sake.

Same will happen in football.

For some reason it appears that cornhole is considered a socially distanced sport. We clearly need NFL cornhole teams

Bullcrap on about 10 counts.

1) Of all the mass gatherings, outdoor protests in masks are the most minimal configuration for spread. Much better way to spread a virus? Stand people next to each other without masks in an indoor arena, just for example. Or in a bar, or a pool party.

From those commies over at Forbes...

Research Determines Protests Did Not Cause Spike In Coronavirus Cases

Protests against systemic racism held in 300-plus U.S. cities following the death of George Floyd did not cause a significant increase in coronavirus infections, according to a team of economists who have published their findings in a 60-page paper released by the National Bureau of Economic Research; these somewhat surprising results are supported by Covid-19 testing data in many populous cities where demonstrations were held.

2) It would take a "special type of fool" to quote the number of cases per day "by the end of May," then add "but then the riots started." What else happened? OH YEAH, WE OPENED UP A BUNCH OF ECONOMIES WITHOUT MEETING GATING REQUIREMENTS. But you know, can't miss those memorial day beach trips/drink specials/etcetera.

3) we knew how to beat this. Other countries did it. We didn't. We didn't, and we didn't on purpose. And guys like you were prattling about it not being that bad.

This is one sick ****ing country, and it's going to get sicker in the fall.

I don't think we see football this year, and I DO think that voters will punish the relentless "cheerleaders" who botched the response, and even now are insistent on marching kids (all ages, all sizes) into congregate settings -- to kill some, but more significantly to kill teachers, parents, and grandparents.

You can't just pretend everyhing's going to be okay and have it be okay.

Well, that certainly explains the virus spread in all those southern states that haven't seen any protests.

Yup, I see you got your talking points and marching orders, and I omitted the parts where you were all-too-easily triggered.

Seriously... you'd look a lot less foolish if you simply admitted that you support the protests and feel they serve a greater good, but admit that it is textbook activity that we have been told we should avoid to contain the virus.

Uh, which Southern states haven't seen any protests??:confused:

I will drop the matter since I do not want to derail the thread further. You NPCs have a right to your obscene ignorance. Anyone who doesn't acknowledge this is textbook behavior we've all been told not to engage in is either a moron or simply has an agenda (or, most likely, all of the above).

Baseball will prove to some people that everyone needs to shut down, which includes sports, conventions, beaches and clubs.

yep. Unfortunately it’s the only way to control it.

Crystal ball, if there is a season, it will end prematurely.
That may end up being the case, but you seem to be rambling buzz words

I've been saying this constantly and what is happening with MLB just strengthens the point. Football will not be played.
Nor should it be.

They're not a country of selfish "Muh freedoms!!!" morons who won't distance or wear masks.

And you know what is worse? You want to strip people of their right to vote because they disagree with you. :D

not at all buddy, I don't give a **** who is voting in the USoA, you have to live with the consequences, not me:evil:

anyway it seems to work very well with Trump, everything is under control...
