Personally not surprised that Zuber and Hastings are gone that early but I know some will be.

Count me in the camp of people super surprised Bill elected to cut down to 80 right away. Figured he would value the extra 10 even if he had to keep them split up. But I guess he values team continuity and keeping everyone together more.

Interesting that both UDFA QBs are out. So it’s just Newton, Stidham, Hoyer and Kessler.

Funny...those are the 2 that I'm surprised were cut so early. This will be a strange year.

I was kind of looking forward to see what J'Mar Smith had to offer. I was hoping he would show enough to make the paractice squad.

Kessler is gone.

Kessler is gone.
Missed that! When did they cut Kessler?

edit: found it, now I remember - guess I had forgotten. So only 3 QBs for camp. IMO they’ll keep all 3 on the roster.

The amount of practice time is going to be heavily reduced. So I think it makes sense to cut down. There aren’t a lot of reps.

You wouldn’t have seen it anyway since camp will be no fans and there won’t be any preseason games.

No surprises. Have to figure Bill will extend some of the curiosity he does vets under these circumstances. If he knows there's nothing for you here, for w/e reason. He'll do the right thing and give you as much time to get a home somewhere else.

More football news is fun

PS expanded to 15 (edit: 16?) though. I'd be pretty surprised if neither of the QBs make it through.

Maybe, but wouldn’t you want to get a good look at them in camp if you wanted to keep them on your PS?

For sure. But then, reps kind of at a premium right now.

At all events, just feel crappy that covid is exacting a toll on the hopes and dreams of these young dudes.

I guess the Stidham security blanket card was rendered less valuable when Cam signed...

Could be nothing, but the cut all the way down to 80 might mean they don’t anticipate anybody opting out.

I hope Cannon opts out and we use the cap for Clowney or Beckham.

Doesnt sound like Clowney is particularly highly regarded in terms of setting the edge and availability during the week in Foxboro according to Lombardi. Certainly not at this price.

I get your main sentiment here. But something feels off about rooting for a guy to opt out when you know his motivations would be due to the fact that he’s had a previous history of life threatening illness. Just feel bad knowing he has to weigh out that kind of decision.

BB knows the QBs need as much practice as they can get, and the QB coach is better off working with a few QBs as possible, especially in this COVID situation. The receivers also benefit from developing chemistry with fewer QBs.

It is not surprising to me, especially with BB as the boss in the house.

Go Pats

The thing that surprises me is they guaranteed about $200K to the three WRs they just cut, but only $5K to the one they kept for now (Jeff Thomas).

In any case, it wouldn't surprise me if at least one of them (Hastings?) ended up on the PS as a result of those guarantees.

The lone UDFA WR standing with high round talent knows what is at stake.
