I wouldn’t be surprised if McDaniels just gives Cam 60-70% of the playbook to work with until he has time to fully be brought up to speed, with it being such a unique offseason with covid and all.

I think it will be a completely different look with Cam. One thing the coaching staff always does is play to the strengths of their players. Cam won’t be as risk averse as Tom. We’ll rely on our skill players to make plays rather than Tom to find the open guy. We’ll run a lot with our RBs being five or six players deep.

I guarantee we’ll see the RPO at least at intervals. Our coaches will protect players so they may try to get more out of the pocket. But they’ll balance that out with who the player actually is.

Cannot be more excited about Cam. Win or lose this will be a fun season. I was thinking 5-11 but now have greatly increased my expectation up to a SOLID 7-9.

Issa joke.

but props to the Pats, they got away with it and have the rings to prove it. More power to ya!

I'm fine with the joke but then you doubled down with the "they got away with it" crap, which would indicate that you believe that the Pats have been/are cheaters, which would indicate that haven't done unbiased research on the FACTS of the "scandals", which would indicate that you are among the millions of jealous Pats haters across the country who can't stomach the truth....that the Pats dynasty was build on talent (coaches and players), dedication, preparation, persistence, resilience, fitness, toughness, leadership and discipline.

that was quite snarky of me and for that I apologize

You can be assured that's exactly what he believes.

I mean, I don’t want to get into this because I’m sure it’s been discussed ad nauseam here, but are we pretending that spy gate didn’t happen.

Is this that which we do not discuss? Lol

This is a perfect example of how national sports media will take an out of context joke and turn it into a negative headline. Here’s the link from the original article. Pretty funny if you ask me. A look inside Panthers' huddle with 'Candid Cam' Newton

Direct quotes:

"I'm not the best playcaller," Newton said. "Calling a play shouldn't be a paragraph. [Brees] called a play and I was like, 'Nah.' Then I told Norv we're going to have to call a one-liner ... Panther. Tepper. Rivera. Something.

"I be in the huddle. I'm already tired. I ain't got time to be saying this that, the third, the third, the third, ready, ready, break. You only get so much time."

The topic came up as Newton talked about the return of Panthers Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen, who re-fractured his right foot in the season opener, for Sunday's Week 6 game at the Washington Redskins. Not only is Olsen a security blanket for Newton as a receiver, but he apparently helps the 2015 NFL MVP call plays.

"I call him the dictator in the huddle," Newton said. "I really have problems calling plays, even in Year 8. He just helps me."

Cam Newton not alone in saying 'calling a play shouldn't be a paragraph'

Nice

what a complete douchebag thread this is. OMFG this place is so far gone it is beyond help

Always happy to see fans from other teams offer their thoughts here. This has been a lively conversation.

Here are the ONLY facts that we should be dealing with when it comes to the possibility of having Cam as our QB for the up coming season.

1. He has been a quality starting NFL QB who occasionally aspires to brilliance.

2. He brings a wildly different set of skills than the QB we've had for the last 20 years.

3. A lynch pin of this historic run of excellence has been the ability of this coaching staff to fit their schemes to the talent of the players on the roster, rather than have the players have to fit the "scheme" the coaches want to run.

So basically I would suggest that ONLY the language (semantics) will remain the same. Whomever winds up the QB will find their offense built around THEIR skill set.

4. Cam Newton comes to us as damaged goods. Passed performance both good and bad really doesn't matter. Neither will predicting he will be healthy or will have his arm fall off in TC. It will be what it will be.

5. I'm old school, or just plain old, and would prefer my team's players go about their business in an understated professional manner. But that was then and this in now. Flamboyance is encouraged now whether I like it or not. All I ask is that the emotions be real. And from what I've read and seen, I believe what Cam does is real. So while I can understand some of us are hoping that somehow Bill will silence that flamboyance, I don't see it happening. Because Bill is a lot smarter than that.

All I require is that the player work hard. Support his teammates, and recognize that he is just one PART of any success that happens.

6. I'm disappointed I won't be able to go to TC this summer. It really would have been exciting to watch how this team would have been put together.

are YOU pretending Roger Goodell's first job was not with the NY Jets as an intern? Are you pretending you don't know that Leon Hess got Goodell the job in NFL Offices? Are you saying the 2006 league meeting to name a new commissioner wasn't deadlocked with some owners opposing the suggested lawyer candidate who was eminently qualified, until Mara and Rooney suggested THEIR pick, in collusion with the NY Jets owner, be Roger Goodell? The same Roger Goodell who is on record claiming to be a lawyer(2009),claiming graduating magna cum laude from Washinton& Jefferson when his record indicates a C minus cumulative over 4 years of a generic business degree? The same Roger Goodell claiming he was raised in western NY and is a Redskins fan when in FACT he went to Bronxville High School in EASTERN NY bordering Connecticut, where he was a three sport star (including football), a known bully and a NEW YORK JETS FAN who took his high school jock buddies to all the Jets home games because US Senator Daddy had a reserved box at the Meadowlands? You pretending THIS doesn't mean anything when it was GOODELL who destroyed the "tapes" the NFL "confiscated, denying the NEP any chance of proving they did nothing wrong? Are you going to continue to ignore the 5 BILLION POUND ELEPHANT in the room here? Deflategate seem to elude you down there in Carolina? Mike Kensil quitting his job, he held for 20 as HEAD of the NY Jets football operations to take a job in the shadows working as a catspaw for Roger Goodell? A CEO in the NFL quitting to work in obscurity to spring out on NATIONAL TV and scream "AHA!!!!! GOTCHA!!!!"? You believed THAT???????????
There is NO ONE ON PLANET EARTH IN MANKIND'S HISTORY WHO WOULD DO WHAT KENSIL DID....you deny THIS? Do YOU know why Kensil suddenly disappeared for TWO years to research NFL expansion in China? While Goodell promised gauged checks of footballs the next season that NEVER EVER TOOK PLACE THEN OR SINCE????
Are you PRETENDING to NOT KNOW THIS????? It's COMMON, RESEARCHED ,VALID KNOWLEDGE and obvious to even a profoundly ignorant sub-moron that there has been a league cabal aimed to derail the Patriots and Bill Belichick since the Goodell coup pulled by the old money scumbags Mara , Rooney and others in 2006.

I’m really excited about #3. Honestly for years I’ve wondered what Cam would look like with competent coaching, and now he’ll have the best of the best. Should be a fun ride.

This is quite impressive. Baxter ate the whole wheel of cheese impressive.
Tell me, what are your thoughts on the faked moon landing?

I'm sure you meant "linchpin". Using the other word is risky these days!

Obviously BB wouldn't expect Cam perform in the same manner as Tom but your point about "language" is spot on --- and that will be a big test for Cam, can he master the language?

Cam is healthy.

BB has obviously signed up some characters over the years but they were all business once the first ball was snapped. Nobody cares about Cam's off-field "flamboyance" but he's proven to be undisciplined and a poor decision maker as it goes to on-field behaviour --- and it's cost both him and his team. I do not believer BB will put up with that sort of thing in the same manner as Rivera did (Cam had more power w/in Panthers than Ron) --- the on-field part of Cam's "flamboyance" will have to change or he won't stick with BB & Patriots.

Cam is capable of working hard, but he's never been forced to do so.

The best thing that could possibly happen to Cam is for BB to coach him harder than he's ever coached any player before...and if Cam responds in the proper fashion the sky's the limit!

I expect Newton, IF he's healthy, to fit in quite nicely with McD and the offense. In one respect, there's going to be little pressure flowing from the stands since they'll be empty. Cam can play relaxed.
