Breaking: we have cap space after settling grievances

Not happening. He reportedly doesn't want to play for a belichick disciple (like Flores) after playing for BOB, so why would he want to play for belichick himself?
Because not wanting to play for Obrein has nothing to do with BB he's his own man and Cam attracts players.
It could happen if we want it to.
Also being coached by Mayo is attractive to him as well im sure.
I want to see NJoku and Clowney and that should win us the East.

According to the Houston media, it was the fact that Flores was a Belichick disciple that caused him to nix a trade to Miami. Translation - "I want to have fun."

Imagine landing Cam & Clowney in the summer.

He was the subject of one of my favorite "This is Sportscenter" commercials (plus the fart heard round the world), but Clayton hasn't had legit sources for more than a decade, if he ever did.

I haven’t followed Clowney. Is he still really good? Would he be worth signing?

He's good. Not what I would consider really good.
Is he worth signing? No. not at the price he wants, not at half the price he wants. He's got that fragile fred syndrome. Can't stay on the field.

Does this mean the Patriots recouped money from Hernandez’s estate? I believe all of the withheld money had already been accounted for, so all that’s left would be money they were repaid. I know everybody was working under the assumption that there wouldn’t be any money left to get back from Hernandez after legal fees.

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku is openly frustrated with the team and is looking for a new home. The former first-round pick has flashed his natural talent on several occasions, but he never managed to reach his ceiling with Cleveland. If traded, Njoku would carry a $1.7 million cap hit and would immediately be the best tight end on the roster for Week 1. Even with Cam Newton in town, this offense could still use more playmakers. Njoku is probably the best offensive weapon available, and he’d hardly cost anything to obtain.

How the New England Patriots Can Use Their New Cap Space

Unless teams are waiting to work him out and put him through a physical exam, I'm really surprised that nobody had signed Peters, despite his age (38). He was still very good last year. I know that there are some PFF non-believers on this site but he was their #6 rated OT last year.

If 2020 Cannon is anything like 2019 Cannon (I think/hope that injuries played a big role in his off year), the Pats may be better off with Peters at LT and Wynn at RT.

Njoku has low miles. Dude has only started 20 games in 3 years. Njoku will never realize his potential as a Brown on that 5hitshow of a football team. Beckam, Landry, Chubb and Kareem Hunt all want the ball yesterday. TE is an after thought.

I would take his 639 yards and 4 TDs today with what the Pats currently have at TE. If the NE rookie TEs blow up this season its only icing on the cake.

Peters is a physical freak. Look at his lateral quickness in this video and compare it to Newhouse. He's like Newhouse on 1.5x play mode (and that's being generous to Newhouse).

A Thuney extension would almost certainly reduce his 2020 cap hit, not inflate it.

Yes, but it also ensures that we get him locked up and thus gives him a lower cap nbr than tje
2021 FT.

Not sure if serious....
I doubt cap space in 2020 is the driving impediment to this deal. The cap hit of a big money contract is usually fairly low in year 1 and while I know the Patriots only had a couple hundred thousand available, I don't see this new space as significantly changing the dynamic with Thuney. As was already pointed out in this thread, a new deal for Thuney would probably have reduced his 2020 cap hit.

Serious about the raise for Cam (shrugs).

And a long term deal might not reduce Thuney's cap nbr by more than 2-3M, but we could structure it so that he gets a 10M roster bonus for 2020....and higher salaries on the back end of the contract with a low prorated signing bonus amount....thus allowing us to restructure Thuney's deal 3-4 years down the road when we need cap $$. Playing on the FT is a waste of 15M that we can't prorate and we will then need to deal with the rising OL market in 2021.

Extending Thuney does NOT require 2020 cap money. Such a transaction would result in considerable additional cap money availability.

Correct...could give us enough money to entice Clowney to take an one year prove it type of deal.

He played on the same high school and college team with Stephon Gilmore

Hey, Captain Stone, do you think if Brady knew we would have this Cap Space he wouldn't have bailed out from the Patriots? My position is that he would have said, "bye-bye Patriots."
I don't think this newly-found space would've made much if any difference regarding that particular situation, and it might not make much more of a difference in this right-now situation either...

NFL free agents 2020: Top 15 free agents remaining

Out of those 15, I would immediately contact the agents of, in no particular order:

DEs Clowney & Griffin; DE is an under-reported weakness here...Hasn't Bill shown interest in Clay Matthews in the past? He might be a cheaper option...

DT Snacks Harrison; Fat Thor is our "run stopper" ...'nuff sed...Marcel Darius is also available...

and OTs Beachum & Peters; RT is a very, Very big question mark right now, and although both of these guys have more experience at LT, they still might become our best option there, given the possible health/suckiness issues of Cannon & Cachoo...Cordy Glenn is also still available, as is old friend Adrian LaWaddle...

Unfortunately, the 2 positions besides RT where we need the most help - WR & TE - there is very little help forthcoming...At WR the first number I'd call would be to that of Jaron Brown's agent; and at TE it would be Charles Clay's...
