Breaking: we have cap space after settling grievances

Hey, Captain Stone, do you think if Brady knew we would have this Cap Space he wouldn't have bailed out from the Patriots? My position is that he would have said, "bye-bye Patriots."
If he knew we had this flexibility and Kraft and Belichick said they would draft a WR first round and then find/trade for another for about 5 million in free agency then he probably would have considered it.

I do think a huge issue was he didn’t want to finish out his career in the 2019 situation. If he thought we could put together something in 2020 and have a big reload in 2021 then he might have really considered the idea of finishing up here

Hardly the first guy is right, but let’s be real. Usually players that ask/demand trades are really good players whose performance have exceeded their contract. This guy has done squat except run a really fast 40 a few years ago.
In his first 2 years, he had about 1,000 yards and 8 TD's (before missing most of last year with injuries).

That 2 year stretch is not too shabby for a TE in Cleveland.

DT Snacks Harrison or Mike Daniels would be ideal; even DE Everson Griffen/Golden if the money works.

2016/2017 versions of Harrison and Daniels, sure. Not sure that either have much left in the tank.

Detroit Lions reportedly releasing veteran DT Snacks Harrison

Both A’Shawn Robinson and Mike Daniels are pending free agents after a disastrous campaign upfront.

After the season ended, Harrison admitted his mind was telling him he could still play while his body was sending him mixed signals. The veteran run-stuffer first brought up the idea of retirement shortly after the season finale against the Green Bay Packers in Detroit.

“Wasn’t able to ever get back to the form I’m used to, and I got too much pride, man,” he said in the locker room while trying to hold back tears. “I’ve been doing this too long. So, if I can’t be the player I’m used to being, my teammates deserve better, my family deserves better, the (Ford) family deserves better. I never cheated the game a day in my life.”

Sorry to break it to you but Belichick would still have said "Bye-bye Tommy" first.

Why the hell do you want to get Captain Stone's opinion about anything? It's the SAME negative, sarcastic, unfunny schtick EVERY time. "Another screw up by Billy....blah, blah, blah". Never brings anything interesting or new or useful to any discussion.

This is why we signed Cam Newton last week! :D

Sorry, Cam, we'd like to pay you more, but...

Good ol' BB, playing chess while others play checkers!

Hilarious. I totally believe they knew more cap space was coming but they told Cam he had to sign at the time for 0.55M minimum

Ah, I see. Thank you.

What Brady wanted or didn't want was irrelevant. In my opinion, BB didn't want him back, and it wasn't about their cap space, or lack thereof. Bill was ready to move on.

I think that’s a fair point and a big part of it. But as the question was posed, I think that money gets Brady to stay only under the assumption he is getting help with it

Not that I have watched a lot of Browns games but Njoku's main issue seem to be his inconsistent hands. I don't think this was ever a consistent issue for Ebron or Bennett.

As said in the Njoku thread.. if he can be had for a pick swap or a fifth round pick there is no harm at all at seeing whats there.

Ebron had frying pans for hands with the lions. I think they improved with the colts.

Extend James White, sign Delanie Walker and try to get something done with JC Jackson.

Well, I doubt there was a receiver out there that would sign for 5 mil that would have made any difference to Brady.

I agree with everything you said. I didn't realize that others thought as I do about Stone, thank you.

I don't think he would have been given a choice by BB to stay. BB had enough. My post wasn't a set up for this reply.

I think it was more mutual. I think Belichick was at the point where he viewed anything Brady did in the future as being on a time bomb where he would decline and he would only extend Brady on his terms year to year and Brady would only stay if he had a real commitment and the team made an effort to really make him feel welcomed

You should fix title then.
For some reason "thread tools" doesn't show up on my phone, but I finally got a chance to edit it with my laptop

I disagree with this mostly because I think the way to frame this is BB didn't want Brady back at the suggested price. Similarly, to what Cam did Brady could have made himself value by lowering the salary demands far enough.

Note that I am not saying Brady should have done it. If another team is willing to pay him those 25m and give him a more fun environment and offense then more power to him.

But ultimately all transactions with BB have to be seen through the angle of "value". This relentless calculation is also what Brady has been trying to outrun since he started to take below market deals.

Imagine landing Cam & Clowney in the summer.

Not happening. He reportedly doesn't want to play for a belichick disciple (like Flores) after playing for BOB, so why would he want to play for belichick himself?
