Pats make hype video for Cam Newton

One is white and the other is black.

This actually sets up a nice metric for progress regarding racism - when white sports culture and assumptions are no longer considered "normal" and everything else "different/abnormal/wrong." I suspect that will be one of the last blind spots to fall in the US.

What rebuild? Who is our QB to build around? We don't have one. We have 3 back ups because Bill did not draft anyone the last 3 seasons when Brady was 40, 41, 42 but Danny Etling and Jarret Stidham.
My feeling pre Cam was see what we have in Stidham. In all likelihood he isn't a viable starting NFL QB and if that is the case the team wins 4-5 games and is in the ballpark for a top 5 pick to get a QB. On the off chance he is the guy we have him on a cheap deal and are projected to have a ton of cap space next year.

Do you really believe Bill will spend it on a Qb? More likely he trades back and gets some more safeties.

I doubt Bill is paying big money for a QB unless a DeShaun Watson type randomly becomes available via trade.

I agree. Even then I am not sure he will do it. He truly believes his system will prevail no matter the QB.

The only difference in showmanship between Brady and Newton is that Brady's shows came after big plays in big games. Newton's didn't.
Cam literally went to a Super Bowl as the regular season MVP, I think he has had plenty of big plays and big games.

I'm too stupid to understand what you're trying to say.

Are we sure that Cam will be the starter or is this move designed to light a fire under Stidham?
It might be part of both. Cam has to show a deep understanding of the plays and that he's back to a top tier NFL level QB. Stidham might need the push as a young, inexperienced QB to show that he's grown since last year and developed into a starting level QB. Ultimately, it'll come down to who shows the most during camp (if there is a camp).

I'm super hyped to see Cam on the field for the Patriots. I've rarely seen any player like him. I loved watching him make ridiculous plays at Auburn, such as pulling off that incredible comeback against Bama. I'm excited to see what he does here!

I don't want to make this a race thing but you're making it pretty easy right now...you're actually looking for an angle to have a certain "hate" towards Cam and its really not working...do better

It's not a race thing. It's a generational thing.

Or we'll have to accept that generational bais exist.

He was an exciting guy to watch, hope he can return to form.

Its Still pretty crazy. 2 years ago if youd have told me we would sign josh gordon, Antonio Brown, and Cam Newton in this time id have never believed it.

Nah, I should have taken the time to explain.

There are certain behaviors in sports that are put forth as "normal" for certain situations, as well as definitions of what leadership looks like. Most of them have been passed on as traditions in each of the respective sports. But they have been shaped largely by white athletes and white coaches and white media members. And as @Tony2046 points out, older generations.

So along comes a younger generation of black athletes who lead, celebrate, suffer, and communicate differently, and when filtered through the lens of the standing traditions, often seen as "disruptive" or "self centered" and so forth.

I suspect it will be a while before this is commonly interpreted as "normal" and not judged as detrimental to sports. When that happens, it will be a sign that progress has been made.

WTF is the difference between him and Brady's showmanship??? Whenever their teammate makes a big play, they congratulate them...whenever they make an (individual) big play, they hype up the crowd...relax

Nonsense. You’re either being disingenuous or purposefully obtuse. Cams’s two signature celebrations were the Dab dance and the Superman celebration - both arguably self-centered or, at least, don’t scream team. Brady’s “let’s go” or first down celebration are the reverse.

So a "Dab" and "Superman" celebration after a first down or td is a problem???? Ok, this isn't about racism lol

Double down on disingenuousness - so typical. I pointed out the difference. You changed the discussion - you fu%#!#g lose.
