Jones was a game changer last year for the Chiefs defense on the way to the championship. If he sits out that’s a big downgrade to their defense and one year closer to having to pay Mahomes...

I don't understand why Mahomes would play another down without a new long term deal worth minimum 250 mil probably a lot more?

This reminds me of Pats haters circa 2003/04.

One guy grumbles about holding out, and fans act like the world is falling.

The big "wheel rattling" will happen when Mahomes becomes 30% of the salary pie rather than <5%.

What exactly can he do ?

As long as Mahomes is there they will be fine. That being said they can't pay everyone and they are lucky that Hill is such a repugnant human being and signed a lowball contract out of fear of getting booted from the league.

Especially with the dislocated knee being a reminder of how fragile an NFL career is. That thing is more serious than it was he is Teddy Bridgewater (healthwise)

I hope the Chiefs are forced to pay Mahomes $40 million per year.

Losing Jones would be tough.

Their defense became solid enough to hold its own down the stretch last year.

If he doesn’t play it’s back to being a liability.

They will UNLESS Mahomes wants to take a "hometown discount"....even then...Mahomes will be paid 30M a year at MINIMUM, IMO. 25M is the going rate for older QB's like Brady, Brees, and Rivers....the high end of the market has Cousins, Rodgers, Goff, Roethlisberger, Wilson, and a few others in the 35M range.

The key domino is Dak Prescott's deal....if the Cowboys do a deal.....Mahomes has to be paid more than Prescott UNLESS he takes less because he wants to win like Brady did for years.

Summer drinking hours? :)

If Mahomes wants to be paid for his talent in relation to the rest of the NFL QB's, then they will have to. The whole "take a discount to win" issue is so personal, none of us can know.

Mahomes should take less and decide where the other money that would’ve been paid to him go towards. He’ll make up for it with endorsement deals.

Mahomes has the opportunity to own the AFC for a long time.

They can't pay Jones for next year (for now) ...... because no one knows what the cap will be. So, he's stuck having to receive mega game checks only. Nothing up front - it's the guaranteed money and up front money that is at risk of being reduced. It's a tough time to be looking for a new contract.

Mahomes and Jones can take an injury insurance policy, a big one and wait this out. The team will need flexibility in the terms of each contract for next season.

He *just* won so i doubt he takes hometown discount

This situation with Jones might be impacted by that. While Mahomes' cap number is currently still low, the team certainly has to be budgeting for the future knowing they're looking at about $40 mil per year for him.

"Hold up Le'Veon. You're saying there's a way I too could be playing for the Jets??"

Would fit snugly into the Carlin bit on things you never hear people say.

KC is not going to repeat back to back.

You heard it here first. Crap is going to go wrong for them all season.

Pittsburgh, Baltimore and maybe NE will prevent another KC super bowl in the AFC. Seattle and Tampa will prevent in the NFC.

Bingo. The NFL gave them the last SB for all intents and purposes. Or at least greased the skids a bit. Gonna be tough to repeat or even win another one period.
