Patriots QB Newton’s message to everyone

This screams Dwight Howard before signing with the Lakers. The league slept on him, even though he’s working out like a mad man and looks jacked. He’s had an amazing season for my Lakers. Critics seriously thought the Lakers should’ve signed Jakim Noah over him...
I've wanted Dwight Howard on the Cs for the last few seasons...He's a big-time glass-eater, the kind of which has been missing from their roster for years...Still hoping that Time Lord can become that player for them...And my sympathies on your being a Fakers fan...

I figured Brady would lose a few supporters on here but the way a large portion of people have turned on him is insane to me. I honestly wonder if our fanbase is dumber than others.
I fell out of love with Brady off the field a few years over the TB12 biz. Never appreciated him wearing his own brand during press conferences rather than the teams gear. Then there's the crazy ripoff that some of the **** is that he sells. I fell out of love with him on the field last year. Neither one of these things is egregious in any way, but let's just say it will be easy to root against him when NE plays TB. I'll wait till he retires to break out the highlights of the dynasty and fawn over all the years that he was the hero of my sports life.

Howard had an amazing season for my Lakers and I see the same for Cam. Critics seriously thought the Lakers should’ve signed Jakim Noah over him.

There’s absolutely no excuse for other teams not competing for him. Pats get him for a $1M which could go to a measly $7.5M and this board is complaining?

This is a no brainer you do that deal. Other bad organizations will regret it.
Lol crickets? This has dominated ESPN and NFLN and there was a barrage of articles within an hour? It’s a former MVP and overall number 1 pick going to a top 3 market to replace the greatest player at his position. This “poor us” nonsense from the fanbase is nuts.

While I don’t fully agree with your post (I do think a lot of the TB12 stuff is snake oil salesmanesque) it’s at least a rational and coherent take on the Brady departure. I love the guy and will root for him against anyone but us but I do understand how he could turn off some of the fanbase. I just hate the “good riddance” attitude and the pearl clutching when he dared not to just fade away into the ether.

You are ignoring the fact when FA launched and through its first few weeks nobody could get physicals done due to COVID. Newton could never proof how healthy he is. A couple of carefully curated YouTube clips are meaningless when it comes to a proper NFL level physical.

Add in that he certainly wasn't as "gracious" with his contract demands early on and it is not difficult to see why there was barely any interest. In a league where Mariota gets 9M APY or Taylor gets 7.5M you can be sure that Newton would have been already signed if he didn't ask for a bunch more initially.

It was a perfect storm of things that put the Pats into a position to grab a player like him at a bonkers price.

Absolutely re TB12 stuff. For me it started with “17 points?? Haw haw haw. That’s it? LOL ok” How much of an arrogant d-bag do you have to be to even think of saying something like that before a Super Bowl. And the Bradyites want us to think this guy has no ego and it’s Belichick that is the egomaniac. Rofl.

Won’t be hard at all to cheer against him and his team.

I'll defend both to my grave and I much agree with your take that Brady's ego is way bigger than Bill's.

Imagine that, a high profile player marketing his own brand? Whether people think so or not he did get paid for below market value for a lot of years. I have no problem with him trying to capitalize to make money for himself. We see this with many star athletes in every sport, why is it a problem when he does it?

None of us should be defined by any given split second moment in our lives. Or, as someone put it even better, about US culture in general, "We need to stop defining people based on their worst moments."

And why do we feel this urgent need to judge him, anyway? Why not just sit back and enjoy what will be one of the more interesting seasons in terms of personnel in decades?

Great post, well said!

It is definitely a plague on our society in how people seem to be hell-bent on finding some failure or imperfection about someone and hammering them to death with it. There is a weird pleasure people seem to derive from it, and its going to be one of the main things that destroys us from within

Our fan base is certainly more spoiled/entitled

Nothing wrong with expecting great things from your team/FO/HC, especially since the resources and opportunities have been there to do great things...

I have no problems with TB selling his snake oil. If there are people stupid enough to buy it, Tommy is smart enough to sell it.

You’re right; only people of color face heavy criticism from the Boston media and fandom. White players never fave heavy scrutiny, I guess, unless your name is JD Drew, John Lackey, Johnny Damon, Bill Buckner, Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens, Adam Vinatieri, Phil Kessel, Dan Duquette, Jonathan Papelbon, Clay Buchholz...
Ted Williams

November 27, 2016. Recovered the fumble and threw a TD to Malcolm Mitchell.

Same game that he heroically plowed a running lane for Blount to get a first down.

Those Jets defenders had a perfect opportunity to put Brady in the hospital on that play where he was lead blocking. Their respect for Brady, and the fact that they're never playing for anything each season, is what kept Brady out of the hospital on that play lol

So Brady pissed you off twelve years ago??? Is he on your ignore list?

For all the praise we give Brady because unlike other QBs (cough Jimmy) he knows how to protect himself and know when to give up on a play this specific instances was such a braindead kneejerk decision.

Yeah we get it you are a tough player but as the QB you also have to be smart about when to take risks like that. A meaningless division game is not the place for that.

I thought it was super cheesy, especially since there was nothing for him to sell for many years. Fans wanted his hats or shirts, yet you couldn't find it anywhere. Missed opportunity for TB.

I had a bad feeling after he said that. Not to mention, his bad ankle injury.

No GM's wanted him. Yes, crickets.

It didn’t go over well with the Giants as you can imagine. Wouldn’t have either with guys like Rodney and Tedy if he was a Patriots opponent.

Just a d-bag thing to say and all because Brady’s fragile ego couldn’t handle Plax’s prediction.
