Welcome to The Patriots Newton!

At the absolute worst, he's a better backup than Hoyer, for shorter money than Hoyer.

I would be surprised if this holds up once the exact details of his contract come out. I would assume he has a big bonus for making the roster and then some NLTBE incentives structured around gameday activity and various passing metrics.

I doubt he ends up cheaper than Hoyer if he is still here come September.

Personally I think Newton is going to be released if he can't win the job and we go Stidham/Hoyer (in whatever order).

Too many butthurt fans here, not sure what their problems is.
If he sucks he will be cut.
If it works out then it’s good for the team.
His wardrobe choice is questionable, but if he performs I’ll be happy.
Guy hasn’t had off field issues.

BB is applying his “throw **** at wall and see what sticks” WR strategy of last several years to QB now. Except that has spectacularly failed for WRs. And will fail for QBs too. Instead of all the vet min contracts that we have to abandon and take cap hits when we cut people, perhaps we should have offered Brady more than the $23m we did and gotten that over the line.

So this is BB’s grand plan. Kick out Brady and roll with Newton just to win Coach of the Year and show the world he can still get 9 wins and maybe sneak into WC weekend for a one and done with a has-been.

If he thought Stidham had potential like JG I could understand but BB’s moves are looking more and more stupid everyday. We could have easily retained Brady in lieu of McCourty or one of our guards or myriad other way if we really wanted to. Instead we’re rolling with Stidham who he doesn’t believe in and frickin Newton who he’ll be forced to throw in on the first sign of wobble by Stidham. We’re in the same yo-yo horrible phase every other team without an elite QB finds itself in, switching between promising youngsters and has-been veterans waiting to catch lightning in a bottle.

I am grateful for all BB has accomplished for us over the years.

But as for the 2020 season is concerned, **** BB and his ego and stupidity. I am waiting to be disproved otherwise it will be a season long of “I told you so” posts.

Highly disappointed.
This is such a rediculous take. If BB could get a younger TB12 we wouldn't be here. Could he or should he have kept going with the elder TB12 maybe/probably but that's not the reality we are in. Brady aside no reason you can't have both a young development 3rd rder and an older vet type to try a replace him with and we aren't in the same yo-yo yet this is the first attempt and you have to trust BB to coach up the next guy and now he has 2 guys at different stages of their careers to compete nothing wrong with that.

I keep reading this but somehow nobody can actually point to some fact based analysis that shows he has a problem with running complex offenses. Hell, I am not even talking a scientific study but just something that would imply there being an issue.

On the other hand, people have posted enough breakdowns of him reading things correctly pre-snap, setting protections and whatnot..
Not questioning his intelligence, but rather his desire. He’s probably a pretty sharp guy.

Me too. This is a total embarrassment.

He gets a lot of flak for that awful scene in the SB and deservedly so. But for that one play you have many dozen others where he gets hit and keeps going or shakes multiple sure-fire sacks and still connects for a big third down.

I have no idea where this will go but given the price I think it is a gamble worth taking.Given how little they paid this is one of BB's best transactions ever.

He actually is quite a humble guy this BBs ego thing is a complete media fabrication.

It's often the projection of people with an inferiority complex. Whether that's beat guys (cough Bedard) or posters.

One thing I like about Cam, besides his physical abilities (when healthy), is that he likes to throw to TEs. He loved throwing to Greg Olsen. I still want Stidham to win the battle, but I'm not sure TE was a priority at Auburn for him as pass option. I really want to see the TE position become a priority for the Pats, the Pats offense is at it's best when we have pass catching TEs, opens up things for our WRs as well.

This offense just got....interesting to say the least. We cannot base the 2020 offense on the offense of former years with Brady behind center. All of these versatile moving parts (RBs, athletic OL, TEs, FBs, WRs with speed; assuming Thomas/Byrd stick) make the offense wildly unpredictable; even more so than the most versatile Brady offenses. Should be fun..

If it’s even 30% of the Moss trade, I’m in !

I don't really get the overdramatized Cam hate in the last couple of pages. It's fine to dislike Cam or whatever, but cancel the season? Swearing at BB?

Come on. I'm rooting for Cam if he becomes the starter. I want whatever makes our team the best it can be this season and if if that means signing Cam, so be it.

Agreed, whoever wins the QB battle, I'm rooting for 100%.

We got a recent former NFL MVP for bare minimum on an incentive-laden deal..

This is genius. Anyone who thinks otherwise is reacting off of pure emotion.

It destroys Stidhams rookie season.

I swear I am not giving him the benefit of the doubt on this play because he's a Pat; more that I've seen the play a handful more times recently now that he is one.

The SB 50 fumble he shied away from. Is there any chance he thought "Actually, it looks like the ball is going to get one more hop in the other direction, and if it doesn't Ware has me beat anyway so maybe I'll try and just get the jump on the next hop"? But Ware got to it before the next hop? That's the only thing other than being a coward I could think of went through his head. Has he actually explained what went thru his head there?

You're living in the past.

Yeah, against a retread QB instead of wanting to see Stidham in action to have a sense if QB is a priority in the 2021 draft.

This is the same way that the Broncoss played musical QBs trying to replace Elway.
