Cam is as athletically gifted Qb I've ever seen play. The talent is there as well let's just hope his health and his mind are in top shape. If so we can expect another SB contention season, big IF though.
« and his mind » has always been the problem. One or two years, he got by on athleticism. I don’t get the impression he cared about being great as much as he cares about looking great.

Does anyone expect Cam to hit the books ?

Will cheer for his success, but I expect very little. Hope to be proven very wrong.

I really think it's 50/50. It will all boil down to TC. This doesn't mean flat out it's Cams job to lose

i don’t .... I think newton is here cuz Stidham needs another year and he signed because he knows he will be on the field with a chance for another contract

Before this post, let me say I don't expect this to happen. Possibility? Maybe. With that said:

If Cam brings us to 11-5 and we reach the afccg while entire time, it appears Newton is healthy... Do we still roll with Stid in 2021 or would Cam be our qb going forward if we can somehow afford him?

I think Cam will be our starter if theres a season. I think Bill signed him because for reason you said. I am honestly excited. I was fine with Stid, but part of me did wonder if Stid was ready.

‎The GM Shuffle with Michael Lombardi and Adnan Virk: Buccaneers Potential, 2020 MVP Odds, Cam Newtown Landing Spots, Jacksonville Jaguars on Apple Podcasts

Lombardi is wrong as frequently as he is right and his arrogance and frequent self-promotion bothers me but sometimes he is spot-on and I always listen closely when he talks about the Pats.

He talks Newton and the Pats at 23:00 and again 24:00. Seems prescient, in retrospect (other than the cap space being a hindrance).

The thing with Lombardi is that he is really plugged in to the points where he hears about the crazy 30% of potential moves that are discussed internally and never materialise which makes him look silly sometimes.

e.g. He was the very first to report that Seattle was moving on from Sherman which came out of the blue for many.

Where he gets often in trouble is when he is not sharing inside information but gives his opinion like he did with Doug Pederson. This is where he become as hit and miss as any pundit.

That being said he really knows football and how things work so at least it all comes from an informed place. Obviously this doesn't mean he will be right all the time. But that's still a lot better than most media commentary which mostly knee-jerks or just deals with things on a surface level.

I believe we will go day 1 the best QB option we have got. If Newton has something left in the tank and can stay healthy I am in. If BB thinks Stid is ready I support him as well. It seems this season might be very experimental.

I'm not overly enthusiastic about this.

Never liked him or his game.

Yeah, I mean, if Stidham beats him out, which I don't think very many people think he could do at this point, that would really say something.

And if he doesn't, well, this year he'll have a MVP veteran QB who will actually speak to him.

I keep reading this but somehow nobody can actually point to some fact based analysis that shows he has a problem with running complex offenses. Hell, I am obviously not talking a scientific study but just something that would imply there being an issue. Anything ?

On the other hand, people have posted enough breakdowns of him reading things correctly pre-snap, setting protections and whatnot..

He will compete for the starting job, 1 year cap friendly deal - I like it.

I think the main part to be enthusiastic about is that its a low risk 1 year deal.

If things work out it is terrific value and makes the team instantly a lot better. If not we are exactly where we were a day ago minus the opportunity cost - which granted might be huge in a year where practice /camp snaps are an even bigger premium than in most other years.

At the absolute worst, he's a better backup than Hoyer, for shorter money than Hoyer.

So this is BB’s grand plan. Kick out Brady and roll with Newton just to win Coach of the Year and show the world he can still get 9 wins and maybe sneak into WC weekend for a one and done with a has-been.

If he thought Stidham had potential like JG I could understand but BB’s moves are looking more and more stupid everyday. We could have easily retained Brady in lieu of McCourty or one of our guards or myriad other way if we really wanted to. Instead we’re rolling with Stidham who he doesn’t believe in and frickin Newton who he’ll be forced to throw in on the first sign of wobble by Stidham. We’re in the same yo-yo horrible phase every other team without an elite QB finds itself in, switching between promising youngsters and has-been veterans waiting to catch lightning in a bottle.

I am grateful for all BB has accomplished for us over the years.

But as for the 2020 season is concerned, **** BB and his ego and stupidity. I am waiting to be disproved otherwise it will be a season long of “I told you so” posts.

Highly disappointed.

I get that Sherman wants to stick up for him but he knows better. This is just a totally situational thing. Cam has to demonstrate he got through injury issues in a year where getting physicals and workouts has been difficult due to a pandemic. Similarly, given the point of the calender and how most teams have already either a high paid QB or a recently drafted one there really was not much leverage to negotiate a much bigger deal.

Look at how Solder and Brown got paid after being put on display on the Pats. If Newton really plays up to his "transcendent talent" then he will cash in big time next year.

We were about $600k under the cap. Any word on other moves?

Complete fckin BS and nonsense move by BB. Brady is not worth $25m and Newton is worth $7.5m?! BB is high! High on his own ego and power trip.
