No shortage of those, unfortunately. The real concern is if this virus lingers? I mean, it's not just going to go away as it only needs one idiot to spread it.

The vaccine is looking less likely as the scientists say COVID has evolved and is a complicated virus to create a vaccine for. COVID-19 will still be around in 2021. Idiots will still be around too. When does the cuncel season stop? 2021? Beyond? I understand the concern, COVID is highly contagious and will spread, and vulnerable people have to be protected, but it looks like a vaccine and "herd immunity" are 5 to 10 years away. When does life start even with COVID lurking? Do we wait for a vaccine and cancel entertainment between now and then?

and your "side" believes that wearing masks stops transmission and everyone wearing those silly cloth masks are making a meaningful difference. Social distancing is effective, but masks are like 1o% effective for stopping the virus particles.. Way too many idiots think that wearing a mask makes everyone safe.
COVID cases on the rise! No vaccine!
how can any league keep it’s players safe?
any sports this year is probably a pipe dream,

So the answer is ignore the best strategies known for stopping this pandemic and play COVID roulette??
Social distancing is great, but it is not always possible.. those "silly masks" stop me from infecting other folks if I am positive, and for others they protect me from "infection" if the people I encounter are infectious... this is based on the best information available, and until other info is shown I will wear a mask in public.
None of what I believe is conjecture, it is based on the best info currently available..
The death of expertise is one of the biggest issues facing humanity, especially in the US. The fact that some lunatics think their gut feeling deserves as much space in a debate as that of experts and the scientific community is ludicrous. There are no two sides to any of this.
But it makes kinda sense. Combine the entitlement that comes from growing up without facing real adversity with a dangerous lack of empathy for people outside your tribe and this is what you get.
Of course most will feel tilted that someone suggests they didn't experience real adversity because all they know is just their cohort (or tribe) and can therefore only compare themselves to that. And maybe that is also where the lack of empathy comes from. Which to me just shows the real value of diversity and learning about the viewpoints of people that would usually be outside our circle. Everything becomes so much more nuanced if you are exposed to different angles.
You read The Death of Expertise by Tom Nichols? One of the best things I've read this year.
I haven't yet, but he has been one of the voices I added in the past year to my political twitter list. But yeah he is where my phrasing in the previous post came from. Can't wait to finish some other stuff I am reading and start his book.
I can't say I agree with all of his views but at the same time especially in times like right now he is a voice of reason that can't just be decried as part of the "liberal cabal". A flashback to times where you could actually disagree with people on viewpoints while still respecting the person.
