OT: Am I the only one who doesn't miss sports?

dont miss it at all. I got the drag strip so yea.

Congratulations and good luck on your recent addition...Babies: nothing better...

Cannibalism is an ugly secret to share on a light hearted football page....oh...wait...I just had a PFiVagina moment...sawree, Captain

Too bad commissioners, players, union reps and agents won't read this thread. I have spent more time turkey hunting in may and trout fishing than I have in years. I am trying to book my next fishing trip. If there's no football, that gives me more time to hunt.

I don't think any of these leagues will get their heads out of their collective asses until teams start folding and players jobs are lost. MLB is a great example. The majority don't care about the fans, other than our wallets. I would 100% miss football, but it wouldn't be the end of the world that I once thought it was.

I ran into the same thing when I dumped MLB. I got into chess and also my golf handicap went down.

Here's a game from my era, when The Bird brought life to MLB. Even us Red Sox fans liked the kid. After this game the Tiger fans wouldn't leave until he came out again.''

I think all professional sports leagues are about to shoot themsleves in the foot. People watch sports as an escape, and now these leagues think it is their job to "educate" thier fanbases. The NBA will most likley cease to exist soon, I really don't need a high school dropout telling me I'm not educated enough to understand something. I will be done with the NFL if they go through with their cop hating agenda.

Even NASCAR is bending the knee at the alter of these terrorists! They might be the first to go, talk about not knowing your audience!

I saw that the ESPYs were on last night, that used to be a fun night of entertainment, I didn't even think of putting it on because I knew just from the hosts, that it was going to be more left wing lunacy.

Nobody turns on a baseball game because they want to hear Bob Costa's political opinoins, nobody watches the NFL to see some guy champion killing cops. Here is a news flash, people turn on sports to watch sports and not get preached to! I would be saying the same thing if they were preaching right wing politics.

The funny thing is, even when I'm watching him cover a game, I'm not interested in what Costas has to say.

At some point, someone (an agent?) realized that athletes would be better off being treated as entertainers. That's when I think everything changed.

As for protests, I got a great email from a friend that should be read by all NYFL players. I was going to share it in this thread but it would be too volatile here.

Football is the only sport I closely follow so I really don't miss the other sports that much.

I've moved on to Marble League 2020.

I have kinda given up on MLB. Current Sox ownership blows with the prevailing winds far too much. They talk down to the fan base, and pander to the pink hats. Have a plan, execute it, and stick with it. One year they are cheap SOBs, the next year they spend like drunken sailors because they got killed in the press the year prior. In general, the game is so GD boring I can't stand it. I have never been much of an NBA fan, I am a casual Bruins fans. I love playoff hockey, but I am far from a student of the game. I don't have a lot invested, so I don't miss it much. Football will hurt come those late fall Sundays when the clocks are set back and it's not quite Christmas yet.

I don't miss sports right now, but if September rolls around and the season is cancelled I'll miss it. I'm on streaming burnout.

Good question.
US Football: yeah. I miss it already without the Training Camp hoopla, etc. and, since I'm more pessimistic than many out here about the likelihood of a "real" season this year, I'll really miss it on Saturdays and Sundays in the fall. But most of all, I'm already sad about not being able to go to my kid's HS games on Friday nights or Saturday mornings, even if a Division I scout would never set foot near one of his team's games. He was going to be starting QB this year...

Golf: funny, but yeah I miss zoning out to it on Thursday or Friday nights (replay) or Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The PGA and Champions Tour tournaments are a chance to watch what any of us who have tried to play the game know is an incredible level of play with the result seldom determined by more than one stroke. Some of the new shot-tracing technology is amazing.

MLB: my nick betrays me here, but I enjoyed MLB when games were a nice way to spend a sunny afternoon or warm evening with the end coming reliably in 2 1/2 hours, often less. I'll watch a competitive post-season series, but I've had little interest in the regular season in recent years and only start paying attention in September. I'll go to one or two games a year, but only if I can get a deal on seats where you can actually see how the pitcher is working the plate and pitching to different batters.

NHL: I grew up in Philadelphia, which didn't pay much attention to the game until the advent of Bobby Clarke. However, this is a sport in which I've gotten even more interested in recent years. Like Football, it's made for a wide screen TV and I really get into watching the playoffs.

Basketball: Yeah. I miss the NBA and felt the loss of March Madness. I live in NYC so there's not much to get excited about (beyond the hype over the Nets), but I really enjoy it when one of my kids finds a good game, all too often featuring Western Conference teams these days, but I'll always love the Celtics after living through the Bird years in Boston.

Soccer: I'm probably one of the few people who would regularly watch Premier League games or some of the European leagues, especially in Germany, Spain and Italy. So, I miss that.

I was at his start prior to that one - at Fenway Park on the 24th, a Thursday night during the first week of summer vacation, which meant that we were now allowed to attend weekday night events ...We sat in the RF bleachers, or maybe grandstands, to be closer to the Tigers' bullpen and watched the Bird warm up...He pitched a complete game as usual, the final out coming when, after his 3B Ellie Rodriguez made an error to place the tying run at home plate - and after the Bird then walked straight to him and told him not to worry he's got this - he strikes out Rico Petrocelli to end it...
Best game I attended that year...

I think we lose interest in general with sports as we get older. Back in the Big Bad Bruins days I'd be furious as I watched games, wanting to see one of the Bruins take off some opponent's head. In 1976 I was so crushed by the Dreith Theft that I can still feel it today. That would have been the Pats' 1st Lombardi.

As for the Globe and Saux owner, he showed his true colors when he had a reunion of the 2004 team and didn't invite Curt Schilling, one of the key players. That's about as petty as a man can get.

I don’t miss it

I really really miss hockey. Bruins were about to go on another Cup run possibly their last and cut short. Most frustration I have had over sports since it shut down.

I don't expect the NHL or NFL to finish but given 2020 and going 110 days or so now....it is what it is.

I just want another cup so ****** badly

Baseball? HA Passzzzzz

I'm guessing he wasn't invited because he's a horrible person ? Or maybe because he's a criminal who defrauded a company ?

Eskimo pies are no more.

Indian candy cant be far behind.

Wait....there's more!

The Redskins? Yet most Native Americans are more offended by the mascots and war hoops by a recent poll taken by liberal news organizations. It's the rich kid and college activist professor molded "pale faces" that are making the stink. Mascots and war hoops? Kansas City Chiefs....you are going down!!!! Florida Seminoles...et.tu!

Buffalo Bills? How many guys named William are justly offended!!!! The Dallas Cowboys? Where are the LBGT marchers....Didn't you all see the epic Brokeback Mountain?

University of Washington and Washington State are nyet. Oregon Ducks and Michigan Wolverines, where's PETA. Washington and Lee University is really in the crapper. Columbus Ohio? wow. Jacksonville Florida...are you kidding? The Mississippi Rebels are now a racist group.....yea but what about UNLV? Gambling Rebels? Shouldn't the Rebels stick together? Lincoln Nebraska....pure racist. All episodes of the "Jeffersons" need to be removed from television archives now. Johnny Yuma as "The Rebel" him too. Every Rambler Rebel must be burned....right away!! (it was a car if you don't remember)....now what will we do about the Lincoln Continental that is systemic racist in both name and appeal to rich guys. Indian Motorcycles should be shamed right away......... Then there is Boston Mass. Where is the outrage? We savagely beat down the British Red Coats. Perhaps that is what the demonstrations are about in the UK?

Yes I do not miss sports. When sports became a political weapon I smelled a rat. In fact every day I miss the NFL less and Less. I don't like to be lectured by rich African American athletes or any other race color or creed even aliens telling me how bad they had it when my upbringing was perhaps less fortunate than their's from the onset. You have bullies in the NFL telling other players what they should not or should bow down to or believe.

If you want to witness the Star Spangled Banner before a sporting event, the athlete who we fund by watching say...YOU MUST..... watch us kneel and throw up our clenched fist ala Black Power, into the air as a fee for watching a sporting event. Seems fair to some.

A few "woke" examples are on the Patriots. That a way to go to pretend your social media justice warrior stuff has to be forced on us like we are children or too stupid to figure it out for ourselves......and oh by the way how dare us have our own opinions.

Kap and his pig socks and communist t shirt is now a hero. When can we erect his statue to take the place of those the thugs (sorry....activist freedom fighters) have removed with Kap's?

Baseball is boring. I can't identify with the NBA......something about Mr. Superstar NBA player saying we should lay off China (communism, oppression and all that we protest here) ....something else about paying his enormous salary. Why can't we march and riot to the NBA that there are not more short white, uncoordinated players in the League with Great Clips or better yet Sports Clips haircuts or worse and where are their Bentley's and McLarens!!!!! No chaufers...no piece!!!

Soccer. The only thing exciting is the announcer when there is an actual goal in a game once in a while. The rest of the time young men in shorts run around a lot (see Brokeback Mountain)

NHL Beauty ehh! I will watch it upon occasion but every name now is a tongue twister. I knew how to pronounce the Plager brothers and Gordie Howe.......Hull, Orr even Teddy Green. Look how short their names were for crying out loud. The nicknames were classics....Gump, Pie, the Hammer, Tiger, the Rocket, Golden Jet etc. Even the French names were cool as most started with La....or Le

PGA ? I have my name and picture with a hash line going though on the blacklist of most local golf courses suggesting I am more of an "agricultural" golfer. Hitting the longest divot is my game, but even they hook. I think Kap and I should join up. He can kneel and I can wince.

I do watch NASCAR. At least I can drive. No physical requirements needed.....well glasses. NASCAR even hands out its own licenses. Driving Route 128 should qualify me for the pole but crazy moms in mini-vans have the best speed.....and in bad weather, their lap times go up!

Tennis? the grunts sound like the hospital labor room.

Back to football. NFL please make a choice. Are you a sport or a political network?

I am blessed to have options and pray for peace. I hope this does not go even worse as some who are evil reach for the rudder.
Hope to all of you.

That's one of the best posts I've read here. Thanks.

My favorite Gordie Howe story came from a play vs the Bruins. Howe was trying to get position in the slot and Don Awrey was trying to stop him. Awrey had Howe wrapped up from behind and just as the ref was about to call the penalty, Howe gave Awrey a quick elbow up under his chin. As Awrey was falling to the ground unconscious, the ref was pointing at him the whole way down. When he woke up he learned he was called for a penalty.

I was just noticing that Felger and Mazz have been taking a ton of vacay time since the summer began. I think the fall out from no sports has trickled down and if that means the talking heads are silenced, I could not be more over joyed. After all their hate spewing, nothing to spew about and that is sweet. LOL.

I don't miss the rest of them.
Sports was something I watched with my dad. We went to games with his union on a regular basis. It was a guy thing and I enjoyed the 'event' and the comradery. When I was very young, I soldered an earphone jack into my Mickey Mouse radio so I could listen to the Sox after my bedtime. My dad always knew about this, but kept it from my mother. It was one of our secrets.

He was never a hockey or basketball fan. Nevertheless, we saw the Bruins and the Whalers a couple times each every year. For me, the shine came off hockey in the mid-seventies. The Bruins lost me when they lost Orr, Esposito, and Vadnais.

Ironically, I lost interest in the Red Sox after they won the World Series. Not just because they won. I hated that they blew up that team and stopped watching when they fired Francona.

The Patriots have done a lot of things to lose my support. All the way back to Victor Kiam. And before. Schaefer Stadium was a urinal. Kraft->Parcells->Bledsoe-> ... well then Parcells abandoned the team and we got The Cheerleader and a collapse ... -> Belichick/Brady and all those wins -> all those 'gates' -> the owner is a POS -> the era of discontent.

The peak of my Patriots interest came in the 90s. We had an antenna at our new home and were able to pull in Maine and New York stations. A lot of friends spent blacked out Sundays at my home. Awesome parties. Pretty awful football.

I kind of lost interest in the NFL during the '-gates' era. After that I went from NFL Sunday/Monday to Patriots football. Then I started recording and chasing the games to avoid the politics and relentless ads. Ironically, I stopped watching altogether the summer I installed an antenna at my sister's camp in Ebeemee Township in Maine so that they could watch the Patriots. I spent a lot of the summer there in Maine and got home after the games were over. Habit broken. Last year, I watched one game. In reality, I was helping my BIL with a projector when the game came on.

I'd love to love the NFL again, but I do not expect that to happen. I think these people have always been jerks but I did not notice until they started having press conferences to explain.

2 questions

What do they talk about on WEEI and other sports radio now ???

Also for the Redskins point. I wonder if there is another name they could use that's respectful but still keep Native American heritage. The Chiefs and Braves and Seminoles are cool names, I get however the need to change the word Redskin.
