OT: Am I the only one who doesn't miss sports?

MMA and BJJ is still happening and those are two more sports I find far more compelling and valid than stick and ball sports. I’m personally loving seeing MMA as the king of ESPN right now.

No, you are not the only one. In fact, I hope the NFL doesn't play this season and I wouldn't watch any of the other sports except an occasional hockey game. The fun has gone out of the sports, big time. Televised sports jumped the shark when they started showing the sport on an insert as they aired a commercial. Don't need that level of commercialism damaging my mind.

I'm not clear on how the big four can pay salaries at their current rate with both COVID-19 and the economic downturn. If things get worse with people unable to pay rent, won't the leagues need to shutter some teams altogether to remain profitable -- or bleed less for the next two years?

For leagues with Real salary caps - NFL & NHL - then it should be a simple matter of scaling back salaries by the % of revenue lost; for leagues with no or Fake caps - MLB & NaziBawlAss - they"ll have to go begging to the inmates for relief...

Football and Hockey are my favorites with MLB way behind those 2. Never watch the NBA. When I was a kid, especially early 1970's, basketball was huge in my life, but I became a hockey fanatic in the late 1970's, and the NBA fell by the wayside in my life. Football and Hockey are my 1 & 1A, though really equal in my life. I missed hockey once the season was suspended. I find it interesting that the NHL, NFL and MLB are all coming back around the same time. July 28th for NFL training camps, July 24th for MLB, and NHL playoffs July 30th.

I really do miss sports, it's a major part of my life, I just enjoy it immensely. I've been watching a lot of old games on YouTube, some full games, some highlights. But yeah, it's very weird to me not getting score updates on my phone.

I'll be happy when sports comes back, but I am still concerned about the virus when it comes to sports. For instance, the NHL, the logistics of starting the playoffs, if one player gets the virus, they have to shut down the whole team for 2 weeks, because the team, trainers, coaches have all been exposed to that player. Doesn't make sense to me to come back. As much as I miss hockey, I think they should've shut down the season and start up again for the 2020-21 season in October or November. A decent amount of players tested, have tested positive already. This virus, which is just horrendous, just isn't going anywhere, 23 states are seeing their numbers going up.

NaziBawlAss ? Interesting.

Let's put football aside because they haven't been affected by the pandemic as much as the other sports. But I don't miss the rest of them.

NBA - I was starting to take more of an interest in the C's but that interest has faded away and I don't think it will ever come back.
NHL - The B's looked like they were on a roll and at first I was annoyed by the NHL's proposed playoff format. Now I don't care.
MLB - I stopped watching many years ago but I started to go to some games recently with my son. I won't be returning.
PGA - I've been working on the driving range at the pro tourney in Norton since I retired (has it really been 12 years?!?) and I'm scheduled to work it again in August. I'm leaning toward not going back.

I know the saying is you don't know what you missed until it's gone, but that doesn't apply at all now. I'm finding out instead that I don't miss them.
Too bad commissioners, players, union reps and agents won't read this thread. I have spent more time turkey hunting in may and trout fishing than I have in years. I am trying to book my next fishing trip. If there's no football, that gives me more time to hunt.

I don't think any of these leagues will get their heads out of their collective asses until teams start folding and players jobs are lost. MLB is a great example. The majority don't care about the fans, other than our wallets. I would 100% miss football, but it wouldn't be the end of the world that I once thought it was.

They are not coming back this year and next year is in doubt as well.

never watched baseball outside of parties, bars or social gatherings where it was on in background... i find it to be incredibly boring to watch, even tho I played it for a good 7-8 years when i was younger

fun to play, painfully boring to watch

Now that I have rewatched about 50 classic NFL games (mostly Patriots-related) along with quite a few NBA games, I am starting to long for the live stuff. Imagine being a Lions fan instead of a Patriots fan. There would be no games worth re-watchng.

Last night I re-watched SB 51 AGAIN. Still amazing...

Miss the playoffs... We've seen so many conference finals

I think all professional sports leagues are about to shoot themsleves in the foot. People watch sports as an escape, and now these leagues think it is their job to "educate" thier fanbases. The NBA will most likley cease to exist soon, I really don't need a high school dropout telling me I'm not educated enough to understand something. I will be done with the NFL if they go through with their cop hating agenda.

Even NASCAR is bending the knee at the alter of these terrorists! They might be the first to go, talk about not knowing your audience!

I saw that the ESPYs were on last night, that used to be a fun night of entertainment, I didn't even think of putting it on because I knew just from the hosts, that it was going to be more left wing lunacy.

Nobody turns on a baseball game because they want to hear Bob Costa's political opinoins, nobody watches the NFL to see some guy champion killing cops. Here is a news flash, people turn on sports to watch sports and not get preached to! I would be saying the same thing if they were preaching right wing politics.

You should have seen it coming. NASCAR has been turning left for decades.

I definitely miss sports. But much less than I thought I would. Let's see if that holds up as the weather gets miserable in the winter though. Now at least there's all kinds of things to do outside with the family.

And I miss playing sports more than watching them. Basketball in particular. It's killing me to not be able to go to the university gym and play pick up on a regular basis (or at all). Totally sucks.

If there will be no Nfl i will really miss it...and at this point this could be an option...i will "accept" a shorter season better then nothing but i am prepared for all options...it is what it is

I miss sports tremendously overall...so disagree with you here. Love and miss Bruins and even the Sox.....not a huge Celts fan honestly. Love golf so am extremely happy to be watching PGA tour now.....and even though you are “putting football aside” ....i am praying for corona to subside or significantly decrease (for good of US and world health obviously)....so that Pro and college football teams will be able to play seasons......So for me....I MISS Sports and am bored with watching nfl and NHL replay games!!!!

I could care less if baseball ever comes back.

That means you want Baseball to return. I think you meant "I couldn't care less if baseball ever comes back". ;)

i know you were joking but NASCAR is really in trouble now, all the fans that were called racists, are pissed because the “noose” turned out to be a loop at the end of a rope pull to open the garage door that was been there for at least a year!

Once again, if racism is so rampant, why are all of these high profile cases turn out to be lies or hoaxes?

NASCAR and Bubba are holding onto the lie and it’s going to destroy them!

I really didn't think about it until reading this thread but I guess I really don't miss sports anywhere near as much as I thought I would. Maybe because the NFL hasn't missed any games or maybe because I have a 2 month old but it has been much easier to go without than I thought.

Congratulations and good luck on your recent addition...Babies: nothing better...
