Patriots villains

Tom Brady

There are vilians and there are idiots.

Suggs and Murderer to me were idiots. Every time they lost they had some kind of excuse and could never just own the loss. Talking trash and couldn’t back it up. Bart Scott, same way. Would gloat after a win or just hide in shame with a few potshots of disrespect afterwards.

The next villain

The 76 team remains my all time favorite. It was the first great Patriots team and was indeed robbed by Ben Dreith.

If you're going with the original villain ... The General Contractor who oversaw the construction of Schaeffer Stadium. Plumbing that could have flooded the team out, wiring that nearly electrocuted our coach. Construction that was 20 years out-dated upon completion.

Isn't a murderer by definition a villain?

Yeah it was done on the cheap.

But it was done. Kraft wasn't wrong in determining that he would do things the right way, which most often meant the opposite of the old ownership.

Seeing things from his perspective, it's understandable the decisions he's made. The Gestapo hired to handle stadium security when CMGI Field opened, for example, was unfortunate. But understandable. It is funny, how the Patriots used to be the league's problem by being ineptly run, falsely perceived as losers and on the brink of bankruptcy, and then remain the league's problem because the owner is too powerful and influential, and the team wins WAY too much.

But I really, really had fun going to games at the old stadium. I was just happy to be there and see the team. I wasn't there to complain.

And today, there's still things to complain about. Seats a mile away from the field, the more antiseptic atmosphere when tailgating, etc.

Ohio state

His name even sounds like a villain, like Dreith Vader or something
It sure ain't Ben Kenobi

Bernard Pollard for deliberately injuring brady and gronk.
John Tomase for being a lying gasbag.
Herr Goodell for using the Patriots, twice, to consolidate his power base.
Exponent for deliberately falsifying the scientific report.
Jim Harbaugh for being a whiny *****.

Good list.

I'm over 50, so...

Jack Tatum
Ben Drieth

Then it's...
Roger Goodell
Bernard Pollard

I tend to give the media a pass. They just say dumb chit to get clicks. Tomase was way off base on his initial report, I'm shocked he stayed in town. Cliff Kellerman falls into this category. Just a big mouth. All those guys who whined because they couldn't wrap their heads around getting beat by a team instead of a player... Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, Joey Porter (never ever ever ever, never ever never, get on our level) Shannon Sharpe... meh. They got beat and couldn't figure out why.

You could throw Suggs, Bart Scott and I think Rex Ryan on that list. But it's more like saying that Rex Ryan is the nail and the Pats are the hammer.

I loved the old setup, too. Dirt parking lots with grills everywhere - want to tailgate? Just do it! Loud, raucous crowd. "Tastes Great!" "Less Filling!" East-west side battles (quickly degenerating to something far more ... ummm ... colorful).

Who remembers the flying law mowers at half-time? Frisbee Dog? The vote on a new logo (some awful fall-color thing, IIRC). 1/2 gallon bucket of Sprite to start the game ... followed up by needing all of half-time to get through the lines to the troughs (and when you're 8, that 15 minutes is an eternity. Relativity has never had such a forceful example).

The man with all-natural snowshoes ... Good fullback, ST ace. Kind of reminded me of Robert Parish. Neither ever looked fast, but when the camera panned to the other end, Mosi was ready to make the play on kickoff coverage, and somehow the Chief was in the paint.

Shula
FredEx
Parcells after he went to the Jets
Lane Johnson

Tomase's report hurt the Patriots badly, and its something Patriot fans have had to continuously defend against since 2007 ... Cheating in the Super Bowl. I'm sorry, but he doesn't get a pass.
