OT: Am I the only one who doesn't miss sports?

Yes, I think you are :)

I sure wish the Bruins could have continued this year - we might have been going to a parade right around now.

My biggest disappointment is that my college basketball team in the reigning national champions and they have a really good team coming in to this year. They are one of the few bright lights in a college sports landscape that's dominated by fake "student" athletes and one-and-done mercenaries.

I'll miss NFL (don't think it'll be back this year) but really only caught the other 3 majors flicking around channels.

Here's what I'll miss more... you guys do realize that all staged television, from SNL to your favorite sitcom to movies, require people to be together, indoors, right? I mean, they could do it on soundstages w/no audience, but you're still looking at a nightmare scenario. I think we might be in reruns with no new movies soon. I don't know. We're not talking about it... Imma google that, figure it out.

It might be a whole year of having to talk to our families. ***** that!
I don't care for most movies made in the last ten years. I watch old movies, especially love film noir.

Hell yea I miss sports. Zoom calls about what everyone is watching on Netflix & about staying safe sucks. I follow MLB & NBA casually but would kill right now to get that back & shoot the breeze over a beer with friends.

Definitely watch at least S1 of Westworld (S1 is a masterpiece. 2 and 3 are meh.)

Of course I miss sports. How do you not miss NBA/NHL/NCAAB tourney?

I guarantee people will have a different opinion in a few months if football doesn't happen. Guarantee.

Idk maybe some grow into casual viewers as they get older or don't care that much now but yes I miss sports now and would be bs if there's no football.

Would be a shame to see the US taken out for a year + over C19. We'd crumble under a real attack.

Very interesting to me to see how much general apathy about sports has been expressed on this thread. I see it as an outgrowth of a larger trend many of us are on in general relative to our entertainment and information.

For me the interest in sports has been strong for as long as I can remember, and remains so but my way of consuming it has changed quite a bit over the past 15 years. Up till then, the sports page was the first thing I turned to daily and a good couple hours Sunday morning were devoted to consuming the Globe sports section, especially during college football season. I stopped subscribing at that point when I realized I can get all the facts and figures I was interested in online and that I wasn’t impressed with the acumen of the people reporting and commenting either in the papers or on the tube, I had access online to people who bring more insight and credibility. I still enjoy tuning in for the games, but now it’s usually accompanied by looking at things online, including (when I can stomach it) the game day threads here.

With the hiatus we’ve been in, I’ve found different things to entertain myself as we all have. I’m doing more serious reading and more puzzles and games, working more on the house and yard, gotten back to bicycling, etc. I suspect this is true for many of us.

Based on my interest level in the news now regarding the resumption of sports, I expect to pay less attention to sports for a while. However, when I finish the books and housework, get bored with the games and puzzles, etc., I have a feeling I will find myself gravitating back to it eventually especially if football resumes in the fall, especially if the Pats are a pleasant surprise.

I dont need to miss it, thank you Soccer

I watched the first episode of Westworld, S1. Was not taken with it, as I am tired of the oppression theme so prevalent in TV and movies today. For science fiction, I have liked The Expanse and the older series, Fringe. Viewed the first episode of DEVS this week.

Different strokes. The saying, not the sitcom.

For me S1 of \W/ was for all the marbles, how you get from nothing to something (in terms of consciousness.) That's why it's sucked ever since. Everybody does "the robots woke up oh noooooo." This is the first show that shows how they go from object to subject... and yeah in the process, of course it's a great show about objectification etc.

But the creators of it thought that setting that up was just the back story for a "better" robot uprising story... so I think they thought S2 and S3 were the "good stuff", while the good stuff was really what they thought the back story was (so far.)

I absolutely miss my mens softball team that I have played on for the past 19 years.
Watching sports? Meh.

Slow pitch softball was absolutely huge in the Boston area in the 80's-90's. When they'd have the Metro-Boston tourney there'd be 125 teams entered and the fields would be packed 5 deep with spectators/beer drinkers.

At the top level it became a home run hitting contest, even as they kept moving the fences out. I watched one game up in Peabody MA between a veteran team named Gartenhaus (perennial CT state champs) vs a young up-and-coming team named VIP Limo. VIP won the toss and you could see they were all excited. The first 8 batters for Gartenhaus hit homers and the game was well on it's way to a big blowout.

Don't miss basketball, do miss baseball and hockey. Thrilled euro soccer is back bc I'm a huge fan of the Bundesliga and European football in general. But most importantly I'm most excited bc my daughter can finally play and I can coach her in softball.

I coached youth baseball for 15 years when my son went through. Once I stayed after he left I was hooked. It was a very enjoyable experience and I learned a whole lot about kids and teaching baseball.

Now for a little advice. Don't let your daughter throw a ball the way we used to describe as "throwing like a girl." They need to throw a ball with their elbow at least as high as their shoulder.

If you need any help with anything let me know. I have a ton of useful stuff here.

I miss it a lot. I’m tired of Netflix, etc. and would like some live sports to watch.

I miss reading about sports as much if not more. All the current news is just horrible.

The gamblers and bookies have taken a huge hit. Once in a while I'll swing by the gambling thread here to see how they're doing.

The only one of the "big 4" that currently interests me to any real level is hockey. I have no interest in watching wokesports, and I've been (happily) boycotting MLB since they took away the World Series. If baseball, basketball and football were to all fold up permanently, I'd probably breathe a sigh of relief.

I enjoyed hockey but I'd have trouble following the puck

Leave the obviously political ******** out of it. That's not difficult to do. If you can't do it, stop posting here, and go find a political forum.

If you find one give me a shout out.

I'm with you all. Baseball was just something to have on the radio in the background occasionally when doing chores; audiobooks have picked up the slack. And I actually skipped the whole NFL draft season this year, after decades of it being a huge focus of mine. I found I just couldn't care and had more important things to think about.

Looking ahead, what I'm most sad about is the likely absence of college games (or at least live fans), not because I watch but because one of my kids helps plan the halftime shows for her college marching band and will really miss that.

The sports leagues are in trouble when this is the response on a sports fan forum.

I've been surprised by the negativity here. I thought I was the only one who felt this way.

Btw, can your daughter try something like this? Incredible.
