Super Bowl XLIX Tonight On NBCSN

That Seahawks team was so easy to hate. By the Super Bowl everyone alive had enough of them running their mouths talking smack. People forget that by XLIX they were more hated by sports fans at large than the Patriots, who hadn't won a title in 10 years and didn't act like jackasses on the field every week.

Remember Sherman going U MAD BRO? to Brady in 2012 after the Seahawks pulled out a 24-23 squeaker? You know the Patriots did. Crushing their souls was absolutely DELIGHTFUL.

e: I will say this, in a weird way I feel like the 2014 team underachieved a little, and not just because of the 2-2 start. On paper the roster was definitely more loaded than the 2016 team, but the 2016 team just ran like a well-oiled machine even without Gronk (until the first half of LI, anyway...) while the 2014 team always felt like it was more up and down.

According to Sherman, the reason he went after Brady after the game was because Brady was talking a lot of s*** during the game (which I believe as Brady is a notorious trash talker). Brady was calling their D pretenders or something like that.

And Brady was handling them pretty well until he and Welker messed up that play that resulted in an Earl Thomas INT which would've put the Pats in a 1st and goal up 20-10.

Glad Brady got revenge in 2014.

"The Butler Did It!" is right there but it never really caught on.
I bought a long-sleeve tee on Ebay with that phrase on the front and an image of the pick on the back...some of the best $25 I've spent...

?: what happens rule-wise if Malcolm goes down in the end zone instead of coming out a few steps?
It depends on the way the refs rule on it...

If the ball was caught on the goal line, and moved into the field of play by butler, and he is forced into the end zone, it's a safety

If it's caught and downed in the end zone, it's a touchback

If it's caught on the goalline and the impetus of the tackle brings him down in the end zone, it depends on a ruling buttbut it should be a touchback...

All depends on the position of the ball at the time of the catch

If I can bother you a second longer, which of either the safety, the touchback or 1st and 10 at the 2 closes out the game the best? I.e., who retains possession of the ball after the interception in the first two cases? Or, was coming out the best way to ensure a win?

That was THE greatest play I’ve seen in my 61 years on earth!
Greatest defensive play in Super Bowl history (I loved Malcom Butler). I was in complete shock when it happened. Didn't go to sleep until 3:45 am after that Super Bowl (always take the day off after a Patriot's SB). Was watching all the sports channels to see the highlights over and over, was so amped up.

Same thing 2 years later. Up all night and morning watching the sports shows. After a Pat's SB win, the feeling of joy doesn't end for a long time, even love having the 32nd pick in the draft.

Incredible win for the Pats in SB XLIX, have watched that one dozens of times on YouTube. LOVE Collinsworth practically crying on live TV after Butler's INT.

Thanks!

The touchback would have ended the game. The Patriots would have had the ball at the 20, with 20 seconds left. Seattle had 1 time out, so two kneel downs and game over.

If it was a safety, Seattle would have gotten two points, and the Patriots would have had to kick the ball to them. They would have been trailing by 2, so, a long field goal could have won it for them

In a somewhat similar way, I've wondered where the ball would've been spotted had Tedy Bruschi and not Jeff Saturday recovered the fumble by Dominic Rhodes at the Pats' goal line during the 2006 AFCC...I'll always believe that a pre-stroke Tedy reacts just a split second more quickly and tears it away from that feckin Clots OLman...

Edit: replaced Joseph Addai with Rhodes.

Dominic Rhodes fumbled that ball... It woulda been 1st and 10 at the 20 ... What coulda been...
