Patriots have been in contact with Cam Newton....

Newton will sign soon.

Can’t wait to see the boards reaction.

Handing the keys to Stidum without any competition is bizarre.

I am pumped about Stiddy taking over....BUT:

- Both guys played at Auburn.

- Both beat Alabama.

- One won a National Championship.

- One has 6-7 years of experience as a starter and the other only has 4-5 reps in a live NFL game.

- One has been to the Superbowl.

- One has been a league MVP.

The only issues I see with Cam are:

a.) $$$$$: We have no money...unless we restructure Thuney and a few others.

b.) Is Cam even healthy enough to regain his MVP form?

c.) Would we need to change the offense dramatically? I am not so sure as we are more of a running based offense now and Cam would only help that.

In short, I would not be opposed to it....but I'd rather roll with Stiddy and see what we got.

I think that is too high a bar. We don't need MVP Cam we need better than Stidham.

We don't even know what Stidham is right now. For all we know he's fantastic. I just want someone who can step in and keep things going if Stidham gets hurt or needs a week or 2 off.

One would think we had some immunity anyway, since we drafted Jacoby Brissett not so very long ago and put him in games.

Besides, race quotas are racism anyway. Always promote based purely on merit.

Nobody's talking about instituting a quota.

It's a matter of noticing you have a 100% (or close) quota going the other way, and going "hmmm."

Of course, as our local racists will be thrilled to read ... somebody should figure out whether we should expect the representation among receivers that we see on the field, based on something like 15% representation in society for African Americans.

I mean, that really needs splainin'. Anybody woker than me want to help me out?

The Patriots signed a black QB. J'Mar Smith is on our roster and I bet he sticks on the practice squad this year and might replace Hoyer next year.

Is that what people are talking about? Or did I miss the point?

If Cam is healthy he’s a great fit for the makeup of this team. He can extend plays in a way this team could desperately use and he will make defenses commit to the possibility of him breaking out for a run. For a team with a lot of offensive question marks in the passing Corp, that could be invaluable.

And regardless the smart money says he’s likely leagues about Hoyer and Stidham.

A healthy cam with our defense feels like a guaranteed playoff berth. That is all you can ask for.

Really? That’s a bold statement. I’m not seeing anything remotely close to a guaranteed playoff berth.

You’re taking a guy with a career completion percentage in the 50s and a losing record in 6/9 seasons, and you’re adding him to a piss poor group of skill position players—arguably bottom 5 in the league.

Oh, and you’re likely paying him something in the 10m dollar range, give or take a couple/few million, which may as well be eleventy-zillion dollars to the NEP.

This is my concern, aside from all of the political goodness or badness, how would you pay him?? Doubt if he would settle to the league minimum... the Pats have <$2 million in cap space.

If Stidham is not the answer, doubt that a career QB with an 86 QB rating will be the solution.

Your other option is Hoyer who is worse as a passer and can’t run either or Stidham who is a total unknown with all the smart money saying he’s extremely unlikely to be as good as Cam

Not BBs style to sign Newton because he creates a QB controversy.

BB handled Brady/Bledsoe perfectly.

You play Stidham at least 8 games to see him under regular season NFL pressure.

We are so gonna kick Alabama's butt this year.

I think that is too high a bar. We don't need MVP Cam we need better than Stidham.

I believe:

MVP Cam > Stidham

And

Broken shoulder/oft injured Cam = Stidham

Seems to me cutting Brady loose and moving on means that Bill is rebuilding a new offense around a young, energetic QB. A Cam Newton signing is counterintuitive IMO.

Stidum is the luckiest QB in the NFL right now only having to compete against Hoyer of all people.

You really have to play bad for Hoyer to beat you out.

Nobody's talking about instituting a quota.

It's a matter of noticing you have a 100% (or close) quota going the other way, and going "hmmm."

The maximum number of quarterbacks on a football team is 4. That's the definition of a small sample size, and it's very possible that a minority will be underrepresented simply due to statistical noise.

Besides, it's pretty well known that coaches at lower levels tend to steer black players towards other positions than QB, especially running back, WR, and defensive positions, while white players are generally steered somewhat more towards offensive line, tight end and QB. Don't believe me, check the college rosters and count the number of white running backs and the number of black tight ends. It's pretty striking.

The institutional bias at the NCAA level can be overcome, such as TEs like OJ Howard and QBs like Cam Newton, but that certainly doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

So while there may be an issue I don't think it's an NFL issue, it's an NCAA issue because of the kind of casual typecasting you almost have to do as a college level talent scout with that many players to sort through.

And you are basing that Stidham isn’t good on??!!

Great post .Thank You
