NFL.COM Patriots set to collapse, One of worst 3 teams in the league

Brady in the past had the ability to elevate the talent around him, Brady last year no longer has that ability. He looked the part of an old aging QB.
Perhaps he will have more success in TB this year as he will just need to be a game manager and no carry the team. That is the context, Brady is old and well past his prime. That is why BB wanted to move to a run first Offensive LAST YEAR. Injuries to Devlin and the large number of OL injuries made that plan not work. In what can best be described as a desperation move he tried to switch to pass first, AB, Josh Gordon Blowing up and Sanu injury killed that idea.

Sadly he left throwing pick sixes in his last 2 games with the Patriots.
He had no one except Julian over the middle that could get any separation at all. I would get so jealous watching the KC reciever so wide open all over the field.

Because it’s devoid of all context. Brady had one of the worst if not the worst WR corps in the league

Sounds like you’re saying Brady couldn’t elevate the talent around him. I would have thought a GOAT should be able to do that.

I agree that’s what Bill wanted. I would have loved to see what would have happened if our run offense was healthy in 2019. Like I said before I would put that run game that took us to the championship in 2018 right up there with the Ravens last year. The league had no answer for it and it was absolute money in the red zone.

It's a terrible take even based on what you just said. The article said, "This season in Foxborough has 5-11 written all over it. If everything breaks right. I think the Jaguars, Patriots and Giants are the three worst teams in the NFL right now."

If Stidham is bad and they have key injuries, that's not everything "breaking right". That's a lot of things "breaking WRONG". And yeah, if they have that stuff happen, they're not going to be good.

But if everything breaks *right*.... Stidham is going to be good, the defense is going to be elite, Harry is going to take the leap, the OL will stay healthy and be excellent, the young TEs and defensive players will be good and productive....and if all that happens, this is a playoff team, not a 5-11 team.

not in his or most new yorkers view point.

He had worse talent in 206. HE wasn't what he used to be time wins in the end. BB tried to protect him last year injuries derailed the plan.

Do you know what his stats were in 2006? 24 TDs, 12 picks and 3,500 yards passing. He played better in 2019 with worse talent.

EDIT: Another point to make. In 2007 when his weapons were upgraded 50 TDs. That is what is in front of him in Tampa this year. A stacked team for him to light it up.

Colin's take:

He was also 30 back then not 43. I’d make a well informed guess that in 2020 he is a lot closer to last years numbers than he will be to 2007.

Jesus go back to 2006 to find worse talent. Not the strongest case to make that he did more with poor talent

He was 17th ranked lats year in DVOA and QBR. In 2006 he was 8th ranked in DVOA and 2nd in QBR.

Blame it all on his receivers if you like, but last year was by far Brady's worst year.

Pats improve over the course of the season

my big thing about Brady playing for the Bucs is that he neither has the OL or OL coach that will have the OL be prepared to understand how to protect Brady and provide the space that allows Brady to keep his eyes downfield.......I think he's going to get sacked......a lot

The Bucs interior OL is actually pretty good, so there's that. Question is whether Arians is going to stubbornly force him into 7 step drops and a long ball game like he usually does. If so, Brady won't make it through the season.

Therein lies the problem. We haven't seen Brady play outside the Pats system so it may work, it may not. Everything right now is clickbait headline and idle speculation. Heck, we don't know what Stidham is going to be, he could be magnificent or a flop.

2006>2019 and it’s not even close.

This season assuming a full 16-games happen has 5-11 written all over it. I'll bet a charitable donation with anyone on this board. Pats have less wins than the Bucs or whatever fun bet you can come up with.

1. FEWER wins.
2. I'll take that bet.

If you want to bet Pats vs. Bucs, I'm game, but given that the Bucs are seen by most as a 9 win team at worst, you aren't really putting yourself out there if you believe that the 2020 Pats have 5-11 written all over them.

Not one minute of football has been played yet

Hot take : Pats will have a winning season. I guarantee it.

. It stopped once brady became who he is and now its back again.

We know this how?

Not one minute of football has been played yet

There is only one person whose football analysis counts regarding the Pat's roster. He decided Brady would not be back.

I wonder how many 2nd round picks Bill would get with the 3rd pick overall. I'm guessing 3, we will be walking away with 3 DBs after a 5-11 season.

That being said, I hate to disappoint Belichick, but we won't have the 3rd overall pick. Guessing somewhere in the low 20's again.

The Chiefs are the favorites to win the superbowl at 6 to 1. They went 9-1 with Mahomes, Kelce, Hill & Watkins in the lineup. There one loss was 32-35 to the Titans.

They beat the Pats 23-16 with:
  • Ferentz at C
  • The refs botching a Gilmore TD
  • The refs botching a Harry TD
  • The pats offense averaging 4.5 yards per play (The Jets were 32nd for the season at 4.6, great effort at home by the O)

You can complain that the team is going to suck but it isn't true. They have a historic group of CBs that could improve as Jackson enters his 3rd season. The pass defense will keep them in most games even against the elite teams.

The upside? Who knows. Comes down to QB, WR & TE probably
