We woulda been screwed from 2008-2012 under that rule. I feel like Teams used to convert 3rd and 15+ with ease on us

Yeah 2008 was the last year of the First Dynasty defense, and things became real shaky in the backfield up until the Aqib Talib trade...

Right but the defense was already kinda lousy in 08. That’s why I don’t buy the talk that they were 16-0 if Brady was healthy.

They make the playoffs and have home field? Be hard to argue with that I would think. 2009 was a gongshow. Must of been a weird season for those of you guys with season tickets I think they did pretty well at home so still some good times and then they basically lost everything else.

Anyone in favor of this should just leave

Boo.

Adopt the XFL style kick off. Nothing else needs to change.

Maybe they could just do a spelling bee. I hear that's pretty safe.

This rule would favor elite teams with highly skilled passing QBs on those rare occasions when they are behind

e.g. Patrick Mahomes

Would hurt the Patriots without TB

We got Stid. I’m not worried.

Wouldn’t hurt us to defend it.

agreed, the offense would’ve still been great but that secondary was garbage after asante left, huge difference between 07 and 08. We had ellis hobbs as our #1 cb and the rest of the cbs were jags. Rodney got hurt early, that left merriweather and eugene Wilson at safety? Probably even worse than the 2011 secondary.

Here’s the problem. It’s late in the game. The other team who is losing finally just drive the ball down the field on an exausted defense late in the 4th to finally build a little traction. This defense that player well enough to have a lead now is being told “oh we aren’t getting the ball back, you now have to go back out on another offensive possession to stop a play and if you don’t a second offensive drive starts”.

Why? Not because of how the game works. Because a coach decided that’s what he wanted to do

This is a superior point than mine earlier in the thread (although mine is still pretty good). The tired defense factor! Well done.

Yeah 2009 was a weak-minded, gutless bunch lacking sufficient locker room leadership & talent after Vrabel, $eymour & Hobbs were traded, and all of Bruschi, Colvin, Izzo & Rodney Harrison left/retired...2-6 on the road (8-0 at home) demonstrated their collective lack of intestinal fortitude that season...
