Yeah I’m not sure what that means. I thought they kept the seed. Do 1-4 play a mini round robin against each other? Wouldn’t seem fair as B’s were already #1

I'll watch the Bruins games only. When and if they get eliminated then that's it for me. What a positively asinine idea, they're making MLB look like geniuses by comparison. Cancel the season already.

When I read the thread title I thought this was a permanent move. Already easy enough to make the playoffs in the NHL, but at least this is a step towards sports again.

Its a trash idea. Absolutely horrid. The good teams get to rot for 10-14 days while the team they will have to play knock the rust off and get acclimated to game speed.

It is. The good teams ie divison leaders get a “bye”. Which normally in the NHL wouldn’t hurt too much. In this scenario it is basically a death sentence. Gotta get that “insert crap team name here” a great chance at winning the Cup.

Under the usual 16-team format, all 3 NYC-area teams, plus Montreal, would be out of the POs in the Eastern conference, as would Chicago in the Western conference....Under this formal, ALL of those big-market teams except for the Exit 16W tenants are in the POs...

Notes from Bettman announcement:
24 teams. Top 12 per conference in win pct as of March 12
7 non playoff teams to lottery
Regular season over.
2 hub cities 1 for East and 1 for West. Cities TBA.
50 personnel per team limit
Formal “training camp” which won’t be earlier than July 1

Top 4 teams play each other for first round seeding in a round robin format. Winner of this “mini tournament” is the 1 seed and the seedings for 2-4 go by points with regular season tiebreakers. Regular season OT rules apply.

“Qualifying round” for the rest of the teams in each conference- best of 5 series.

After qualifying round - the first and second round best of 5 or 7 TBA
Conf final, cup final best of 7. Likely one of 2 hub cities

Draft lottery round 1... One draw each for pick round 1,2,3. If non qualifying club is selected they get that pick. If 3 slots not picked then round 2 will involve the teams that lose their qualifying round series. They will all have the same odds of winning the first round pick

Go-ahead for all of this obviously is not a guarantee.

Now watch the Bruins lose the 1-seed by a shootout

Guaranteed that the hub city for the east is not Boston...won't be a "neutral" site either...betcha it'll be DC, Tampa, Sh!tsdirt, Philthy, Toronto or...Montreal...

Absolutely ridiculous that the B's have to play for the 1 seed vs TB, Washington and Philly but better than nothing at all I guess.

If I were Charlie/Cam/Sweeney, and we're not given home ice throughout the Eastern conference POs, I would REFUSE to send the team ANYWHERE until justice is served.

Stokoe/Stern-Silver/Bettman all have special places reserved for them in Hell.
