Why does everyone have Mohaned Sanu as a lock to make this team? His high ankle sprain was so bad he needed surgery. However, he waited until March 3rd to have the surgery. I have heard that he is still in walking boot. Sanu could just as easily be a June 1st salary dump.

I'm not high on him, but it seems pretty clear that BB is.

I honestly think Gunner May have hard time making team....honestly there is a lot of competition coming in and he didn’t show a lot and was injured a lot last year...going to be interesting

I think Gunner will indeed have a hard time making the team, but he showed more than the vast majority of late round/UDFA slot guys we bring in every year who get hyped up. Much better than Berrios and T.J. Moe who had hundreds of summer Patsfans posts dedicated to their limitless potential. I'm guessing he'll be better than Hastings too.

I see a poor man's Edelman in Gunner based on his positional versatility. He's the perfect practice squad candidate.

gunner has to beat out Meyers

So, you would choose Gunner over Meyers?

Edelman, Sanu, Harry, Byrd,
It is hard to choose Gunner over Meyers. Meyers was a better player last year and also he was productive in college after switching position from QB to WR.

Gunner over Byrd at this point. Byrd had a breakout season (32 rec) last year after being in the league for several years. Byrd is a speedster but I think he is more of athlete than a football player. Gunner’s upside is more appealing to me.

Nobody is saying he is a lock but after BB said before the draft that he is essentially the equivalent of a second round pick he most likely is getting more rope from many than you are willing to give him.

Similarly he is out of the boot already as reported at the start of the week. Also this year there are no June 1st designations via the CBA as has been mentioned a couple times already.

Finally, he has zero guaranteed money on his deal so even if they were it would make no difference. Also there is no reason to cut him before the end of camp unless he asks for a release. They can find the missing money to sign Dugger essentially anywhere via restructure.

The most likely scenario is that Sanu will either get an extension or -- less likely -- take a pay cut in exchange for some guarantees. It is pretty doubtful he will go into the season on his current deal.

I am not sure I agree that both of them have a similar role. And even if they would I'd argue that Gunner will still need at least another season of development before he can play WR at NFL level.

As others have said he seems like the ideal candidate for the PS.

Isaiah Zuber makes this team. He’s not a midget being 6’o” and plays and times fast. Zuber can play inside or out, is an excellent route runner, catches the ball with his hands not his body, doesn’t have to be wide open to make the catch, and is a good punt and kick returner as well. I like him more than I did Jakobi Meyers going into training camp last year, and I liked Meyers a lot and thought he’d make the team.

I’ve watched a lot of video of Thomas. He’s fast and explosive, but I’ve not seen him catch anything but a screen or deep pass. Of course, that just might be how they used him at the U. I’m not saying he cannot be a useful player, but I don’t see him making the team out of camp like Zuber.

I brought it up before but 89 Blocks is an interesting watch. Jeff Thomas is featured alot. Here’s the trailer.

It's Gunner vs Byrd vs Jeff Thomas (& maybe Hastings), as P Premi noted earlier; Meyers is competing against Marquise Lee and that's about it, unless something weird happens with any of Edelman, Mo' Snuze & Kneal, Harry...If Meyers isn't good enough to win a seat inside this WR room, then either Byrd and Lee are having the TC of their lives, or so much for that 2nd year leap...

Gunner (along with Winovich) was also playing wedge buster on kickoffs -- kind of an unusual and undesirable role for a WR. If he hadn't blown himself up on punt returns, he was likely to buy it wedge busting. Hopefully Gunner comes back bigger and stronger this year. I really like his toughness, athleticism, and versatility. Be nice if he could make it through a season.

I love Thomas’ explosiveness and potential. It’s something we’ve lacked in this offense since Moss, but yes, Zuber is a much more polished WR.

I like Gunner but that fumble was a horrible sign. He has zero repeat zero margin for error if he wants to stay.

.

If Gunner makes the team, it will mean that the Patriots have assembled another
lousy group of wide receivers.

Yep...We already had the Worst WRs in the league when the season ended, and really didn't do a Feckin Thing to improve upon it...

Sorry, but that's just your negative nancy BS talking. Gunner is more than just a WR.. He was on kick coverage and punt returning as well. His making the team means he busted his ass and beat out others with his special teams play. Not his WR play. Not yet, anyways. OH.. And he didn't do half bad as a WR when forced into it last year..

Is it sad that all but a couple wide receivers on our roster are undrafted free agents? And one of the drafted ones is a seventh rounder!

Sadly, bb has cut more second round defensive backs than we have drafted wide receivers on our roster!!!

I think if Sanu was going to be gone they would have cut him while there was a robust FA market and replace him with a top WR on a first year cap hit around the 6.5 mill Sanu will be paid.

This is Belichick he will force him to redo his plan to be heavily incentived then cut him for a 6th safety from blue mountain state

Or, maybe, 4 weeks into TC, the Patriots realize Sanu is really no better than Harry or Meyers, and they decide not to spend $6.5 million for, at best, a 4th WR. You keep Lee instead at a much lower cost unless one of the UDFAs show enough promise to keep.
