Off the wall concept: Chase Winovich at fullback

Johnson showed some flashes last year before he got hurt. I'd like to see what he can do next year before Wink lines up back there.

I think this job is Vitale’s to lose now that Develin retired.

I would like to see Winovich the DE/ LB add about 15 - 20 lbs without losing his quickness.
I was probably looking too much into it, but I found it interesting while watching the Chase trying to find the best balls (or w/e it was called) video and Chase subtly mentions that he is trying to put on some weight. I’d love to see that happen as well. Add some strength to his base.

Long off-season.....

He is much, much, much more important to the defense, all things considered. I actually expect him to major leap this year. With KVN, Collins, Roberts leaving.. I think it gives him alot of opportunity to flex. He's a really good player.

I dunna know. Vitale needs to show he can block at an acceptable level for me to agree

OP certainly living up to his name with some of the started threads lately.

I think people are missing the point. He is not suggesting that Chase move positions on the current pats team...but rather, does he have the tools?

In a Parallel universe where he played FB instead of rush passer? Yes, I think he has the physical traits to do it. He’s an animal..

OP...please stop sniffing glue and get some fresh air

How about Sony Michel selling soda?

If we put Winovich at fullback then who’s going to play tight end?!?

I just have this hunch watching the guy play that his motor and energy would translate extremely well to the fullback position. Not based on anything other than watching him play on defense, but he seems intelligent, coachable, and very, very physical

It's probably not actually going to happen, but if it did, I have very little doubt that it would work, and not just work, but work brilliantly.
He'd probably be just like Elandon Roberts. Gets plenty of attention and praise just for playing a different position, but in reality wasn't effective.

In a parallel universe, James Orthwein moved the Pats to St. Louis and this board doesn't exist.

Vitale and Johnson are the fullbacks. If one gets hurt I expect TE Rashod Berry to move up to the 53 (that's if he makes it to the PS).

- Vitale is a quick lighter FB that has some receiving skills...we will need that
- Johnson is a 6'3" 255 LOAD
- Berry has had FB experience in college (he'll never make it as a TE in the NFL)

No reason for Winovich or anyone else to pull double-duty

EDIT: as an aside...it's been mentioned that Johnson is not exempt from counting as one of the 53 this year. Is he even signed for 2020 ?

He wasn't exempt last year, either. The exemption (which NE declined) was that he could be an 11th PS member at the cost of not being able to promote him to the 53.

This is the only thread I've started in the last 7 months\

Speaking of started threads, one of the privileges of starting a thread is selecting the title, which people should probably read more carefully. Most of the reactions I'm seeing so far seem to be reacting in shock and surprise that a thread where the first 4 words of the title are "Off the wall concept" is an off the wall concept.

That's more or less what I was going for. It's a long offseason, and I was more or less wondering how people think he'd do if he was a fullback because he seems like almost a prototype of that kind of player in some ways.

We need to cut the OP some slack. Remember, these are the simple folk. The common clay.

THIS is the kind of EPIC thread that makes the long off season tolerable.
