DRAFT Dalton Keene

A more accurate statement would be that they think they can get more value out of the pick by trading down than they can by using the higher pick.

For example, with the Chargers trade, they could easily have taken Dugger at 23, but they figured the likelihood they wouldn't get him at 37 was small enough to trade down and pick up 71 in the process.

Similarly, if you have 5 players more-or-less tied, and someone offers you a chance to trade down 3 spots, you know you're going to get at least one of your targets.
Kind of semantics.

They don’t trade down because they want a player in the slot but guess he will go later. They trade down based upon nor having a player they value in that slot.
I mean if you want to think that teams are ready to pick a player then say wait kiper has him rated a round later, let’s trade down because kipers always right and no one will take him, ok, but I disagree.

@ctpatsfan1 nails it in the above post.
What I bolded in your post is the opposite of what he is saying… It’s not “semantics.”

No it’s the same thing from a different angle.
Trading down because there is no one of value on the board and trading down because there will be more value later are the same thing.
The point remains that you do not have a player you feel is value at the slot and then trade down on a guess that he will still get there later. It simply doesn’t work that way.

I’m not sure Keene is going to be at FB very often. I’m of the belief that Vitale (who has receiving skills) and Johnson will handle those duties most of the time and Keene and Asiasi will mostly block LB and DB’s. IMO Keene and Asiasi will be on the field often in 2 TE sets as receivers playing small ball. I think that’s part of the reason no WR’s were drafted and also so Stidham can make more higher percentage throws while he gets more comfortable in the system.

179th...6th round...Exactly where he should've been taken...and Absolutely, Positively, NEVER ahead of Adam Trautman and Harrison Bryant...Same goes for Assyassy...
Don't you get tired of being so consistently wrong? I thought Jaylen Brown was gonna be out of the league by now?

I noticed the Pats traded up to draft Asiasi at pick 91 then the Pack quickly drafted their TE, Deguara, at 94.
Then the Pats traded up to get Keene at 101 followed quickly by the Saints trading up to take Trautman at 104.
Seems like maybe the Pats know what’s going on.
Asiasi and Deguara were 1- 2 in blocking ability.

Yeah. I think Belichick did a good job covering the position.
I don't think Keene is primarily going to be a fb, but I'm sure he'll play there some. We should see some 2te formations with him occassionaly in the backfield. The team is just better with a fb.

I agree that the team does better with a fullback.

Are you saying that we are cutting our two fullbacks? Or are you saying that we will sit our #1 FB and give Keene reps at fullback?

Never said that Jaylen Brown should be out of the league...only that he didn't deserve to be drafted #3 overall.

most mock drafts had Keene projected 6th round...ugh

He played some fb in college. But I think Vitale is our #1 fb.
What I was saying is I think we'll see a fair amount of 2 tes. I think sometimes
Keene will line up in the backfield.
No he will not be our primary fb. But the fact he has some experience there gives BB and Josh some flexibility. One more option to keep defenses guessing.
He could run or passblock, or release out of backfield as a receiving option.

What is it this guy supposedly does well?

Most mock drafts are by "experts" whose only credentials are their degree in journalism.

Heh. You said a lot worse stuff than that.

I think we're going to keep and use both Johnson and Vitale, but I also think the versatility is there to audible into a FB formation with 2 TE 0 FB packages.

He should be a fixture on special teams.

Tremendous work ethic and character. Every spring break he chose to get-up at 630am and go to his HS and train and teach HS football players.

A teammate that other players admire.

He will never be out worked or unprepared.

Plus he can find, kill, and cook a wild boar.
