Kyed: Team likes Stidham more than Garoppolo

I think JS is very JG like. In fact, when they asked him if he's similar to any NFL QB, he said JG.

I think based on what he's done at this point in his career, that is, hold a clipboard for Tom Brady, he's exactly right. If he succeeds, they'll stop asking the question. If he does not wow anybody, the answer will be "Brian Hoyer."

But seriously, can't we credit him with enough sense of humor that the most likely read of this is "I am most like JG, because I sat behind Tom Brady for a while, and right now that's all you know"?

No one has ever come out of the gate like Mahomes. Certainly not Brady. I think we'd all be delighted if JS had a year comparable to TB's rookie year. Or JG's first full year. i.e. a better than average starter pushing the top 10.

Russell Wilson did......

C'mon. Wilson was 3118 and 26 TD's -- not bad -- but Mahomes had 5097 yards and 50 TD's in his first year playing. Unreal.

Wilson started day 1......can't get any faster than that......Mahomes would not have thrown for that if he had Beast Mode behind him

I don't give a crap whether a QB starts as a rookie or not; that's usually out of their control. I was referring to first year production. What Mahomes did in his first year (2018) was incredible, 5097 yards and he set the freaking all time TD record. It's absurd to diminish that.

Wilson also rushed for almost 500 yards and he threw less than 400 passes. For comparison Brady threw 637 times that year.

he did nothing as a rookie = slower start no matter how you try to spin it into something else

And a 41 year Brady took him out at his place to end his season.

The best season always ends in a SB win which is why Brady's first year as a starter will never be topped only equaled assuming the QB that does win has the GWD in the SB.

I will say this for Stidham he appears to have BBs full confidence after just one year as a rookie. It is amazing to think that we did not go after any FA QB or draft a QB. I am pretty pumped to see what he can do.

No, Stidham didn't come out of a "top" program. He came from a program that grossly misused him. Malzahn’s offense didn't take advantage of Stidham's strengths. It was a bad fit for both.

I agree (and made the point myself) that Stidham was grossly misused at Auburn. Their coach, Gus Malzahn, is someone that tries to adapt his personnel to his system and is unable to adapt his system to his personnel (the way that someone like Josh or BB can). I agree that Malzahn's offense did not take advantage of Stidham's strengths.

That said: Stidham didn't come out of a top program? Are we really comparing a program like Auburn to something like Eastern Illinois where Garoppolo went? Cmon.

A national championship in 2011, another national championship appearance in 2014 (both with Malzahn as either coach or OC). Ranked in the preseason top 10 in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Last year was widely viewed at Auburn as a complete apocalyptic disaster when they fell to a 9-4 record, but even in that disaster season they finished 14th in the final college football polls.

This isn't a top college football program? Of course it is. However badly the system fit his strengths, Stidham has been tempered by a fanatical Auburn fan base with sky high expectations who fired a coach two years after he won a national championship in 2011. Stidham has been in the caldron playing against teams like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU and I would argue that is vastly better training than the type of training Garoppolo got at Eastern Illinois, it isn't even comparable.

I'm the one who started this dialogue between us about coming "fast out of the gate". You can absolutely say you disagree with what I was was saying but please don't tell me I'm twisting my own words. To be specific, no one in NFL history has had a first full year like Mahomes had, although Dan Marino came close in 1984 with 5084 yards and 48 TD's.

OK, let's list 12 and you pick the 7 that are right now NOT better than JG. i can argue for about 3, maybe 4, but then it gets tough.

Patrick Mahomes
Lamar Jackson
Russell Wilson
Drew Brees
Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Matt Ryan
Dak Prescott
Deshawn Watson
Matthew Stafford
Kirk Cousins
Ryan Tannehill

Tannehill
Cousins
Stafford
Prescott
Ryan
Rodgers
Jackson

Frankly, only Mahomes and Wilson are clearly better.

I meant that he felt his playing style is most similar to Jimmy G's, and I can see that. But yeah, the clip board thingy, I'm on board.

He didn't set the record. He tied Brady's old record. The current record is held by Peyton with 55 tds in 2013.

I just will be surprised if they start in September. I am expecting the second wave around then. I just dont see the travel, hotels and interaction around the U.S. during September/October time frame and the months following.
