It's like I don't even know you anymore. Who are you and what have you done with Septuagenarian Steve?
Whoa dude. Quinquagenarian.

They won’t. But, piggybacking on that ; I’ve never understand why people need to be seen in high esteem just because they died.

Bad people are not « made good » because they cease to live. Shula was an ___ hole.

My son would like to know why you're using his image as your avatar.

As for the topic of speaking ill of the dead, I'm not sure where that came from but it's been said that if you can't say anything nice about someone then don't say anything at all. In this case that will be difficult.

Someone posted here back in 2008 "Shula's Steakhouse...home of the $20 baked potato".

I always remebered that. And I never ate at a Shula's Steakhouse

Wowza ! Is he Joe Exotic’s campaign manager ?!
Congrats !

(I’ve never had a problem talking ill of the dead. Shula : bad person)

Don Shula: "I want them to say that he won within the rules."

So the fact that he left the tarp off the field prior to the Jets playoff game is not true? I'm sure there was nothing in the rule book about that one. Gotcha, Don.

Oh, wait a second:
''The only thing I know is the rules,'' Coach Walt Michaels said. ''I can't understand it.'' The constitution of the National Football League requires each team to have a tarpaulin available to protect a field from rain or snow.

Don Shula and the Dolphins went much further in rule-breaking than that.

During the Pats run at an undefeated season Shula claimed that because the Pats lost a 1st round pick and were fined they should have an asterisk if they go 19-0. He was the original Asterjerk.

Apparently Don forgot that before the Dolphins had their precious undefeated season they had been fined and lost a 1st round pick for cheating. That violation led directly to their 17-0 season.

I was going to say something respectful but then I saw this- even in his passing he took one last shot at BB.

**** him.

That is chutzpah. What many are too young to remember is that the Dolphins signed him while he was still under contract with the Colts and were forced to give up a first round draft pick for tampering, or cheating....

Some facts comparing BB and Shula;
---------------
Shula made the playoffs 19 of 33 years
BB made the playoffs 18 of his 25 years
-----
Shula's overall playoff record 19-17
BB's playoff record 31-12
----
Shula had 8 "one and dones" in the playoffs- Peytonesque
Beleichick has had 3 'one and dones'....

Unitas-Shula couldn’t win even one
Marino-Shula couldn’t win even one

Either he’s a massively overrated coach or Unitas and Marino were massive chokers.

Rip. Pretty good career. Loved BB’s response, so classy, a lot classier than average joes like me could put out there.

Will be remembered for 2 superbowls and losing to Joe Namath as well. For Patriot fans? Bitter old man who you could tell liked the praise a little too much, being called the greatest and towards the end felt a little threatened.

Funny. Because I was thinking to myself. "What other coach is overrated like Shula"? And Tony Dungy immediately sprung to mind. Four one and dones with stacked Colts rosters. Biggest achievement is being the first African American SB winning coach. That's nice. But it was against the Grossman led Bears in a rainstorm. Barely got by an inferior, and flu ridden, Pats team two weeks prior.

We all saw the resemblance right away when we saw the show. Our son had some fun with it.

As for Shula, there's a major difference between he and Bill. Shula didn't have to deal with jealousy and pettiness from another HC. Bill had Shula to deal with.

If Bill didn't spend so much time as a coach under Tuna Sh!t he would have passed Shula by now.

He always went out of his way to discredit Belichick,at times he was classless.

90 years old ? I was not thinking he had that age

For sure one of our major competitor but now it is only the respect time

Riposa in pace

It's a damn shame that he won't get to see Bill break his wins record
Not sure that it matters. BB has been universally recognized as the GOAT HC for quite some time and that is the part that irked Shula. I mean Shula had Marino who is routinely mentioned as one of the great QBs and never won anything with him and that was pre-cap, pre-FA. BB took a 6th round draft pick in the cap/FA era and lit the record books on fire. All Shula really could fall back on was the BB was a cheater. I believe that is why Shula was just so bitter the last 15 years. Just another great football person who was made a footnote in the history of the NFL because of BB.
