Don't put Parcells in the Patriots Hall of Fame.

When I hear/read "Bill Parcells/New England Patriots" it unearths a groundswell of great memories and a lot of negative energy.

Before he arrived the NEP were a pathetic laughingstock.

He was handed a bag of **** and created a Super Bowl contender. There is no universe in which I give Bobby Grier credit for anything. It was Tuna and Charley Armey that built the 1993-1996 NEP. I give Tuna and Armey full credit for laying the foundation for what Bill took to the next level. He made Patriots football fun again instead of barely tolerable and something you needed to endure.

With that said I will never, ever forgive him for his selfish ******** during the Super Bowl. Ever.

He is a HoF coach and team-builder but in no way shape or form should he be in the NEP HoF. A key tenant to the NEP HoF is loyalty and in the franchise's greatest moment, he actions were not pure.

Parcells helping to turn the culture around could be considered HOF worthy.

Tanking the SB more than cancels that out.

Screw tuna.

Parcells is an excellent coach and gm. He should not go in the patriots hall of fame

He's in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame, which makes sense. He is very deserving of that.

I'd rather the Patriots HOF puts in Antonio Brown before Parcells. At least Brown wanted to be here. Parcells can go **** himself.

He didn't prepare for the Superbowl and instead was talking to a division rival about becoming their head coach. He didn't ride home on the team plane with the team after he didn't prepare them for the Super Bowl and they lost. The day after the Super Bowl he left for a division rival. A few months later he stole our star player.

Thanks for putting us back on the map, but he doesn't deserve to be in the Pats' Hall of Fame. He's already in the NFL Hall of Fame. That's good enough for him.

What's the argument for Parcells to get in ahead of Raymond Berry?
Coach A) 48-39, (3-2 Playoffs)

Coach B) 27-21, (1-2 Playoffs)

Coach C) 32-32, (2-2 Playoffs)

1 of your steps didn't happen. Ironically, it's the step involving the subject of this thread.
You should have spelled out the step that didn't occur. Robert Kraft did not
hire Parcells. Robert Orthwein did to give the team some credibility.
Parcells had some good drafts to begin the rebuilding process.

There were 4 major steps from mediocrity to dynasty

1) Kraft purchasing the team
2) RK hiring Parcells as coach
3) RK hiring Belichick as coach
4) BB drafting Brady and elevating him to starter

All 4 steps are worthy of HOF recognition, despite the bad taste left as Parcells exited stage right.

I listed them chronologically, but it is also in order of increasing importance.

Parcells did not throw the SB.

Anybody watching the game again will see that unless they are blind.

Parcells did not throw 4 INTs and get sacked 5 times holding the ball like a statue. Bledsoe was erratic and played like dog 5hit missing open WRs. Curtis Martin never showed up for a big game in his life 13 carries for 43 yards. Otis Smith got torched. Adam V kicked a line drive to Howard on his KO return. Who the hell told him to do that? Parcells? After NE just scored and was back in the game? Put the crack pipe away.

Bledsoe choked and thats why he never won 5hit.

Parcells belongs in the NEHOF. The 2001 NE SB Championship does not happen without him.

Joke of a coach who wouldn't have won **** without Belichick. Was on the phone to the Jets before our Super Bowl against Green Bay. Played Hasan Graham instead of Troy Brown.

Other than being fortunate enough to have the greatest coach of all time as his DC his only other claims to fame are being a douche to his quarterbacks and making a lot of acerbic comments in press conferences.
People who should never be in the Patriots HOF: Parcells, Moss, Revis.

I agree, but man looking back at his drafts reminds me what picking high can be like:

1993: Bledsoe, Chris Slade
1994: Willie McGinest
1995: Ty Law, Curtis Martin, Ted Johnson
1996: Lawyer Milloy, Tedy Bruschi, Terry Glenn
Are we giving Parcells credit for the drafts when his complaint was not being able to select the draftees?

Never mind Berry, what about Fairbanks. He did an amazing job. He left under difficult circumstances also but no where near as despicable as Parcells.

Parcells replaced the double team that was erasing Reggie White in the first half with Max Lane. That alone ought to have been fireable for any coach.

Weird coverage with safety on receivers and Favre took advantage for long TDs on 2 plays. That too.

Yeah why did Adam kick directly to Desmond Howard on a line drive? Why wasn’t he told not to?

Martin had only 11 carries. The team’s best weapon and that’s all he got. That’s not Martin’s fault. Arguably the team’s best or second best player and they decided to go bombs away with Bledsoe for some reason.

Parcells also kept Troy Brown on the sideline. Could have played imo. Also defended kicks and might have made a difference on the Howard return.

Just a terrible coaching job in that game which can happen when he has one foot already out the door.

Martins longest carry was for 4 yards. All the other 12 carries were ZERO gain, Negative yards or 2 yard Sony Michelle power runs.

Curtis Martin always disappeared in big games. With the Pats and the Jets.

Yeah, Bledsoes first INT was a floating duck that looked like the GB players was the intended target.

Thats on Parcells. He should have told Bledsoe dont throw INTs.

Like I said.

Watch the game again like I just did and watch Parcells. Not a man who wanted to lose.

That's where I am too. Parcells did good things here, but the way he left tarnishes his legacy as specifically a Patriots coach

Huh? His TD was 18 yards.

He got 11 carries. That’s like Brady throwing 15 times in a Super Bowl.

Tough to blame Bledsoe that much for sacks and ints when you have one of the greatest defensive ends this league has ever seen coming after him again and again through what might as well have been a hole in the OL.

All the more reason not to go bombs away on offense and grind them out on the ground. Parcells didn’t do that.

4 years as coach..... NEP HOF ?

32-32 record.......NEP HOF ?

Lost his defecto GM job after 2 years to Bobby Grier.......NEP HOF ?

Out of one side of his mouth he takes credit for NE signings but out of the other side he moans about not being able to shop for the groceries.... NEP HOF?

His apologists claim he deserves credit for creating NE’s foundation for later success.
“Later” happens to be defined as 5 years and two coaches later. RUFKM

His apologists argue NE should be grateful he brought BB to the franchise. Using this train of thought, I guess Kraft should enshrine Belichick’s agent as well.

Funny how BB, Parcells’ gift to NE, came with shackle bruises and a price tag of a 1st round pick.

Then there’s Fat Tuna’s traitorous Neville Chamberlain re-enactment during NE’s most significant week in more than a decade.
“Let’s celebrate the traitor who fu*%ed this franchise over” ..... NEP HOF?

I don’t get the loyalty to this guy. Fat Tuna was an opportunist extraordinaire who had a nice run with Bledsoe and then sniffed out a better paying gig with the biggest rival.

Personally, I give Bledsoe the majority of credit for righting the NE ship. Fat Tuna certainly added some gravitas but Drew’s arm lifted the franchise out of plodding mediocrity and into the era of aerial-assault offensive football.... a must see experience.
I will always refer to Gillette Stadium as The House That Drew Built

This. Beautifully said. Thank you.
