DRAFT Pick 37, Patriots Select Safety Kyle Dugger (Division2)

What's with all the negativity? He was a projected 2nd rounder - we have TWO aging safeties, its a position that requires a deep understanding of the defense so it may take a year or two to develop. I honestly can't understand why posters on here think they are better draft scouts than people that do this for a living?

I also don't understand the "oh no, another 2nd round DB!!" mentality. So just because BB had a few misses at DB he should just never draft one again?

Everything you described is just basic human nature **** dude. Being worried about drafting a D2 safety in the second round is like Colts fans being worried about going into Foxboro in the playoffs. Sure every year is different but the history there makes you worried **** will be the same.

Idk if the guy sucks or will suck. But forgive me for not being too overjoyed about the pick considering our record throughout the last 20 years with second round DBs

There's really no precedent for how Dugger will pan out though. Just because he shares a position and draft round with Tavon Wilson and Jordan Richards doesn't mean anything. Both of the latter players were "high character, high effort, low athleticism" guys, which could not be further from what Dugger is (except for the high character).

Just call it what it is: superstition.

Troy Brown and Randy Moss came from the same MarshallU that Dugger is from. Just saying.

1. We could have had a first rounder including the clear best safety in the draft.

2. As much we have two older safeties, they are quality players and we have much more needy position groups we didn’t address.

3. We historically don’t do well on 2nd round defensive back projections

To be fair, Cyrus Jones may have been the best punt returner of all time... but we'd never know because he dropped every one of them before he could return it.

Yes it is. First rule of thumb when drafting small school players is they better dominate the competition at that level like Khalil Mack. Best player in conference, bar none, man amongst boys. Check.

KD pretty much did just that in Div2 and he also mixed in very well at the senior bowl which says a lot about the kid vs the best competition in the country.

I’m not sure how he is going to turn out, but he seems to find a way of making people wrong about him at every level.

It would be better if he didn't draft one who spent 6 years at the level of high-end high school football.
