Can't wait!

Brady is in the late afternoon of his career. - Me on July 5, 2013. Woof.

To be fair, at that point there were signs that might be true.

In fact, the KC debacle put an example of that on full display. By that point, defenses could play knowing that once Brady was passing, there was basically no chance of him running. They left him room to pick up first downs with his feet, and he wouldn't.

I can't imagine him getting more than Jameis. Jameis threw for a lot of yards (and pick 6s) which was still better than being benched mid season for the worst team in football.

I could see the Pats signing Cam and Dalton then proceeding to send an email to the agents of Stiddy Hoyer Ginger Cam and the two UDFA's saying "Welcome to the Thunderdome b*tch!"

On second thought that would sound better with a cameo from Rick Sanchez.
Mariota got 7m to sit. Winston is dirt cheap.

I can't see Cam coming here in any dream world.

Since when ever did any team worry about Brady picking up first downs by running? Defenses never changed up schemes because they were worried about that.

Chatham is just getting himself warmed up to praise the move on Twitter... right before he pens a letter to BB to ask him for a vacuum-sealed bag of his farts to inhale.
LMAO. Exactly what I thought when reading it.

I’d be okay with bringing him in on a one-year prove it deal. Maybe structure it as a four year deal that the team can walk away from at any time without taking a hit. “Suggest” to Hoyer that he retire so the team can hire him as a coach to work with Dalton and the other new QBs and be ready to unreturned if Dalton can’t cut the mustard.

So, our week 1 quarterback will be:

a.) Jarrett Stidham - Would still need to beat out Hoyer and possibly Dalton.

b.) Brian Hoyer - Would still need to beat out Stidham and possibly Dalton.

c.) Andy Dalton - Was earning 17M vs. the Bengals cap. I think the Pats could maybe do something like 15M if we want him to win the job. If we want him to compete here, he will have to take less, IMO.

d.) Cam Newton - We would only bring him in to start, IMO. And he would cost at least 18M a year, IMO.

My odds: 65% Stidham, 20% Hoyer, 10% Newton, and 5% Dalton.

I don't get this. He's unsigned in May and the Patriots offer him one of the few places where he could legitimately start. I do think he'd probably have been signed already if not for the pandemic, since teams can't clear him, but these guys have basically zero leverage. There are only a handful of teams that would possibly be in the market for a starting-caliber quarterback (New England, Jacksonville, maybe the Chargers but they drafted Herbert and have Taylor). In any case Dalton and Cam are probably 1 year only contracts.

Question for you, Mr Primetime, is who would be the starter chosen in a head to head QB competition between Hoyer and Dalton?

My bet would be on Dalton, albeit not by any great margin but my overall impression is that he’d be the stronger performer by a bit.

I’d also be bringing him in partly to see how Stidham responds. If he is going to be our QBotF he’ll respond to the challenge and rise to the occasion. If his ego is so fragile that it affects his confidence he’s too much of a snowflake to be a winning NFL starter. But if he wins the starting job over Dalton it would be more of a boost than winning it, or having it handed to him, over Hoyer. Hoyer is a known quantity, he’s been in the Pats’ locker room as a backup. Dalton comes in with more extensive experience and better credentials as an NFL starter and playoff QB than Hoyer.

I mean, if I'm signing a quarterback with the anticipation they'll start next year, give me Cam over Dalton every single time. If I'm not, I don't see what Dalton gives you over Hoyer, both are pocket passing quarterbacks who add no extra dimensions to an offense and are perfectly capable of being below-average starters that any team will be trying to replace. I think Dalton and Hoyer could both carry the team, give Belichick and the defense, to a divisional title or wild card spot, but I think they'll have very little chance against better teams, which has basically been the Dalton/Hoyer experience over their careers.

I think that this is the reality. Dalton doesn't need a minimal contract from the patriots to backup Belichick's future starters. Dalton should have other choices. The OPEN question is whether Belichick wants him, Cam, or whether he wants to consider to consider Stidham his starter with no real backup or competition.
What are those other choices that would give Dalton the chance to compete for a starting job?

I was looking at some funny memes of Andy Dalton and these two cracked me up.
