What to expect in the Post-Brady era.

I see a clear change in we won’t play backup QBs or historically bad QBs in the first half of the season like last year.

Seriously our first 8 games Big Ben, Rosen, L. Falk, J. Allen, C. McCoy, D. Jones (without Saqon and one of his early starts), Darnold, and Mayfield. That’s one good QB I’m Ben, a mediocre QB in Allen/Baker, than 4 laughable QBs.

Explains the 78 passer rating after October when the Patriots started playing good teams. Been a while since the Patriots have had sustained sub par QB play like that.

I expect:

  1. The board will be obsessed with how Brady and Gronk are doing in Tampa Bay.
  2. This draft (like the last 6) will be heavily scrutinized, especially the new fan favorite 2nd round DB if he doesn't make an early impact when they ignored more glaring needs.
  3. Not drafting a WR within the first 3 rounds when this group was the worst in the NFL at gaining separation will be be brought up.
  4. Not drafting a DT within the first 3 rounds when they couldn't stop the run will be revisited.
  5. N'Keal Harry will be put under a massive spotlight and be expected to become a big time player. Diapers need to come off. No more excuses. No more limited to jet sweeps.
  6. Sony Michel having a bounce back year or the chatter of bust will be coming.
  7. Offensive line to block better (Run and Pass).
  8. Edelman to be over targeted which will get him beat up by seasons end.
  9. Teaching Stidum to do the Slater bomb once a game. And he must overthrow him to do it right.
  10. BB vs Tom will be discussed weekly.

1. I can't wait to see Brady/Gronk II. I'll be pulling for them to succeed, though I didn't like the way Gronk delayed his decision to "retire."
2, 3 & 4. The Pats can still address their needs.
5. Harry needs to be cut some slack. He has serious potential.
6. Michel has been taking crap since he was drafted.
7. The OLine couldn't be as bad.
8. I'm sad to say that I don't think Jules has much left in the tank.
9. We always used to talk about the tough shoes to be filled by TB's replacement. Now we're there.
10. Concerning the Brady vs BB battle, I like the way Brady put it when he said that neither could perform the other's job. That covers it perfectly.

its a win win for the media. BB wins, brady was 43 .Brady wins , BB sucks.

Again, Brady got to choose a destination with 2 elite wrs, brings back Gronk, teams gets 13th or 14th pick, defense is much better than record indicates.

Amazingly Bill has had rebuilds quietly over the last 20 years and yes Brady was able to deflect the shortcoming that comes with those.

Its just not a level evaluation/comparison but of course the media will run with it and will fail to point out that this team is in full rebuild mode for the first time in a long while.

I think the problem we have this upcoming season is a tougher than normal schedule. Not only do we have an improved division, but also face the 3 best teams in the league vs 49ers, vs Ravens, and @ KC, and some other tough outs @Sea, @Rams, @ Texans.

The key will be if we can go 4-2 vs AFC East: split Mia & Buf, sweep Jets. I think we'll beat the Broncos, Raiders & Cardinals at home, but lose to the Ravens & 49ers at home. We'll lose @ KC, @ Seattle, and @ Houston, but win @ LA Chargers and @ LA Rams. So that's 9-7, +/- one game, so our range is 8-8 to 10-6. We're a borderline playoff team at this point.

Longer range, I think we'll be back atop the division in 2021.

9-7 and 4-2 in the division sounds realistic to me. Depends on how the schedule plays out too. The Pats are slow starters as we know. If we play the tougher teams in November and December that would be better than early in the season. Also some teams like the Ravens could take a step back this year. Hopefully whoever it is at QB is at least serviceable.

You need Jesus. Or Allah. Or a shaman. Or a therapist. You go to bed and wake up thinking about Brady. Can you write a single post without his name or 78 in it? Your insistence you only care about the Pats when you’re the only one clearly obsessing about the player who left is hypocritical at best.

lol.

It's ok Mrs. Brady I'm still a fan of your son. I'm just a bigger fan of the Patriots. :)

The guy has to hit on his draft picks. Nobody said anything because brady and the Ws hid those draft picks.

If they go 9-7 stidham better show quality play as a QB. Seems like bill’s putting all his confidence and eggs in the basket for him.

if the Pats go 9-7, that is progress in terms of Stihams development.

Lies. I’m also probably 30 years younger than you.

78. Brady. 78. Brady. 78. Brady. 78. Brady.

Get it tattooed so when your dementia creeps in, you can still look back and at least try to remember even as it’s all fading away :(

lol.

How am I lying? Not my fault you're triggered by posts that point out the fact he sucked last season.

No reason other than wishful thinking to believe Tompa Tommy would be much better if he stayed with the team. Also he has to stop the "Tompa" nonsense, it is kinda embarrassing.

Stidham or whoever is QB doesn't have to be great just serviceable. The defense and running game should be good enough to carry the team to 9-7 imo.

Will also be nice to see an offense that has a vertical passing element instead of 5 yard passes.

So that’s what you are hoping? That stidham is a serviceable QB? Asked the Vikings what serviceable QB play has gotten them. I don’t want the pats to have a guy that’s gonna be serviceable. Either you’re a franchise QB or not.

I expect about 8-8 this year, if they even have a season. First, the schedule is MUCH harder than it was in 2019. Second, Stidham isn't Tom Brady, even a diminished Tom Brady. Third, they're getting younger and faster, but also more inexperienced.

But I'd consider 8-8 a successful season, especially if we see real development from Stidham and the young guys, because that means the following years should be much improved.

But the days of winning 12 games a year and dominating the division year in and year out, making virtually every AFCCG are obviously over, never to return. That was a once-in-a-lifetime run. Now we are like everyone else, hoping to be competitive for the division, hoping to win it every few years, hoping to make it to the AFCCG once in a while, and maybe even winning a Super Bowl from time to time. That's about the best we can expect moving forward. The Pats' run from 2001-2019 is never ever happening again for the Patriots or any other franchise.

I don't mean serviceable long term just in 2020. He doesn't need to be great yet. The defense is still very good and I'd say it has more upside than the defense last year. I think the running game will be miles better than it was in 2019. I want to see what Stidham does under pressure, etc. We'll hopefully be closer to an answer on him after next season.

Get the tattoo. Do it, do it, do it. I don’t know why you’re stagnating - there’s nothing more in the world you love/hate than this man. You were up in the middle of the damn night with successive posts about him. Try getting laid instead.

So triggered. Lol. Even funnier that you think I hate Tom err I mean Tompa Tommy.

Hopefully Marshall Newhouse isnt back next year
Fair opinion to haven but he was good at RT, totally changed my opinion on him. Putting him at LT was on the coaches. Way to put the closest thing to a turn style I can even remember seeing on the Pats (lucky Brady). But the guy at least tried, which I think is evident by how well he did after moving to RT.

This should be asked to people assuming Stidham will be good or more laughable better than Allen who already has playoff experience
Nice deflection.

The post Brady era Patriots are going to look like old school, foundational. Belichickian football. 2001 is a good comp (minus the miraculous playoff run, of course).

I can't fault the philosophy. We have learned from 2017, 2015, 2012, 2011 and 2007 that teams can win Super Bowls with mediocre or even below-average starting QBs. A best in the league defensive secondary, with a solid front 7, sound special teams and function run/short pass game can win. It's not the same odds as having a GOAT behind center, but these teams take home more trophies than their "record O, terrible D" conterparts (as we learned from 2007 - 2011).

Landing a franchise QB is a crapshoot no matter where you pick in the draft. Nobody predicted that Russell Wilson would be the most successful QB of the class of 2012, or that Nick Foles would win a Super Bowl as a backup, or that Andrew Luck would flame out after 7 years and 4 playoff appearances. Tanking is a lottery ticket.
