Obi, we hardly knew ye:

I don't recall Van Noy being much of a project. He slid into his role pretty instantly.

Yeah, not entirely the same I suppose. It wasn't instant, but it was faster than Ninko (who really started on ST) and obviously Van Noy was a higher draft pick originally, just didn't thrive in Detroit (Surprise!). I guess it was more a comparison of a flyer taken on a physically gifted but thus far disappointing player, letting them start small, then grow into a bigger role year 2 and beyond.

I was hopeful that Obi would be the kind of multi-year project at S that players like Ninkovich and Van Noy were at LB, but not to be I suppose.

You never know. He could be back.

He was old in the tooth.

this one makes me sad. I guess like a lot of you, I fell in love with the measurables. But this failure only goes to show how important the speed in which a player processes what he sees is more important than his 40 or 3-cone times.

Brady is the archetype example of this. His mind was always his best asset. First with his single minded drive, and secondly how well he processed what he saw in those first 2 seconds. I have no doubt that Stidham has similar physical assets to Brady. So did a lot of QB's who have come and gone from league. The thing we will need to find out about this kid is DOES he have the same kind of maniacal drive to get better as Brady, and will he have a similar ability to process the complex data in seconds that is needed for a QB to be successful.

NO one knows the answers to these questions at this point....and quite frankly, I doubt if we will really know the answer to these questions this time next year.

But for Obi. This was a smart and super athletic kid, who simply didn't process what he saw as fast as he needed to be in a defensive backfield as good as the Pats. I won't be surprised if he gets another shot with a team who falls in love with the all mighty measurables.

If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

I know the spelling is off, but seems to me he turned out less Jedi and more...

He was still on the team?

He was a ST guy and perhaps not even that special at that. He was horribly exposed in coverage as a Raider. They certainly don’t miss him.

I heard he's good at forcing fumbles.
