The 2020 Offense

Last year we couldn't move the ball when we had to.. at all. Time to get back to basics, yes that means more sacks/INTs with a young QB, but it should lead to confidence building for all of the youth on O when they start to put together scoring drives.

I think Brady last year was so determined to keep doing it his way, that the young guys just couldn't get with the programme. He forgets he had 20 years to reach his Jedi level of playbook mastery. These kids were probably busting it to get on the same page for all we know.

It's an age/experience gap thing in some ways. When he was the young QB his receivers were experienced and would have given him some slack. When he was in his prime, he had a nice mix of veteran and youth. Towards the end I think his patience ran out (berating WRs all the time) and he just didn't want to go through growing pains anymore, which I can also understand.

This year they will all be starting at the beginning. The playbook will be simplified to allow the youth to grasp it with competence and the result should be that we can actually move the football. If there's something we suck at one year, BB usually fixes it the following year.

This kid folds under pass rush pressure and in the 4th quarter or 2 minute drill in college and in HS
Somewhat agree... with the caveat that as a Junior with a more talented team, there were times when he handed blitzes/pressure really well.

Think it's underestimated the extent to which merely going from a putrid schedule to this year's probable gauntlet is going to change things even if they're no worse as a team than they were last season.
Isn’t that somewhat just perception?

Last year we faced the face 6 games. Not a lot has changed

last year we faced
Pitt Baltimore Cleve Cincy (which looked very tough)
This year
Kc deb lv sd
Certainly doesn’t look tougher

last year 1st vs 1st
Kc Houston
This year
Kc Houston.

Only difference really is crossover.
Sf and Seattle instead of Philly and Dallas
at this time last year it looked as tough

rams and cards vs giants and skins
Similar.

I don't think we know yet.

Gut tells me it'll start slow but as the season goes on and everyone improves with experience they'll do pretty well.

Compared to the last 9 games of last year there is only one direction to go

Brady is no longer there. There is definitely more than one direction to go.

If you're going to look at the 2019 Patriots offense you need to look at the last 8 games. The last eight games the offense was terrible

Top 5 defense? Losing Van Noy, Collins and Shelton and replacing them with what?

They got all 3 of those guys as cast-offs who disappointed with other teams. I'm confident that Bill can find similar value from guys he drafted and internal improvements from guys already on the team.

The system and playing in front of an elite secondary aided their production.

Also, I thought that those guys performed much worse in the second half of the year than they did to start the year

I think you're right that it's getting undersold. This isn't N.E. facing the NFCE and AFCN. This is getting both the AFCW and NFCW, and adding the Ravens and Texans on top of that.

On the road twice to L.A.
On the road to Seattle
On the road to Houston
On the road to K.C.

It's probably a good thing that the K.C. game is on the road, because it gives the team a change to play a lesser team at home. Normally we'd want it the other way around, but I don't think anyone's crazy enough to expect that the Patriots would beat the Chiefs at home this year (as the teams currently stand). Imagine the outlook if the Chiefs were in N.E. and the Broncos were in Denver.

Carried the team to the title in 18 so he must be doing something right.
You could have put BenJarvus Green-Ellis behind that line and he might have done the same thing.

Harry and the rookie te’s are they key. We need a legit #2 behind Edelman and multiple te. This creates the domino effect pushing sanu to #3 where hes more effective. Being able to run 2 te sets would help alot.

OL is key. They will be the ones to jump start the running game that was MIA last season. They will also hopefully keep a clean pocket for Stidham because he is desperately going to need it.

But yeah TE’s are key for blocking and hopefully be a presence in the passing game to take pressure off of James White.

Man I sure hope not. That was the least fun I've had watching the Pats offense since I've been a fan. (started following the team when Bledsoe got drafted, granted I don't remember my early years as a fan as well as the recent years).

I believe the line will be better and I don't know how the TE could be worse.

I'm not sure how being more conservative on offense helps a unit that had trouble moving the ball last year.

The OL was decimated and we lost our all pro FB.

I don't know how the TE could be worse.

Watson at least knew the game, could run his routes properly, and could get open maybe a couple times a came.
LaCosse is LaCosse.

The Patriots are relying on LaCosse getting better at age 28 and/or untested rookies taken as mediocrities even for a bad TE draft. It's possible that such is a higher point than can be achieved this season.

BB didn't even try to improve the offense. This is exactly why I wanted Brady to walk.

BB still drafts as if his security blanket TB will bail him out. Good luck to whoever plays QB.

They performed worse because the offense couldn't move the ball in the 2nd half of the season.

At this point in his career Edelman isn't a number 1 (whatever that is), and he shouldn't be asked to be. He's simply the only guy in the WR group that can beat man coverage.

It's not all about the QB. How many of our SB wins were due to the offense? Not a lot. And both Giants' losses the defense did well enough. It's a team game.

More often than not, their defense has collapsed in every Super Bowl appearance. It always will come down to the offense having to make a play eventually.

See how it went for the 9ers in last years Super Bowl.

He grabbed a couple TEs and added some depth to the interior OL. Maybe he’s confident that Harry with a full camp will be the player BB envisioned when he drafted him.
