I expect a lot of action this week as

1) teams assess their needs after the draft, and make some cuts.

2) free agents better know which teams are in the hunt for players at their position.

3) free agent signings don't count against the 2021 compensatory pick calculations.
======
For example, Winston just agreed to a contract.

There should be quite a few WR's available

Perhaps.

However, I would expect teams to keep at least 8 wide receivers on their 90 man rosters.

I expect Thuney to either sign soon or be traded for 2021 now that the team trading for him has more time for a physical exam to happen. Hoping he re-signs.

The Newton betting odds are interesting. BB has had high praise for him in the past and a lot of QB needy teams filled their openings.

There definitely should be a lot more excitement soon.

My personal hopes for the next week include

1) the acquisition of Jeffries (after restructuring his 2020 cap hit would be $6M)

2) the acquisition of a transition QB: Newton, Rosen or Dalton (the cap hit might $6M-$8M, consider McCourty's contract)

3) re-sign Newhouse to COMPETE for the position of #4 OT

4) re-sign Ferentz to be our emergency insurance at backup center, hoping to upgrade later

5) trading Thuney if we can't negotiate a long-term contract (the time is now)

I am against all 5.

I must be on the right track.
I guess you shouldn’t post ideas if you are going to get your panties in a bunch when people disagree.

FIFY

although I don’t strongly disagree with #5, to me it depends on what the trade offer would be. To me it would have to be a very good one, otherwise another year of Thuney plus a comp pick seems likely to be preferable.

And I didn’t really think that response by mgteich seemed like it showed wadded panties, certainly hope not. It’s all good spirited, I at least am just responding to a post that fell short of his usual quality...

Mentioning Ferentz deserves getting banned.

I think he's taking your disagreement as a good sign; I also think most posters on the board would.

:)
The reality is that we should have a backup center. Ferentz did OK as a backup center (and terrible as a guard). Of course, we should spend money and sign a better backup center.

Honestly this is going to sound crazy coming from me but I like what we did at receiver with the UDFA let them learn and Compete and develop under a QB who won’t turn a blind eye to them when they make a few errors.
Let’s stand Pat at receiver unless a top tier guy is coming in.

Where exactly do you see the fit in the McDaniels offense for an expensive jump ball receiver ?

Even if you cut him after this year to avoid the 12M hit for 2021 you will still end up paying 9M for this year, whether that is in one installment or spread over 2 years. And that in addition to whatever compensation the Eagles would ask for.

I just don't see the fit given the contract.

fair enough

I believe that Belichick will bring in a #1/#2 receiver. Such a receiver would make all the rest of the receivers better. I'm fine if Jeffries isn't the man.

Given the assumption that we won't drastically change the offense what does it mean to be a #1 receiver on our team ?

Are we looking for someone who will post #1 numbers in terms of targets and impact on the field ? Because the model for that would be someone like Edelman/Dola who has the quickness to work the inside.

Or are we talking someone who the opponent shifts their coverage to like it was Cooks. Who ended up being a decoy on around 60% of plays to create space.

Care to elaborate on some of those ?
Newhouse and ferentz stink.
Jeffery is overrated and overpriced.
None of those QBs are any good.
Thuney is one of our best players.
