After all these years watching Belichick it seems like many haven’t learned anything.

Our most likely starting QB is going to be Brian Hoyer. We need to get behind this guy. Stop dogging him and start supporting him.

No disrespect to Stidham but he has a lot of catching up to do to beat out the veteran. Hoyer has superior knowledge and command of our offense and I believe he will do very well in “game manager” role (think 2001 except Hoyer has way more experience than Brady did at that time).

Hoyer’s game has been modeled after Brady’s since he came into league. Like Brady he will know where to go with ball and will get it out quickly. He will play the position the way he has been taught in our system. The same way Brady was taught. Many if not most of Brady’s throws came within the design of the system. Brady was never a big improv guy. I expect to see the same from Hoyer...ie...very few mistakes.

I’m not ruling out Stidham but he won’t be given position. He’s going to have to earn it. He only has one year in our system and has quite a bit of catching up to do.

If Stidham doesn’t win job this year, it doesn’t mean he’s a bust. He could very well be ready next year or the year after. Whenever he is able to play the position the way Belichick wants the position to be played.

I’m not predicting a SB but I do expect us to be competitive with Hoyer. A 10+ win season and playoff berth is within our reach. Chiefs and Ravens are the clear favorites but we’ll be right there in the group chasing those teams. We’re going to utilize ball control offense. Smashmouth football, short passing game , and Defense will determine how far we can go.

Belichick will play the guy who gives us the best chance to win. Thats the way it is.

Think of Rich Gannon. He was a career journeyman/backup QB who became league MVP late in career. The same kind of late career success is possible for Hoyer in our system and would further enhance the legacy of Belichick.

I agree that what you propose is possible. I think the fact that the virus is cutting into prep time might add to your case.

By all accounts, the team is very high on Stidham. There were reports last season that some players noticed he had what it takes to be a starting QB.

I am open to your theory and have considered it as a more likely outcome than some in this board. I’m still betting Stidham starts if asked to make a prediction.

Yes, Hoyer will most likely be the starter due to experience, prep time or lack thereof etc...However, I’m not on team Hoyer. He sucks. Of course he knows the system; he better! He’s been here half of his career, but he’s by NO means Rich Gannon; he’ll never sniff an MVP. Not dogging him; just saying what we already know. I’ll root for him, but ultimately I’m on team Stud-arm.

I am on team Stidham. I have actually seen Hoyer play in a playoff game.....let's just say that it wasn't pretty. I am happy we have Hoyer and I absolutely agree that Stidham has to earn the job period...full stop.Last year's competition was close, IMO....but the Pats chose the kid due to potential/economics. The Pats would have brought back Hoyer if he didn't sign with Indy, IMO.

To me...Stidham = Glory or Crash-And-Burn. Hoyer = 10-6 record maybe...and a divisional exit at best...then he'll be 35 years old...dunno...

Hoyer could make us a treadmill team which is the last thing we want. Stidham could prove to be the future or he could be trash who leads us to 5-11 and a high draft pick. Give me Stiddy.

Not a bad philosophy.....if we're looking to assure we get Lawrence next year in the draft

Hoyer as 2020 MVP?

Whoever ends up being the starting QB will be because he won that job in camp, not because of any other factors.

Pedigree amounts to **** for BB. All he cares about is how well you perform right now.

Whoever gets us closer to Lawrence should be the choice unless Stid is really good.

We won’t be in a position to draft Lawrence at 1.

If Hoyer is like Brady then its tough to see much of an improvement on offense over last year with the talent that’s there. With Stidham its way more upside and probably a new system.

Gannon also had HOFers Brown and Rice. Also a tough running game with Garner and Crockett.

So you really want to go 4-12 next season? That's what Hoyer is going to give you. He's good for running the scout team, but anything imagined after that is a pipe dream.

He's 34 years old, hasn't had a winning record since 2015... And he topped out at 7-6.... In 2014.

This is setting the bar really low.....Hoyer in the field gives us nothing

Bill is also chasing Shula. After Shula’s clownish comments about him Bill is extra motivated to win and he isn’t throwing a season in the trash. He’ll be going for it this year so forget Lawrence.

Hoyer shatters Stidhams confidence and you get a musical chairs QB position when Hoyer plays bad youre switching back and forth between Stidham and Hoyer. See the Browns mess at QB a few years ago.

Stidham is supposed to be the future and Hoyer is in his golden years. The QB is the identity of the offense and arguably the whole team.He is your leader. There must be a clear direction and a your guy, win or lose through thick or thin. If Stidham isnt tested there is no way to know whether QB is a 2021 need.

Hoyer is more a mentor and sounding board for Stidham.

Much of the offense’s struggles were due to injuries on the oline. They didn’t open up holes in the running game or give Brady enough time in the passing game.

Our oline has historically been a team strength and will need to be once again for us to have any success this year, regardless of who the QB is.

At WR, both Harry and Jacobs should be better now that they have a year under their belts. I’m hopeful that Asiasi emerges as the best TE in the draft and Keene is utilized in Hback role and becomes a fan favorite. I think Josh is going to have a lot of fun employing sets with both of them on the field at the same time. We’ve got a plethora of good running backs and will try to run the ball down opposing teams throats mixing in some timely playaction. Its going to be a fun team to root for.

As far as those wishing to tank, we’re the Patriots, not the Colts. You should be ashamed of yourselves. The Belichick way is to rebuild on the fly. Whether is Hoyer or Stidham (who i like btw), this team is going to the playoffs.

Hoyer, the system specialist, will probably play better without fans than Stidham, the novice.
